Jorja's over at North Shore Hospital there with severe belly pains (read as labour level pain)
She waited 6 hours having been refered over by her doctor.
without even examining Jorja A doctor said to her --"ohh theres nothing wrong with you we'll send ya home"
This was said as this doctor was heading out the door to go home and was the FIRST time she had looked at Jorja.

The reason for this post being HUGELY edited is that as soon as said doctor left the building her decision was overruled.
Yesterday a specialist looked at Jorja's chart and asked why a whole list of tests hadn't been carried out by this particular doctor.
You could cut the air with a knife.
So now the tests have started and I apolgise to all the other staff who are working their arses off.
It's unbelievably hard seeing someone you love in pain and not be able to do a bloody thing about it.

There must to many sick bastards in Auckand, yesterday on the radio they reported that you could expect anywhere between 6-8 hours to be seen by a doctor at either North Shore or Auckland Hospitals, both place's rate first an second as the worst in NZ for this kinda thing.

FFS- waste a whole day -and spend it keeled over in agony to have a trainee doctor tell you that

my mate came off his bike and hurt his shoulder a while ago, he went to northshore hospital in horrible pain, sat there for 5 hours, and was told to go home and have a couple of panadol, later that night he went to waikato hospital(he lives in hamilton) only had to wait half an hour to see a doctor, 1 hour later he was in x-ray, sure enough his rotator cuff was split in two, surgery was required and he was in a cast for 6 weeks

Sorry you (or more accurately the missus) had a bad time there.

Ive been there a number of times and honestly cant say that I have seen anything less than awesome service / results.

Plenty of people have had their lives saved by those 'morons' as well.

Maybe the doctor transfered from Hastings....
I went to the em docs with my shoulder still out of its socket. They told me it was a bump and sent me to get some pain pills from the chemist...
MRI showed that there was a more than 200 degree tear in my shoulder ligaments.

Thats really suck service. I took my other half into Lower Hutt hospital not long ago after she was knocked over by a dog and have to say it was pretty good. 1 hour wait, Dr and Nurse gave great service, checked her over properly.

It's got nothing to do with "morons" working there mate. The people that work there are by and large, doing their best and are extremely overworked. Just the way it is.

had a similar deal 2 years ago, belly pains (near blacking out level), doctors didn't know what was wrong etc, asked if i should be on a differnet diet or summat "nah you'll be fine" went to hostpital after that still couldnt figure out what it was. Then someone had the brilliant idea of going to a naturopath, he put me on a hardout diet and pain was drastically reduced within a week...

Turns out it was a stress/diet induced bacteria imbalance in my guts, which had started to eat me from the inside out.

Dunno if thats what Jorja is going through, if so, get to a naturopath asap!

+1. It's the fragility of the system which causes the problems.

I understand the frustrations, though. We had major dramas with Miss Mully's mum and Muddlemore.

sorry dude Im upset by the way she'sbeing treated.

We had a similar experience after my wife's first child. The emergency C-section done by a Registrar had become infected giving her horrendous abdomen pain that left her keeled over in pain. We spent hours waiting over several trips there (all with a newborn) to no avail. Sent home and being told it was normal.

EVENTUALLY someone actually looked into it properly and they found a significant infection via scan. Eventually that got drained and treated.:oi-grr:

They are not Morons Frosty they are excellent Doctors and nursing staff that are overworked, under resourced and are stretched to the limit. They are just human and make errors like you do. Perhaps you could lobby the DHB's to fund hospitals better so your wife can have the treatment you expect from a first world hospital.
Hope Jorja gets better soon, just take it easy on the staff they are doing there best with what they have.

I understand where Frosty is coming from 100%. Waiting for 4 hours in ED is bad enough when it's for you, but when it's for your loved ones, it's torturous! I guess the thing to remember is that the triage nurse is there to assess your level of urgency. Severe pain or even broken/dislocated limbs are low priority compared to the noob cager that's flipped their car in a ditch and is fighting for their life etc. If you've done first aid, they tell you that at a car crash scene, the person screaming for help or in pain is less likely to need immediate attention than someone quiet.

LOL. Hamiltron used to have a naturopath. She's in jail for trying to defraud ASB for $3 million  I probably shouldn't really say this since, while I don't believe in many naturopathic/homeopathic remedies, I do strongly believe in the wonder that is the placebo effect :2thumbsup
Bogan, sorry to hear about your gut ulcer. You'd hope the doctor would know this but then again they've only just graduated from university and know shit all really. It's good to get a consultant and not a noob house surgeon

lol, yeh theres bad ones in every profession I spose, the Dr that saw me has been family dr for over 20 years, so he knows a lot of shit, we got a consult and everything too, but they wanted to run more tests (3k and couple of weeks wait) and shit. And it was definitely not the placebo effect, just the difference in conventional medicine vs natural. Conventional has to be sure of a diagnosis before trying shit, whereas natural can just try a heap of shit and it'll sort it :2thumbsup

Yep, I slived my foot right the fuck open one evening at 5pm. Got to the NSH by about 5:45 after finding it was pretty deep (Apparently very lucky it didn't sever the tendens and ALL the nerves).

Left at 5:30am with 6 stitches. By a doctor kind enough to notice how long I'd be waiting, AN HOUR after his shift finished. What he was doing there, I do not know.

when you go to hospital you should always say that you have had a hard nock on the noggin that way you will get prioritised right up the waiting list or in your missus's case a seriously hard nock on the noggin that has brought on violent stomach cramps.

I've just spent 6 weeks in there and I agree with what's written above. The crap equipment the day-to-day nurses have to work with and the hot-bed scenario the doctors have to work with. North Shore was underfunded throughout the comrad Helen years and what you are experiencing is the result. If you go out to Middlemore, or the Manukau Super Centre you will see what decent funding can do.

The North Shore has too many white middle class people so there were no votes for the red brigade and, ergo, we missed out on the funding.

Try......

Migraines, vommiting, vertigo, slurred words, confusion (while being medicated for extremely high blood pressure) to be told "you have the flu, have you ever had the flu before?" The person involved was told over the phone to stay home and that they didn't need to see a doctor.

Had severe pain while pregnant with our daughter from 12wks onwards. Was told that unless I was bleeding it was normal. (Normal apparently being unable to walk and by 29wks keeling over in pain). That said the outcome would have been the same.

Take her back and jump up and down a bit. I don't blame you for needing somewhere to vent.
