As above... getting pretty close to the wear markers on the rear and wondering at what stage others changed their tyre.

Errrmmmm...never taken notice of the wear markers. Usually go on shape of tyre and handling...and when I get a fucking puncture that roots the tyre!

After a few weeks.... no seriously... one set lasted about 3 weeks  ok... so I did 7000km odd in about 2 of those weeks
Bit of a judgement call, but I normally aim to get 8500km of normal use out of them. I'll run them on a bit further if the weather is good and vice versa. I've had to pull a few off early because of big rides and the tyre wouldn't last etc...

Ditto, usually change before a big ride if I think they won't go the distance without needing a change...5 to 6K rear, 8 to 9k front.

I change them when they need changing. Last one was because it failed a WOF (strange - it looked fine to me - still had tread). One time it was because I'd had a weekend at Coro, and when I happened to be in at Motohaus, Kerry said, "Dude! Your tyre's fucked!".
"Waddaya mean?!? It's still got some tread!"
"Where?"
"Um... there's a bit there, and another bit over there..."
I might (or might not) just 'bite the bullet' and replace the back tyre. It passed a WOF no problems yesterday, but I think it's used up all it's heat cycles. It spins up a bit out of corners, which the mighty VFR has never done before. Of course, that could be because I've got the damping set worngA...

Bad tyres can render thousands of dollars worth of bike useless and can be a health risk to the rider and possibly others! :doctor:
I really like to have good rubber between me and the nasty scratchy poky stuff that they (Tyres) have to deal with!
Risk of serious damage to the tyres increases as they wear, when I lose confidence in them, off they come!
Shape and wear marks are helpful indicators.

When the wear marker fabric shows or when the understeer gets unmanagable

On at least one of my old bikes it was
"when the handling gets dodgy"
The front tyres would start to feel 'off' long before the wear was obvious...

I know where you're coming from.
I did a tyre change a couple of years ago.
Cost me a muffler.

Ah ha, I seem to remember that, on the way to "Woodstock" no less!
That was the ride that dopey bastard tried to kill me on that one way bridge!
I was going to get a new set of tyres at Christchurch during that ride.
Can't be too careful about changing tyres then can you!

Change mine if they wearing aspecially as winter comes on ..... my bike failed the front tire this week, had the centre tread line under 1.5 mm and all the rest of the tyre was good..... WoF testing station said rules have changed and if its under 1.5 at any part of the tyre its a fail ggggrrrrr But Ive changed to KING tyres and the rear was getting 13,000km and the KINGS get me 20,000km, dont know what they're like on a sporty bike but my slowish ole cruiser runs good on them, a Harley owner put me onto them.

i find replacing both at the same time is best, even if there is still abit of tread on one more then the other then you get even wear patterns. you do have to take it bloody easy wearing them in though.
have seen dudes get a new rear then gun it leaving the bike shop only to have the rear give an them and there wheels go sliding down the road:oi-grr:
