Hello Ladies
There has been much talk about a Girly Coffee Ride through popular coffee spots to raise attention about the BIKEOI's aims and show the diverse face of bikers. It is time for the talk to come to something!
I know this is very short notice, but Radio NZ and the Herald have been calling about what's happening, so here's what I have told them:
WHEN: Saturday 21 November. Meeting 10.30am
WHAT: Coffee stops in Parnell, Mt Eden and Ponsonby
WHERE: Carpark behind Auckland Museum
WHY: To show that we have not gone away. To let people know what Tuesday was all about. To maintain support from the grass roots. To show we are a diverse bunch and not all leather clad knife toting scallions!
Numbers are not the aim here, the aim is dialogue with the community.
This first event will be followed up in about a fortnight with local events (North, South, East, West - volunteer for west and east regions anyone?). BUT I did tell them around 20. So would be good to get a decent show.
Contact me on 021 057 0749 for more details/ offers of help
Thanks, and let's get this show on the road!

I have my girls, but I still would like too, maybe dear Mrs PB would escort me into town.. .bit of a chicken to fly thru on my own... once I am off the motorway I am fine, stuck at 70km is not very funny anymore.

Thanks Rie, I was not expecting the call but thought it best to make the most of it, so I told the guy 20 bikes. Also said numbers are not the goal, rather to show the diverse face of biking. Any help getting the word out would be greatly appreciated!

Hanne

Yes, exact route not confirmed. More suggestions welcomed, as mentioned this is just the first ride of several! However Mom has arranged the Park in at mission bay the following day, so that may be better to target later down the track?

Hi Hanne
Got another 2 possibles (Mary and Anne).
Also we probably need to remember that there is the march for democracy on this Saturday so you may need to keep that in mind when you plan our route. I think it's just up Queen Street.
Have let the WIMA gals know and will hopefully have a few of them able to attend too.

Thanks Lucy!
Yeah, I realised this march was on the same day just before... think we should be ok though if we do parnell then mt eden then ponsonby, as we can go mt eden road and through Newton.
I am a Mt Eden local, plenty of parking there. Will have to have a look round parnell tomorrow, any suggestions of exactly where to park up welcome.
I also emailed WIMA from the links on their site but think your word of mouth will be more effective than that.

Thanks to those who turned up this morning, we did get some rather suprised looks when we rocked up in Parnell and Mt Eden and removed out helmets!
It was lovely to meet some new people and put faces ot some KB names.
Hopefully we can keep these rides happening regularly again, thinking of heading up Puhoi way or out to Raglan in future.
If anyone has any ideas/ feedback or would like to organise a ride, I have the email adresses of those who were there today including several non KBers who would liek ot hear about next time.

What a great idea. Maybe for the next coffee run you gals do, try and get all citys involved (and the press people) and have a mass coffee outing. I know my Mrs would be in for Christchurch.:2thumbsup

Thanks for organising this, Hanne and Princess Bandit! :2thumbsup
It certainly was fun seeing some of the surprised looks when the 'public' realised we were all girlies (even the two token boys were girlies in their own way). Even while we were riding I think the ribbons, pretty bikes and hair flying out from under the helmets might have been a clue.
What a lovely way to spend a Saturday.

What a great morning! It was nice to see some who I haven't seen for a while, and to meet new people and put faces to names.
I certainly think this should be a more regular thing.
It would still be nice to try and do the "across Auckland women bikers are out in force and will descend on [Newmarket] (place picked out of thin air)" type of ride, having our local papers covering the smaller groups which start in each location. Fingers crossed I can still organise it before I have my surgery.
