OK, this is about the ACC Bill now before Parliament. NOT specifically about our levies though there are implications . So, I put it here.

BRONZ will make a submission (as may you all).

I'm getting a feel of what we AS BIKERS feel should be opposed (or supported) . Please note AS BIKERS. So I'll do a poll. Give me bit of time, polls aren't instant.

The principle clauses are (I'm simplifying a lot here , if you want the full monty, go here (http://www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2009/0090/latest/DLM2417501.html#DLM2417501))

Move the full funding date from 2014 to 2019. basically gives ACC longer to save up money , should mean cheaper levies in the short term.

Enable experience rating and risk sharing in Work Account. Experience rating is like a no claims bonus. Risk sharing is when big corporations self insure

Enable risk rating in Motor Vehicle Account for both vehicles and vehicle owners Doesn't really mean what it says, it's about giving "safe" cars a discount. But the side effect is that they could use it to hit us even harder.

A number of what they call "cost containment amendments"

Tougher requirments to get ACC for 'gradual process' - eg hearing loss
Reduced payments for young people, non permanent workers and low paid (under minimum wage) workers. Plus you have to use up all your holiday pay before getting ACC

Cut off ACC if you can work 30 hours (now is 35)

Cut off ACC if you can do ANY job (this is the 'surgeon told to get a job as a car park attendant' clause)

Remove cover for suicide and wilful injury

Remove cover for person injured committing a crime (be careful with this, the definition is an offence punishable by two years gaol. That includes a lot of motoring offences. They courts almost never hand out gaol sentences for them , but they COULD)

The ones specifically relevant to motorcyclists are the Move the full funding date from 2014 to 2019 and the Enable risk rating in Motor Vehicle Account. In the case of a few riders, maybe the one about suicide might be relevant.

Please tick the box against the ones you OPPOSE. If you support it, or don't have an opinion , don't tick. Special people ahve their own option.

Ok for us poor simple types. With all the figures that we have had during this process what is the financial outlook if everything stays the same?

Most of the clauses don't have a major effect on motor vehicle levies overall (though they may have a major effect on anyone injured).

The exception is the extension from 2014 to 2019. That SHOULD , in theory (don't hold your breath), reduce the figures currently quoted by about $150 averaged across all capacities

DOH, sorry I should have been more specific.

I was getting at the whole "ACC is broke" claim being made by Nat. We are claiming that ACC ain't broke. If this is true then surely non of the other cost saving measures are needed. Or am I beating my self with the wrong end of the logic stick.

Some of them, for instance the suicide and "injured while committing a crime" ones, aren't really related to costs. The overall cost for those is quite small .

Others like the experience and risk ones won't have any significant effect on ACC finances, they are preparation for selling it off.

Cut off ACC if you can do ANY job

I can understand the end goal, but fuck me it would have to be well written.....

I can just imagine ACC saying "haha no compensation, you could do one of those jobs where you sit on your arse and count cars driving past".

So.... "sorry boss I'm going to have to quit this sales job you spent six months training me on because even though I'll be back in 6 weeks ACC won't pay me so I'm going to have to get a job at Pak'n'Save so I can pay the rent"
