Mate TS..... I might need your experties!

Does anyone have a workshop manual (online) for a 04/05 Gixxer 600/750?

Thanks

rest of you can guess....

front let go on a drop of oil on damp road. low side at around 70~80kmh.... knees down elbow up hand over the face... landed and elbowed my myself in the ribs hence no marks on the leathers in the chest.. (ouch) so decide to do a tumble dry... so now I have a nice bruise coming out from my upper right leg.. :crybaby:

well that is my conclusion of what happened so far..

On the manual front, send WT a pm. I'm sure he'll be able to hook you up. May even be able to help on the parts/contacts front.

Thanks, good to have the opinion of a trained serious crash investigation unit officer :shifty: :msn-wink: :msn-wink:

My little tarmac excursion left a scrape of at least that length, and I was only going 50 km/h, or thereabouts...

Bad luck Zapf, hope you're not too sore, and get the bike back to new soon ey? They can be as good as new, take my word for it :niceone:

Mate, I was taking the piss. But, they can be, it all depends on the bin. I had everything replaced, so it feels like new, because it IS new

Now, my last Mountain Bike (push bike) was a different story. I hit a large rock oneday, went head over the front, landed on my head and bike hit the deck hard. Felt bent ever since then

thanks guys.... yes I was on the fast side for that corner... it was damp. and it was a right hand off camber dip I should have knowen better as I know about that corner and yet I binned.... I think i was doing around 70~80kmh

later JSG pointed out at the start of my skid marks there was a drop of oil... (great)!

so now I have a battered ego, sore ribs... (how do I tell if its just a bruise? I can inhale and exhale deeply and not be sore, just the odd pook and bending fowards triggers it)

a not so new anymore 750.... :( items damaged includes front fairing, crash bung (saved a lot of the side fairing), rear fairing, dented muffler, and broken rear brake lever.

anyone want to guess why the front brake and clutch lever feels a bit low (eg. bent downwards)? or is it just my mind? as I broke the right hand support (metal) for the mirror (under the fairing and blade) and the brake resoivor mount was bend down. could it just be the levers taken a good knock or something else?

as for damage to me, I have a small graze to my elbow where I landed. the leathers did a great job saving me... a special mention to the external plastic elbow armor. finally got my knee scrapers worned in the hard way. and there is a small cut (pinky sized) thru my leathers on the lower back... I would hate to guess what it was that cut thru the leathers..

Bugger I have the exact same thing I did my ribs in playing rugby and screwed them up again in a crash, You may have cracked one or two when they break DAMN do you know about it!
I think its worse with cracked ribs as they are hard to heal because you constantly keep cracking them, check yourself up so that ACC will cover any further problems!

Keep safe and sorry about the bin :(

Hi Felix,

Tell me tomorrow how you're feeling. I guess you're more sore thinking about your new toy than you are physically in pain.

It was weird seeing you fall as you fell and landed and rolled exactly as I did about 23 hours ago......

Sorry mate

Lets hope nothing on you or in you is broken, please do see a doc if you feel sore when you wake tomorrow.

....and take that bloody ugly weird photo out of there will ya:shifty:

It's interesting to note that after the crash your bike and your body travelled pretty much in a straight line tangent to the corner despite you taking the corner.

And you're right we were riding pretty fast for the conditions...... now we know huh?? :bash:

Less lean angle and more hanging off.....

yea.. you see from this photo. I would have been on the outside of the corner where that car is and then start to tip in. and then I nicely ran over the oil patch while tiping in and then finished of the landing nicely....

Sucks about the bin, especially since it's such a new bike.
At least it looks like you picked a reasonably good corner to do it on though, with decent run off etc.
What road was it on?

Zapf
25th April 2005, 10:36
erik,
its the road out to Piha. and have done the road over 100 times... guerrrr.

teflon,
you could be right.... however it is an off camber corner, correct me if I am wrong, but I was trying to avoid as much of the off camber as possible...

thanks TS,
how can I get a copy off you? I work in Town Quay street if you are ever on your way to colemans :P I can make a copy there.

I will be avoiding insurance again... thanks re plastic welder.... any idea if the "COWLING UPPER BRACE" can be welded? it broke off on the right hand side just before the mounting for the mirror. Know of any good painters?

Does anyone have a spare right hand frame slider? as I'll have to replace mine, will pay $ of course.

Rear Brake level, anyone know of any reasonable after market item out there? as a OEM one will cost over $100. thanks.

Good Morning Zapf

How's it all feeling today?? Ribs ok?? Whats this bruise on your leg you're talking about?? How did you get that??

Mr Skid
25th April 2005, 10:51
Shit Zapf, if you wanted some scrubbed in sliders a bit of sandpaper would have sufficed.

Sorry to hear about the gixx, sounds like you've only brusied your ribs, rather than breaking any. I've had similar symptoms and nothing was broken.

I'm not suprised Scenic Drive has bitten again, it's a nasty bit of goods.

Ah... I thought it looked rather familiar. Scenic Drive/general Waitaks are not a favourite of mine for riding quickly. Great for cruising on though.

Best of luck getting things back together. Try ebay for parts if you havent already. Although it is a little more risky than getting OEM from a shop, it is much cheaper.

Not good that so many of us had offs - which one of us pissed off the biker god?

gav
25th April 2005, 18:36
Yeah, but K14 was on the race track :niceone: Just a thought though, you said you found a spot of oil where your skid marks started, that oil wouldnt have sent you down, you'd need to look say 20 metres before hand, travelling at speed the bike will still travel some distance before it actually hits the tarmac wont it, more likely the oil could be your oil from your bike? check you havent cracked a case cover or something.

justsomeguy
25th April 2005, 18:44
From what I saw and since I was the only eye witness riding a few meters behind you'll will have to take my word for it:

Horribly slippy, wet, smooth road + seriously off-camber corner + too much lean angle = :thud:

The pics were taken well after the bin. The road was really  before. It's a wonder that nothing major happened and we were really lucky that he came off where he did instead on on Scenic Drive where you either go smack into a mountain or down off the cliff.............

Don't think the oil caused the spill, the road was slippery enough without it.

Ive heard the oil causes a few accidents, I always wondered how that comment can be made so definately when a crash was more likely caused by rider behaviour not "the illusive oil", I think oil is a easy out, take it like a man and admit you fucked up.
I did ,I fucked up on Sunday !!!
I was at 100 kmph between Tauramanui and Kiratau junction it was cold and had been raining, the sun came out and we were into dry roads, so I picked the pace up to about 140 kms I saw a 75km corner and slowed to about 120 and turned into the corner and FUCK !!!!!! the corner was wet and Glassy !!!!!

I had a serious OH FUCK moment. I rode through it and came out the other side and gave myself a serious bollocking !!!!!
WT was behind me ( I was directing) I was being a silly pumped up dickhead for a moment and it could have been easily a serious crash.
Point is, I think if you fuck up say it like it is, that way we can learn from it.
I dont think its right to put the fear of the "illusive oil" into the heads of other bikers, cause its rarely there.

Zapf Im glad your okay mate and I hope its not to long before youre back on the road.

If anyone is wondering why Im being so serious I know of about 5 people who have come of this weekend and I really think its fucken lucky no one is seriously hurt. Im a bit sobered up about it all and I think we should reflect abit and take a reality check about what we do out on the roads.

I never said I was a saint either.
