I've written 3 letters to the local paper, and had them published. One of them was more or less an article, with a photo. I've sent 2 txts to ed, and so has YT, and had them published. YT got one article printed about the issue prior to Tuesday's Bikeoi. I organised a protest ride to a local MP. YT organised for media and photographer presence on both 14/11 and 17/11 (they never turned up). I've got a date organised for a few of us to 'meet' with Phil Goff locally. I spent days collating info, and turning it into an address, which YT presented in Hastings. The same address was delivered by Mom in Auckland and was taken to cabinet by Craig Foss. YT organised a Parking Protest, to put the issues in front of the public. YT has spent maybe 2 hours on the phone to various press/media, and been on National radio.
2 other HB riders put a plan together for the ride to Welly.
Nobody else AT ALL has done anything in Hawkes Bay, except maybe turn up.
We're tired of doing all the work.
Where to, from now?

Two weekends in a row for us, I have been to four events/a night BRONZ meeting in Auckland/another night in Auckland making up vests etc for the Wellington event. It seems like every week we have been involved with the whole ACC thing in one form or another. Its been a pleasure so far, and no doubt we will continue. We will give it a rest for a week or two now, next weekend we are going to the beach. The question was asked a few times today ''so whens the next protest''? we did point out a couple of things that are on next weekend but we wont be around. On DEC' 5th there is something in the making and we will attend that. Theres alot of work that goes into organising a event, and we do get alot of support and are very greatfull of that. Its not that we are over it, just need to step away a bit for a week or two.
Dont give up John and Tart.

Trouble is, Jim, I feel very tired...I have put HUUUUGE amounts of time and energy in to this....pushing shit up hill against the naysayers, and those who actively discourage any thing...not that they put forward any counter ideas, just opposition.
I'm sorely tempted to say" Fuck you lot and the horse you rode in on" and leave it all alone.
Right now tho, I m off to have a wine..I reckon I've earned it!

Tart, I am tired too. I am going to have a weekend off next weekend. Ruakaka is a place we go to to relax. No phone, no TV, no radio, no internet. A couple of days of seclusion and taking your shoes off and walking bare foot on the beach is good for the soul.

I came to the realisation at the BIKEOI last week that you can only do what you can do. The organisers were brilliant. They put it out there and had to let it go once it was underway. Such is the depth of feeling and the respect a big chunk of this "community" has for each other it went without a hitch.
I got royally pissed off when someone put a link to better quality videos in MY thread.
What a dick I is, but when you're knackered and working hard you lose perspective.
Take a day off and let things happen by themselves. It will be OK, I promise.

Yeah
It's a real important point for organisers to realise that no one person can do everything. You'll just burn out an die. This is too big for any one person. Even bits of it are too big.
Y' got to pick some good people , load 'em up, and fire them off. ANd trsut that it will all work out.
It's what management is about. Pick good people, give them the message, give them space and let them do their thing.
Take a break folks, and when y' get back , look around for some people to delegate to . You in your small corner, I in mine
(There was a man once did that, picked twelve good Bastards. Look where that ended up)

This is a very good point made.
We have had some awesome people just offer up (and sometimes not, they just go ahead and do) thier services. Without them, everything would be that much harded. Even just listening to thier opinions and option helps.
Having a small but committed group of 4-5-6 people around you, and being fully supportive of the task at hand, takes the weight.

I think it's really important for the whole 'cause' and for us as individuals that we don't get burned out by this whole thing.
Set up your own networks if you can - local ones who you can delegate to, and ones further away who can be your own personal cheerleaders.
Here are some examples of people who are supporting me and keeping my energy up:
Hanne. She came along to the big BRONZ meeting and showed herself willing and able to help out and use her own initiative. I shamelessly took advantage of her and her obvious talents, and she has now become an essential part of the Auckland BRONZ team.
Pussy. Just for fun check out the visitor messages on my profile page. I told him early on that I was going to be getting tired soon and would need some cheering up. The man has done a brilliant job and my heart lifts every time I see a new message from him.
The BRU crew. I have just become a new member of the group and find them so supportive that I have no fear in expressing my frustration when I'm exhausted and things aren't going the way I would like. I know I will get unconditional (and confidential) support from them and that's worth its weight in gold.
So look around and see if there is someone in your networks who can fill some of these roles. A friend who's not even a biker? A family member? A KB person who's in a whole different town to you who will pledge to send you supportive texts or visitor messages?
My energy is also waning at times, but I know I'm in this for the long haul so I need to nurture myself and accept nurturing from others.

Personally I would never endorse protesting at the private home of an MP, or an ACC employee, or anyone else.
We have plenty of other ways we can protest without making it personal.

I am tired at the moment. I have frankly been overwhelmed by the number of people that have simply stepped up and done what needed to be done. This must be a team effort, and we must all take care of ourselves. For me this means I am taking a weekend out. We have a refuge at Ruakaka, a caravan at the beach. No radio, no TV, no phone, no internet. Cell phone coverage is patchy at the best of times, we simply dont have them on, apart when Mom o'clock arrives. 5pm every day no matter what I have to ring my Mommy.
My advice, accept any and all offers of help, spread the load so it is not onerous for anyone.
Grab a good crowd of friends around you for support when you are frustrated or angry or simply crying tired.
I am here for the long haul.

Nick Smith is the Minister for ACC in our current government. He is not personally doing anything to you, or to me or to anyone else. He is simply doing his job, the same way I do every day.
I really dont like what is happening at the moment, but I am hardly likely to blame Nick's Myth personally.

In todays issue, page three, headline advising that car levies are going up 60%.
AA Spokesman Mark Stockdale quoted as saying they represent 1.2. million members and are quite concerned as to the level of the increase.
Making comment on motorcycle levies he states that a $500 a year increase is quite significant, buy still states we should be paying more.
