Am I missing something?

I understand that the no fault part of ACC means that it doesn't matter if you CAUSED the accident or if you were a VICTIM of the accident you were eligible for compensation. Hence why criminals are covered under ACC even when committing a crime.

It seems that people are taking no fault to mean have something to do with risk.

I understand that ACC didn't recognise risk either. But I am pretty sure that no fault and risk assessment are completely different.

I understand that it is everyone chips in to cover us all.

This is why it is different to insurance, which assess risk and charges accordingly.
So talk of one group being more at risk than another is not the point of the system at all. But is very relevant to insurance. Which is where National wants this to go, IMHO.

Interesting that this is the barrow the Government is trying to push aye.

Sorry if this has been covered before. I guess the emotive angle the Government is pushing is better for their battle to destroy ACC.

Should this be a point we try to make?

That's right - it was a no fault scheme - and for that privilege we gave up our right to sue.
Now it's being treated as just another insurance scheme, with risk assessments etc, but the right to sue will be conveniently overlooked. Well done NZ - once again you'll end up with the worst of all options!
