Anyone involved in the Bikers' Big Breakfast?

I heard the reporter at the museum today ask Les about the Bikers' Big Breakfast this morning. I didn't go to it, but I did get a flyer on my bike.

It looks like they are trying to make a point about how much parking would be taken up if bikers switched to cars as a result of the proposed and to-be-defeated ACC levy hike. I've scanned the flyer to a PDF document and attached it for info.

Is anyone on here involved with this initiative? If so, did it attract much support?

It smells of bit of Burger King marketing to me, but perhaps I am being overly cynical.

I really don't see this campaing having any affect for a number of reasons:


Parking in the city is not too difficult on a sunday anyway (isn't this why the flyer proposes it?)
Most people are out of the city on a sunday - who's going to see
The flyer suggest you could join the protest on 4 wheels ! (WTF?)
The flyer also said the last event wasn't well publicised - well I spent the last week going round the CBD flyering for the ride and never saw a flyer, a poster, or approached by anyone. - I work just about smack bang in the middle of the red rectangle



I'm not in favour of disruptive action - but I'm thinking this is just a little too mild mannered - to the point nobody would even realise they were there....

A better way to approach (but similarly uinlikely to succeed as many CBD bikers could not really afford CBD parking) would be to organise a "drive to work" day. Get all the bikers with cars (no more than normally work in the city) to drive to work, place a large flour banner in the window ("I'm a biker - I don't normally take up a car space") - I guess bike to a car space with a similar message would work too.

This way there would be some pain for other car drivers so it would get attention. That day might also see the roads a bit busier too....

Even so - I'm not sure there's enough people who'd notice that much...

That sums up some of the burbles that had been going round my head rather well! Keen to know who's behind it though: they are anonymous in the flyer bar an email presumably created specifically for it. I'll ping them something out.

I got the flyer in a carpark off Durham Street on Friday. The buggers had been aroud and put them on top of the only official flyers allowed that day (i.e. for Maha's ride) that I had put out earlier! :nono:

Hi - for those who have not been following this thread - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=112831 - I was behind the "original" bikers big breakfast idea - which I can confirm was NOT a BK marketing ploy (and it would have been the BK at the bottom of Queen Street). It seems the idea has developed into something far more organised and successful in Mission Bay this Sunday (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=112831) so hope to see you all there. My apologies about the placement of the flyer chasio, I did make a specific effort to place them under the ride flyers - if I got it wrong, again, my apologies. :spanking: Also didn't realise there was an embargo on flyers on the day else I would not have placed them at all (and would have relied on the posting on this forum only)
