View Full Version : ACC levy increase compromise?

I read that submissions for the ACC Levy increase closed a few days ago:
http://home.nzcity.co.nz/news/article.aspx?id=107174&fm=newsmain,narts
Anyone from here make a submission?
So when we will hear if the Levy increase is going to go ahead or not? And shouldn't all these "biker protests" wait until they find out whether the Levy increase is actually going ahead or not?
Anyway, it doesn't look like ACC minister Nick Smith is backing down so how about we email Nick Smith and ask for a compromise? What about delaying the Levy increase for 1 year so we can save up some cash for it?
You can email Nick Smith here:

Hey frogman3 - loads of threads on this around.
Take a look through the ACC section and add your post to one of the more recent ones.
BTW: Welcome to KB :)

How many NZ KB members are ther VS motorcycle owners/ riders?
Are only KBers that make a difference?

This has been about the only topic of conflab on here for some months now. Even Hone Harawiras Mutherf**king thread got hijacked in favour of ACC.
Most of us have made submissions. If ACC and National go ahead there will be Labour Prime Minister next term.
480,000 New Zealanders hold a motorcycle licence - 75% of them are over 40 years of age. I'll bet most of them used to vote National....they'll be Labour voters now.

"save up for it"?
When the levy goes up, it'll be the same the year after that. (Or go higher again).
And the year after that.
And the year after that.
etc.
(Apparently will go down again when they "fill up" the residual fund [the "catch-up" for the years prior to 1999 before they started the "fully funded" model {just like the "big boy" insurance companies}.]).
So is the OP planning to "save up" 5 or 10 years worth of the new fee, over the next year?

Whadda bunch of meanies! Leave the poor guy alone. You were all n00bs once upon a time....
Do you really think there is a spy amongst us??? :shit:
Hey, stopped for a lovely coffee at Maraetai tonight and spent the evening talking with a very nice chap who has impeccable taste in bikes (identical to mine, except his is the red one) who hadn't heard much about the ACC leeches. We had a great yak!!

Don't let the truth stand in the way of a good statistical argument against the introduction of the levies!

It's drier than Auckland and warmer than Glasgow. And I can actually afford my house (unlike the one I used to live in in Auckland which sucked every penny of disposable income from my wallet!)

ACC compromises have dominated KB since Nicky Smith opened her mouth about it. Good on ya though. I notice how people say 'well when it goes up i'll have to save up etc etc' .. if you talk like that you have already lost becasue ACC knows you say this and knows you have already given up. Tell em its not going up

sorry guys. i didn't read all the threads. i'm new here. by nice :)
anyway, i was just trying to help you guys out. Some of you here may have made submissions but did you actually Email Nick Smith? I'm sure if you Email Nick Smith you could say you WON'T vote for him or National in the next election if the ACC levy increase goes ahead and I don't think you can say that in the submission.

It think it's fair to say that ALL pollies have been bombarded with emails etc. But they are a funny lot...they have PAs to field all that sort of thing, so many/most MPs won't even see the outraged emails. Labour eventually seemed to get the idea that there were some upset bikers about the place, and have come out in favour of us. It's a start...

You'll get used to the abuse, I'm told I have a black belt in that sort of shite.
Welcome aboard anyway, don't be shy to fire the shite back.
We've all been firing submissions at Nick Smith, ACC and any/all politicians we can think of. It's possible they're getting the message, you never know.
Nick Smith is my MP and the first response I got was from his PA or somone just as vacuous but the fuckin' wanker didn't even reply to my second email.
Ya have to try though, voice your opinion etc, kb is a great place to do that. It doesn't mean shit but go hard!
PS: If you ever trade posts with Patrick, tell him he's a homo.

Haha you guys are protesting too soon. The government and public and media will probably forget about you guys after your Parliament protest because "ACC says it is consulting over the levys and they will be finalised in the next few months.":

If the Parliament protest does go ahead, I'm guessing there will be lots of injuries like this:

the Nickster has said he won't make a decision till early next year.
Protest rides are just that, and may sway his final decision somewhat, or not.
