Bus lane questions...

From some searching around it is my understanding that, in Auckland at least, we are permitted to use any bus lane that is not part of the motorway system. That made me wonder a few things that I couldn't answer:

What about intersections that have a the "B" traffic light? Are we allowed to use those? (Indeed are there any that are not part of the motorway on/off ramp system.)

What about motorway onramps that don't feed into a bus lane (Fanshawe St onramp for example).

What about transit lanes? (All right, the answer to this one is probably in the search - but I was already writing.)

i always use the transit lane when im in auckland for for, if i get stopped my exsuse is im driving a farking transit van ffs

don't be a dick; just filter up the front of the "normal" lights rather than holding the cagers up - use the buslane if you wish just try not to hit the sensors

we can use all bus lanes and T2 lanes and probably T3 too.

they gave cyclists those nice green areas at the front so they could hold up the traffic that had just passed them traffic so we may as well use them too.

BUS ONLY, means exactly that, and is used on motorways. A police officer told me that there is also a 50kph speed limit for various safety reasons.

Depends on the lane. You can use transit lanes, but not special vehicle lanes (such as the truck lane at Stanley St)... this has been covered (Thread: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=108463&highlight=transit+lane)

As long as they are a TRANSIT LANE (be aware there are several different types of lane classification) then yes... its been covered as well... :whistle: (see above link)

Further thought son this one.

I am of the opinion you may not proceed through a white 'B' because the Land Transport Rule specifically says that only a bus may proceed.

However green 'B' indicators are tricker. The Land Transport Rule only defines a green "disc" and a green "arrow".

So if you consider a green 'B' to be a "disc", then you can proceed. Otherwise I think you would need to defer to local bylaws, which varies city by city.

EDIT: After considering the look of a green 'B' further, I don't think you would describe the 'B' as a "disc". The light simply looks like a letter.
