Hi guys,

I am thinking of building myself a bucket, to race in welly, out of a complete bike, and swap out the engine for a loncin 150.
Pretty much, will a loncin 150 swap easily into a kawasaki kr150?
Or what about a kawasaki zzr250?
Just really bouncing some ideas because I am a bit clueless.
If not, what would be your best bet on a donor bike for a bucket?

Any help much would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Max

Not sure about that frame, but I do know where there is a second hand Loncin engine if you are interested.

What about the zzr? sorry, just edited that in. Source for an engine would be nice but I don't mind buying new for the price of them...

Not sure about that frame either, mine is in a RG250 frame (see my profile picture)

$400 would get you all this :2thumbsup
Engine (just over 12 months old)
http://newmanz.co.nz/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_6&products_id=5

Comes with the upgraded carb, 30mm double pumper with a nicely flowed
manifold (two other shaped manifolds included)
http://newmanz.co.nz/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_20&products_id=47

Has a race CDI as well as the stock CDI
http://newmanz.co.nz/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=208

Has a race coil kit as well as the stock one
http://newmanz.co.nz/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=206

12 (on the engine), 13, 14 and 17 front sprockets

Oil changed after every third race meeting, always used Castrol Power 1 GPS.

Goes pretty damn well, just in the wrong frame.

I think the KR150 frame would be OK. ZZR is a bit heavy but nothing else wrong with it. Everyone will have different opinions.

Are you a 'fast' rider or more starting out? Do you already have the frames?

Na don't have frames. I am just looking at cheap options.
And yeah I am just starting out (hopefully) on the race track.

Any other so you think the KR might work... What is a GSXR250 frame like?
Just getting an idea...

Thanks for the offer. This will be a post christmas project but if it is still available, I could take you up on it. For now just teaching myself up a bit.

I just got rid of my Gixxer frame to Wallace (one of the ChCh dudes who came up for the Endurance race).
Had you enquired last week,...

But a GSXR or I'm assuming "Gixxer" works well enough?

Yup,..there's 2-3 frames out there already and they go okay.

Thanks mate. There seem to be quite a few around going cheap so it might be a good option for me. I will see how it all pans out.

No worries.
Definitely recommend a Loncin engine (like Kendog is promoting) as a good engine for starting out on (and as Fishie has shown is quite competitive !!).
I had a season on mine and never gave an ounce of trouble (apart from vibrating everything off including the carb !!).

Right sounds good. Apart from the vibrations. Will just need to get some heavy locktight.

Don't the Loncin Engines end up to be more like 700$ when GST and the compulsory freighting is added on to the price?

Might be a good idea to take up kendog then...

Almost spot on, I just logged into Newmanz and it would cost $716.75 to send to Wellington.

I am happy for you to come round and have a look sometime if you like.

Yeah that could be good. My dad will be funding it ( I am only 16) and he is away for a bit, but maybe I can convince him to make it a christmas present...
I am only over in khandallah so I am quite close to you. I will give you a PM some time.

Do they have a special red edition? Man that thing would be quick! Or in Skunks case, a green one.

It's only the beginning, plenty of time for you to get into it in a few years.

True, you have plenty of time. I bought a bucket about 20 years ago of a mate but couldn't afford the leathers etc to go with it, now too many years and a lot of road and dirt riding later I started with buckets about 4 months ago. Loving it but also enjoyed the interveneing years.
