We all see some crazy stuff on the roads, mainly with cagers...but this beats the biscuit. On the Harbour Bridge this morning. Bike in the right lane of the clippons. He was over to the right being tailed by an old Beetle...why did the driver think it was a good idea to stay in the lane but squeeze between the bike and the lane line...beats me...he was only about a foot away from the bike when he passed...Answers on a postcard please

More like, why did the rider think it was safer to ride hard to one side of the lane allowing this to happen.

Take charge of your own space.

+1. Ultimately it doesn't matter who was in the wrong - its your primary responsibility to preserve your own safety.

Because we undertake cars whilst lane-splitting, so why shouldn't they undertake us?

Hell cars even pull across for us sometimes to let us undertake them, maybe the driver thought the rider was doing the same!

Yesterday I had some prick (car) try to overtake me on a blind corner in a 50 zone !!!! the fucking moron ! I didn't flinch, I kept my line and he had to pull back in behind me. At the next set of lights I was turning right and he was going straight through. He pulls up next to me and leans out the window and says. "you should be riding a bicycle if you want to cruise" ..... ! WTF ! Apparently doing the speed limit is too slow for some people.

That's too much arrogance for my liking.

The roads are becoming like a war zone.

The cops are sitting at the end of overtaking lanes catching people reducing from overtaking speed and kidding the public that they are trying to make the roads safer.

I tell ya what mate, I was livid !!!!! However, since I started riding a bike I have learnt to expect that this kind of thing is going to happen from time to time and saw him coming a mile away. I guess the trick is to remain calm and stay focused on your own safety/survival. goddamn it I wanted to kick his mirror off though.

On transferring to 2 wheels I've found that drivers of cars often don't seem to exhibit the same level of awareness that we do.
I think it's because they feel bullet-proof in their cage and that they're usually focussed on the end of the trip not the trip itself.
Being fresh back to bikes, I appreciate the reminders in this thread about owning our space and keepng calm - good reminders for newbies.

Yes Dazz, that's the right attitude and level of expectation.

I used to be an asshole cager before I became an asshole biker. :killingme

Seriously, I used to be one of these people who would push through little gaps and take risks in cars. Now in cars I consider my position to be hopeless - so I give up and sit back and take the "park bench" approach. Nothing can be done about the situation - certainly nothing compared to bikes.

Hrm, some days I even sit back on my bike. Getting old and tired?

Nothing wrong with that,

ultimatley if your not going far, is hitting the small gap and getting there a minute faster, worth the posibilty of hospital time?

On that note why do most people (including myself) get angry waiting 20 seconds at a round about?

Cool it. Sit back. It's not worth the heart attack. It's going to get someone killed if you keep doing it - probably you.

Lots of things in your life cannot be changed, and this is just another one of them, so learn sooner rather than later to let them go, or you will take your own life by your own hand.

Oh I'm not saying I take risky chances, I just wonder why people get frustrated waiting 20 seconds. Like I said in the post it wont make much difference and you'll probably end up catching up to them at the next set of lights anyway.

Sitting in traffic for 20 seconds is not a big thing worth getting stressed about. It's microscopic compared to what you are going to face. ;)
