Just saw this poll on a NZ website that I'm finding kind of entertaining. Here:
http://www.haveyoursay.co.nz/polls/view/20/which-do-you-think-are-worse-drivers-men-women-or-asians
Thought I would show it on KB cause it made me laugh. May as well run a similar one here.
edit: Should be noted that some of the best riders/drivers I know are asian. So this is a generalisation. Do not take it personally, just like don't really get hurt all that bad by Hone saying "white motherfuckers". I have never shagged a mother. There are notably some shockers amongst the asian driving public, just as there are in all demographics. I only put this poll up, because I was surprised by the brazenness of the website that I attached the link to.

I've never had this problem with Asians drivers that is referred to by New Zealanders.
I have had shedloads of problems with grey haired Falcon & Commodore drivers.
I have been T boned twice while going through a green light - once by a Maori woman and once by a Tongan man.
So where is the option for Pacific people and Falcon/Commodore drivers?

Well isnt it 80% of NZers think they are an "above average driver" i.e better than 50% of other NZers

IME: Some old people are very good and safe drivers.
IME: Some young kids are good and safe drivers; not many though and of the ones that are, they are usually female.
IME: I have not had any positive experiences of female Asian drivers of any age.
I suspect it could be realted to the fact that not many women have been able to drive in their previously native countries.
Someone please tell me that I am wrong?

Honest answer?
Old people are worse drivers (lack ability) but young people have poorer judgement/overestimate themselves/do stupid things for the sake of it. Both are equally dangerous imo.
I don't think ethnicity or gender actually has much to do with it :dodge:

No I don't think you are wrong. Some bits are true that some Asians don't respect much road laws. You see, the way I see it, generally Asians are from a much bigger and busier country. A city like Seoul is home for over "you do the maths" population where stress and crowdedness is uncomparable to NZ cities. You see how Auckland traffic is more "aggressive" than Christchurch?
The point I'm trying to say is, (some) Asians are preety agressive when driving. Because that's how they need to drive to survive in their country.
Also, im my experience (with my two eyes), many cause accidents around the roundabouts. Cause we don't have 'em in Korea.
One other thing. Many (I mean many) Asians don't indicate. I hate that...
Cause of Asian's causing car accidents are not because of their small eyes!! :msn-wink:

Sorry can't change it now... We should really run two polls.. One women vs men... But all men would just vote for women and vice versa. And we could do a racially charged one aswell. I did get rear ended on my motorbike stopping at traffic lights by a maori lady, and her and her daughter tried to convince me it was my fault and that I had stopped on a green. Had to call the cops on her arse. Haha.
Also, been hit on my bicycle on the footpath by an asian after I had nearly cleared the front of his car as he was coming up a completely non-vision restricting driveway at the top of Hobson St, was a wide open carpark. He didn't slow down at all. Just totally didn't see me even though I was only at walking pace, and had gone right past his car just about and his numberplate hit my rear wheel.
Also, had a European women come out of a one way street the wrong way turning right into oncoming traffic to sneak up the next one way street down on customs street (coming out of Fort, and turning up Emily Place) I was trying to go into fort, and she turned across my path while I was on my bicycle, if she hadn't been going up Emily but rather joining the traffic flow I would have just past to the left of her (her right side).
And the only people that have specifically tried to kill me on my bicycle have been men.
Had a Mitsubishi Evo 4 stolen by Islanders... same with my mates WRX wagon... stolen by Islanders, and I caught a "dark" dude (ethnicity unknown) who'd broken into my mates Nissan Silvia and was trying to wreck the ignition with a big screwdriver.
My brother's Toyota Supra was taken out by a Pacific Island truck driver turning right into Penrose road off Great South across the traffic. Photos here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/mccamish/Crash
Arguably my brother wasn't driving defensively like you learn to on a motorbike
And my grandad who is now dead also had an asian claiming "gleen light, gleen light" when he turned across traffic and caused a head on with my grandad who hit his head on the windscreen quite badly.
Although my other grandad determinedly and from what I could tell purposely crashed into a young guy who failed to give way to him with the old "if you are turning left, you have to give way to cars to your right turning right into the same street.
My older brother as a young guy wrote off 2 cars arguably neither were his fault, but I know I wouldn't have crashed in either situation. His problem I feel is his lack of attention when at the wheel always fluffing with the bloody stereo, he loves his "sounds" (wank wank).
My younger brother who is the unco one in the family has been involved in 2 car accidents in Melbourne this year, again arguably neither were his fault and again I know in the same situation I wouldn't have crashed.
And my dad who is nearing sixty, blind in one eye, and is a reformed alcoholic and pub fighter from 'nam, never crashes motorbikes or cars. Although he did when he was younger.
My mum never crashes but she scares me when I'm in the passenger seat, with her lack of awareness about vehicles behind her. And her attitude that if she's going the speedlimit then she's perfectly entitled to hog the fast lane, that just pisses me off. I told her it's an overtaking lane.
I've never crashed a car either, I don't see how people can, they don't just fall over if you get it a bit wrong like a motorcycle or a bicycle.
My gran who is nearing 80... sure she's not entirely awesome at the old spacial awareness thing, but she never crashes either. Once left the park brake off and it ran away down the street about 25 years ago.

