Super Cruisers: Harley-Davidson V-Rod, Honda Rune, Kawasaki Vulcan 2000, Triumph Rocket III, Yamaha V-Max

What makes the ultimate cruiser? Performance? Style? Speed? Rideability? We kicked it into super-cruise with five hard-hitting, streetwise motorcycles from Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph and Yamaha to find out. From the December 2004 issue of Motorcycle Cruiser magazine. :ride:

Ultimate cruiser is one with a light frame a decent rake and trail, a decent profile - a 'Productive' engine and wind protection.... wait a minute? that would be a super sports

Nice link btw :)

but maby one day when i have money and nothing better to spend it on, a turbocharged V-rod or Rune could be fun...

Dude stick with the Virago. It's as good a bikr as any of those just not as powerfull. And tell me if you ride a cruiser do you really need all that power? Unless you happen to be on a ride with all sportbikes and want to keep up. But I can attest that te Virago is capable of doing so if the rider is.

The Ultimate Cruiser? There is no such thing. It depends on the rider's needs really.

If I had better garaging, and of course a massive bank balance, I might check out a V-Rod.

If I had longer legs, and a drive-through garage so I didn't have to turn it around, I might flirt with a VN2000.

In the meantime, I'd agree that the Virago is the best allrounder. Low and light enough that a short-arse like me can manoeuvre it around without embarrassement, with enough power and ridability for NZ roads.

But that doesn't stop me checking out every cruiser in the bike shops, and haunting the internet review sites on a regular basis. That Motorcycle Cruiser Magazine site is one of my favourites!

Might be quicker trying to save for the ship rather than the V-rod

Hell yeah I'd love a cruiser too

For me? It'd have to be the Harley V-Rod. That has the most comfortable looking riding position from the pics. The most uncomfortable looking? Have a look at the Rune! Can anyone say sore back?

But If I was to have one I'd be all for the v-rod, the 04' 100year model that thing is DAMN fine, the 05' is a piece of shit on wheels.

Ok lowdown on the rune. I am 6 feet and 2 inces tall and when I sat on one of those I had to stretch to reach both the grips and foot pegs. No way would I ride one of tose even if it didn't look like a cross between a rino and an elephant. <TABLE class=tborder cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR title="Post 221749" vAlign=top><TD class=alt1 align=middle width=125>DarkOne</TD><TD class=alt2>

There is such a thing as an ultimate cruiser but it may be different for different people. So we are both right there, unless I read your post wrong and you were agreeing with me. As for being short, would you believe that Viragos have one of the igher seat higths of cruisers? What makes it good for shorter people is the distance from the seat to te bars and pegs.

Yes a lot of the bigger cruisers have a lower seat than the virago, but they are so damn fat I am on tip-toe when trying to reach the ground. That coupled with the weight (300+ Kg) makes them a little awkward for me. So the Virago it is for me! :ride:

Hehe that's one of the reasons I like the Virago. The bars on other cruisers are too wide for comfort or to low and I dont like a bif fat front tire. The only one that comes close to it is the Honda Shadow Spirit. Almost baught one of those instead.

They hardly ever look like the concept drawings but it should be close. I hope they change the headlight casing, still think it's ugly. But that just means I wont buy one. I wonder what the Shadow will look like next year...

Admit I was wrong about the supersports but the V-rod engine did start out on the track. They took the design from one of thier race bikes and as far as where I got this info, was on Discovery Channel a little before the v-rod hit the streets.

That's better. AMA Superbike is where the engine is derived from.

Then they sent it to them Germans at Porsche to dumb down for the masses. A V-Rod engine during development had to last 500 hours, flat chat, at full load on a dyno before HD would aprove the final build spec.

We have not seen a SINGLE MECHANICAL FAILURE on a VRSC motor.

Virago for me to.....

I am real short.... and all the other cruisers that I have sat on....
I end up up with one foot way up in the air... when just sitting on it going now where... plus they are to heavy for me.
What I find with other cruisers is that the seat is miles to wide, which is why the foot ends up in midair.....
The Virago has a narrow seat.

But when I go into bike shops I do look at all the other cruisers... then look back at mine... and go YUP mine is better.

I promise you, the V-rod is the most comfortable position in practice... easy on the wrists, knees and back. THE most comfortable ride of any bike I've ever ridden. Of course, it's not necessarily so for shorter or taller riders.
