This has just come through - looks like its official all 3500 of us are going to protest...
Hi,
A new alert is available for you to view on the Police website:
Location: Wellington
District: National Alerts
Police readying for Wellington motorcycle protest
Wellington Police along with organizers of a protest by motorcycle riders are working to keep disruption to a minimum on Tuesday 17 November.
Police are expecting the motorcyclists to travel in convoy from Porirua and Lower Hutt into Wellington, causing congestion on State Highways 1 and 2 late in the morning.
The impact of a large number of protesters has been carefully considered. Organisation aims to keep disruption in Wellington City during the protest as minimal as possible.
"Given that approximately 3,500 rider protesters are expected to converge on Wellington, it is hoped that the ride and peaceful protest will have as minimal impact as possible on the CBD," says District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Peter Baird.
"Through working with community partners including Wellington City Council and Westpac Stadium, parking has been secured at the Westpac Stadium on Aotea Quay for the motorcyclists," says Inspector Baird. "Providing parking at this location will keep congestion in city streets to a minimum for other members of the public."
The motorcyclists will join organised convoys from Porirua or Lower Hutt and will be escorted by Police patrol vehicles. They will exit the Wellington motorway onto Aotea Quay to Westpac Stadium car park and walk to the grounds of Parliament.
"The volume of protesters does have both disruption and safety risks that the organizers have been at pains to minimize, while still ensuring a maximum assembly," says Inspector Baird. "There will be a large number of motorcyclists riding closely in the convoys and there are risks involved. Those not confident to ride in an organised convoy should meet protesters at Westpac Stadium."
The traffic delays are expected from 11.30am to 1.30pm on State Highways 1 and 2 through to Aotea Quay.

I listened to the whole thing, well done that man.
Please, please, keep up the good work. You and Ixion are great ambassadors for motorcycling, I take my hat off to you both. Well spoken, calm and to the point.
It's a shame my connections with various magazines have waned to the degree that they have, as now would be a great time for me to apply my talents.
As has been stated, this is just the beginning and I will observe progress from afar, because if I were at the forefront it would be akin to Atilla The Hun wrecking a civilised garden party.
Good on ya.

Where did you get that story from "specialists at large traffic volume management"
They are usually cops fresh from the college who are yet to learn which way is up.

While the mass Checkpoints you see all during silly season are so staffed by new recruits... who do you think sits in the running patrol cars sitting by the exit points etc?
And who do you think runs them????
Experienced senior officers
Traffic and Alcohol Group
These guys run all the protests and parades through the city, Boobs opn Bikes , The Sevens, the works
Just coz a lot of rookies are used at breath checks dont mistake that for lack of ability to run a few tightly managed intersections

Sue has been on talkback since I was 25, back when I was a trade apprentice as a lad I had a boss who glued the radio knob on talkback....sorta put me off it a bit like......
Generally the Rock and Hauraki on my dial, and neither would even give us the grace of a 'traffic' plug
So much for supporting their biker listeners the pratt's