I have grey hair and drive a Holden. Oh dear.
I used to live on Auckland's North Shore where Asians abound and their driving antics are nothing short of atrocious. My eldest daughter once had a homework assignment that included observing traffic at a roundabout. I sat with her for about an hour by the Sunnynook Road roundabout and THAT was an education!

I think middle-aged men (those generally in their 40s) are the worst, you know the ones who think it's their god given right to drive at 120 with the entire family in their XR8, and god help you if you try and overtake him on a passing lane while he's distracted yapping on his cell phone, this is usually his explanation for driving too fast... "I've been driving for 30 something years, never had an accident, it's all the other arseholes out there who can't drive that cause the problems" blah blah blah, it's pure luck and the fact that eveyone else gets out of your way cockhead.:bleh:

Woman from young to old and Asians and others, they hang onto the steering wheel with two hands with a death grip, really havn't a clue as to what makes a vehicle go around a corner, forget to indicate, they don't use their mirrors, hoon up to every corner at warp speed that includes roundabouts, well for that matter anything with a bend it and instead of slowing up a mite they either fly around the corner trying to use their body weight and hope like hell that works to make it around or they hit the picks big time..
Yep we all have our moments in vehicles even the best of drivers can at times lose the plot....Watch them all when on a bike, for that matter when driving anything..:msn-wink:

Don't seem to have an 'Asian' driving problem in the Naki but for the 'WTF are they doing' moments, it's nearly always an Old folk from the home of the bewildered.
I've got a lot of time for the senior citizens but some of the irrational/unpredictable / crazy stuff, I've seen them do beggars belief.
I would have to go for an old person from Inglewood, on a shopping day, as the most unpredictable and dangerous creature on our roads today . If all you can see is a hat driving, you know you've got trouble.

In Texas they drive quite badly too.
Our driver was busy looking at Facebook on her iphone, tailgating the car in front (on the highway), and sipping on an ice tea all at the same time.
When you travel to other countries, especially some parts of Asia, you just have to bite your tongue and "When in Rome" it...
I think NZ drivers on a whole are pretty awesome, and considerate.

With out a doubt, I am the worst!
No seriously males between 45-55 driving XR8's or SV8's wearing $500 sunglasses (or brand new litre bikes and brand new leathers) or elderly ladies with 3 other elderly ladies in the car driving shit box Daihatsu's.
Those are the kind of driverfs I have had either a near miss or a complete accident with.

Well me actually. I am the worst driver in NZ. Be warned if you see a dark green V8 landrover or a small dark green sports car you should throw youselves off the road. No honestly I drive like crap. I am also in my 40s and wear a hat while driving.

I read somewhere, that a study showed 18 y.o. Singaporean females topped the "holy shit run for your lives" type drivers......
Islanders in 4WDs are pretty scary, as well.

Men have worse drivers than women.....but on the flip-side they also have the better drivers than women.
Confused.
A category of something can have better and worst in comparison to another category.
Men have some shockers out there, and also some awesome male drivers out there. The day I see a lady out there killing Ken Block, destroying Sainz records or lapping Schumi....I will eat my words. But I doubt that - its all to do with bell curves ladies. Ours is just flatter - where yours has the better average.
In the poll I put old people - because they are the worst. Even Asians get worse as they get old. Its a fact of life - if we got better as we got older then people wouldn't die young.
People are like wine - some stuff is the primo stuff that stays on the shelf for a 100 years, some of us go off quickly in casks.
(hey I like that one. I must be bored at work)

I live in Tauranga, grew up and learnt to drive in Auckland.
In TGA - 1st :40+ Male Ford or Holden Drivers - they seem to be the worst. Even cops, yes they DO NOT look for bikes here (kindof good as they dont pull you over either). but its ok their cars are the quickest things on our roads so they can just pull out anywhere < yeh right.
2nd :30+ Women smoking, talking, applying makeup and interacting with their kids all at the same time in their 4wd's will cut into your lane, especially on roundabouts. <--- we have lots of them shame on you for smoking with kids.
30-40's Women in 4wd's also will get angry if you merge like a zip. <-- some real psychos here (also include 30-40's male moari's).
Asians pretty good just park in dumb places and crunch their cars on steep driveways.
I've only been here 8 years but If I do see any islanders I'll report on their driving.
Small trucks here have phenominal brakes, well I guess their drivers think they do because they'll sit on you arse while doin 110k's.
also assume that all indicators are broken/malfunctioning in TGA. Especially on police cars.
Auckland - well you're all pretty good I think, you guys have a bad rep because of the cramped roads and narrow lanes it freaks out of town people out. Also driving more agressive but I find you're more likely to get let into a spot/merge properly in aucks than tga. Alot more polite and patient than TGA arseholes.

I'd second that, although still maintaining Tauranga as worst as far as arrogance and self importance goes.
