We need to use the power of the internet to get a simple
One ACC levy for all private road users
message out there.
Have we got some techo viral exposure skills out there somewhere in biker land ?

I would prefer one that says something like "One Person, One Levy, One Problem - One Government" or OPOLOPOG for short

If we get a well structed message together which covers all of the facts about our case:
All KB members could email it to all of their friends who they could ask to email it to all their friends.
Before you kmow it, we will be getting the same email back many times over and we will have got through firewalls that we would otherwise not overcome.
IMO - This will method will achieve greater visibility than anything else.

This is the kind of ideas I am asking for in this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=113064
But so far the idea of advertising has been wildly unpopular

There are too many facts for one message/email. People won't read it all. Or take it in. Also, many of the facts are subjective (yes yes, I know Nick Smith's facts are even more subjective). Mr Man-in-the-street needs to be confronted with a minimum of info. The info must be correct. And it would be a really good idea to present him with that info AS IT RELATES TO HIM.
That re-inforces the Who's Next message, and gets him interested in maybe looking a bit closer at what's happening.

I do agree however we do need to produce something marketable.

Yes. We do. Something simple like this...
130,000 bikes and scooters - 665 accidents are ‘our fault’
Unmarked roadworks, diesel spills, poor road surfaces
that cause us to crash, are recorded as ‘our fault’
We are less than 0.03% of ACC’s budget
Our levies are already higher than yours
We cost less than car-based injuries
We cost less than unlevied rugby players
We cost less than unlevied cyclists
We are NOT the problem that Nick Smith and ACC say we are.
Levy rises will put many motorcycles off the road
OUR FIGHT IS YOUR FIGHT
BECAUSE YOU ARE NEXT

130,000 bikes and scooters
Those are good points, but doesn't that leave a window for Nick Smith just go back to his original argument again?:
$62 million paid out to bikers, this must be paid my someone.
($62,000,000 divided by 130,000 = $476 worth of levies for each of us.)
Note that I'm not one of these people who knows all the stats inside out...
Anybody got some good simple one or two liner comebacks?
I feel we need to directly fight this statement, or come up with something else that will really shock the public (like I tried to do in my video -see signature).

Do you have the source for that, I've seen it in one of teh ACC docs but can't remember which one.
I think that's our next campaign point.
"Maybe you think bikers should just pay up and shut up. But , do you realise, YOU'RE NEXT. We got hit this year. But you are going to be hit next year. ACC levies for cars are to go up to (whatever that is) next year.
No shit, it's official, check it out on their website (URL). Will you just pay up and shut up? At least you'r egetting an extra year's warning"

the man-in-the-street / joe public view is probably what's needed to get viral - therein lies the challenge .... Viral videos rarely happen by accident though - sometimes it takes a bigger budget than traditional advertising.. but the payoff is much bigger.
I'm not sure we have a message big enough on it's own to get the interest of the masses - not that I'm a nay-sayer - but I don't think enough people care about us.
If we could come up with some verifiable story about how the nat government is leading us astray in a numbe rof areas and include our story as a small part of that - we might have hope.
I'm certainly no expert - but here's a blog I read about viral videos...

Absolutely. But as far as i'm concerned the message is obvious. We want to save ACC no matter what happens, it seems to be what the people (who thus far know about it... virals always good) want and it's about time someone showed the servants exactly who's boss (for the people by the people), they can't just do what they want, they need to justify how they use our money when we want to know or call (now where is that icon)!

y'know .. just been rewatching some of the Bikeoi vids speeches ... some of those are almost good enough to be viral on their own if properly presented - especially with credible people

cut together properly - may make the points - adding that they were part of the biggest protest this country has seen in years might add to the credibility and interest factor
