View Full Version : The problem with curves

Hi everyone!
I'm sure this has been asked a million times.... but where on earth do you find good women bike jeans? I'm a pretty curvy chick (gotta love the hour glass figure) and last summer my partner got me to get a jacket which I love... but this summer he's put his foot down and said I have to get pants as well. I would want them to be stylish and practical but as my flat mate found out what see on the net might fit the waist doesn't always fit booty. We live in Wellington so if anyone can direct me (and my flat mate) to where we can find some or threads where we find details it would very much appreciated. I'm missing the bike :'(
Thanking you!

Welcome to KiwiBiker, Mischeif!

I can't help you with a direct answer because I don't live in Wellington, but I can tell you what I did as a solution to the same problem.

I bought some cheap Draggin jeans from the Motomail outlet store here in Auckland. I got ones that fitted my hips, even thought the waist was way too big. Then I took them to a specialist custom-bike-gear maker and got her to take them in at the waist to fit me.

A note of caution: Don't take them to a normal alterations shop. The alterations need to be done so the kevlar is properly positioned and all the seams are sewn in a way that they won't come apart in case of an accident.

I hope that helps.

There is Leather Direct in Cuba Mall which has a range of draggin jeans and other kevlar jeans (Im actually the same, have to get a size that fits my legs/ass but then the waist is way too big!)

They also do leather!

Well I don't know about the original poster, but when I say "curvy" I actually mean "curvy"! ie. out at the hips, in at the waist, out at the bust. As a result, jeans that fit the hips are too wide at the waist.

You do not need to be fat to have a curvy figure!

Thank you everyone for your replies! You're all awesome  They really helped.. for all you asking for pics... maybe... and if I find a pair that make my arse look good :msn-wink: and you promise to behave!
Miss.L - Thanks about the Hornee Jeans... I really like the look of them - going to try and find a pair
Pussy/ Hawkeye/ renegade master - Sadly not very rich and I do want to go riding before Christmas so wont have time (money) at the moment to get a custom a pair
Thanks rachprice - heading there tomorrow/friday
Sidewind - Upper Hutt is a bit far but if I have no luck with leather direct I'll head there
kiwirach83 - I mean curvy definately curvy and love it!
Klingon - I share your pain. We leave my bedroom window unlocked for this reason... Just be greatful you were wearing clothes (I hope) trying to climb in the window wearing a towel is not easy or fun at all
Mom - completely agree... but they do make good pillows like that

Don't worry. I mean it. And listen to these people. more money spent will save in the long run. in regards to safety gear.

Or you could save a little bit and just ride safely, not at silly speeds and save it for the track (or empty back roads you know well at a minimum)

I would suggest you beg, borrow etc to get gear asap for road riding. A mate talked me into buying proper gear which I thought was an exobitant waste of money until I got cut off by a car during a thunderstorm (front wheel lock up to avoid it, then the bike went out from under me). You never know when people aren't going to see you.

Maybe you should just aim for a man that's single with a bike that looks good:bleh:

+1 on that!

They are so very comfy. Only thing I recommend is, make sure you get a size, if not two sizes smaller. I got mine and they were tight-ish to begin with, but now they are so baggy I can take them off without undoing the fly or zipper. Kinda handy in an "emergency" :D

Yep that goes without saying when its leather. I nearly had to lie down (in the shop!) to zip them up LOL. I walked around in them for ages and sat down and stood up numerous times and sure enough the leather began to ease just from the warmth of my body. I wear a belt and they still fit great after 2 months of solid use. I find that they seem to stretch a bit during the day while I'm wearing them but then they shrink back overnight.

I find them very good, as they cater for the more voluptuousnessed of calfs.

28th December 2009, 10:06
If you cant afford custom gear...
Try Technic jackets. They not huge across the shoulders, are adjustable in the waist and fit nicely around generous curved butt, and still have room for touring gear underneath.

Mobig pants are the best fit Ive found in the ready made range. They have a shape that actually makes me look like a woman, ie, in at the waist and out around the bum.

The thing I like most about these two brands is that I am nearly 6 foot and a size 18-20 so its really hard to get stuff that fits. they do have smaller sizes and even ones that swim on me.

lol, of course I do have the usual problem at gas stations of 'what pump are you at Mate" then the double take when they realise the bloke on the old Kwaka is actually about the same age as their Mum...LMHO. but what the hell I was getting those comments/looks 20 years ago as well. some things never change and limited imagination is one of them... silly buggers little do they know what they're missing!

hey, um i always just wore normal jeans or pants, i was even know to ride in a short skirt skimoy top and high heels!
you should just ride in anything you feel is comfortable. but the bigger bike shops should have a ladies section in their riding gear stuffs.
i actually have a pair of mens riding pants cos im a large curvy girl and ANZA in palmy only had skinny ladies riding gear in about the size 6 to 10 range
