View Full Version : Wellington - National Party Christmas Cocktails
Bend-it

For the Wellington folks...
http://www.national.org.nz/events/displayevent.aspx?EventId=1612
Open to General public even...
Address: 68 Calcutta St, Khandallah
Date: 3 Dec 2009
Time: 6 - 9pm
Turn up early on bikes ('coz we're good citizens and don't want to be late) strategically park bikes, and socialise with our leathers/Easy target t-shirts on... Might even get the chance to chat with some people and educate them about our views! :)
Meet at Kaiwharawhara Caltex at 5.45 and roll on up about 5.50pm... Takes 5mins to get there...
Also, if less than 10 bikes show up and it just looks silly, then we can just go for a bike ride instead! :scooter:

If you have a hunt on the National Party Website, there is bound to be some Public Meeting in your parts that you can organise something about.

Open to General public even...
I like this idea! To be all official like maybe we should email the contact person to tell her we're coming - not mention the bikes, just that we as individual members of the 'general public' will be coming.

So a poll's up to see what kind of interest there is to do this... Again, 2 or 3 bikes will just look pathetic. 10 upward could start being interesting, don't really need bikoi-type attendance, seeing as it's someone's house! :)

Hmm, i'm sure my arm could be twisted into turning up at the Ballance Residence in Khandallah (all said with a very posh accent) to discus the merrets of keeping ACC as it is - possibly with some changes to keep it from being abused, rather than privatizing it. Its always fun shocking people in black leathers etc (and acc protest t shirt of course) then them finding your actually a reasonable person (ahhh social stigmas - have to bleed them for all there worth)

I agree, that sounds absolutely divine. I'm wondering if it is a black tie affair? I gratiously accept the offer and look forward to delightful canapes.
Does one thnk it may be BYO? I may have to fill a bottle with Urine if needed.

I'm in too.
Can we get an action plan? Nothing fancy but I think it would be better if we all (or most of us) arrive in group rather than one at a time.
One more thing - looking at the link it doesn't clearly mention that this event is open to the public.
just to state my position clearly: I'm all in for this but the location being private property, if this event is not actually open to the public of if the house owner asks us to leave (it's his property so he can do that) i'm not in for any vandalism or any of the sort, because I believe this would do more harm than help our cause.

The calendar link on the parties web site says
<table class="form" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr class="row1"><td>Venue</td> <td>Ballance Residence</td> </tr> <tr class="row2"> <td>Address</td> <td> 68 Calcutta St
Khandallah </td> </tr> <tr class="row1"> <td>Attendance</td> <td>General Public</td></tr></tbody></table>
and although it may be a bit ambiguous if attendance = general public I would infer it is open to us as generals public.

Our aim is to make our presence felt and to keep Johnboy on his toes right ?
Like - we are not going to roll over and let things lie.
We're not aiming to carry out any such antics such as deliberately sabotaging the event by taking up all the parks unecessarily are we ?
I think a polite, rational and well reasoned chat about the ACC situation with John and some of the attendees should be our goal, lest we get trespassed and make ourselves look bad.
Yes/No ?

I am all for turning up on the bike, leathers and t shirts, but being able to mingle, say gidday, have a drink, and talk intelligently about the subject of ACC being torn out from under every New Zealander.
so thats a Yes vote from me to Deano's post above.
My new catch phrase - if ACC goes from NZ, then welcome to another little America, right here down under. the thin edge of the wedge alright.

It was discussed on TRTNR so potentially a dozen of us. But we will leave duckpond at 6.30pm and head there via some back roads. Should be there by 7.30-8.00pm ish.

Yes I'm definitely for this.
So is someone going to email an RSVP to make our attendance official? Less chance of us being denied entry if we've notified them we're coming I reckon.

Remember - there is now an anti-cruising law. This means that you ride in that street the police might prick up and decide that you were cruising!

If everyone, in their pocket, had a note saying that they were invited to the address to protest the ACC levies. Note made by someone like the "Reduce ACC levies lobby group". Then they would not be cruising but going to a meeting.

I have said this elsewhere on KB and I will say it again... I used to flat with one of JK's press secretary's they are signed up to every forum imaginable, including this one. Sometimes they just have "friends" watching and reporting on forums for them.
I am willing to take a bet that they saw our intention of showing up and decided to stop us.

It's a public road and I am sure there will be motorcycles lawfully parked having a chat on it from 5pm onwards. Come and have a bit of a catch up with us.

yeah well - starting out as a clearly public meeting, then closing the doors, it smells of something.
not sure on this one, turn up and wander in, if turned away then hell i dont know. i'm not big on making too much of a fuss but was looking forward to trying to talk to some of these people about ACC, what it stands for what it means, what it was set up for in the first place, trying to get them to see the damage to all NZ and not just us bikers.
*unsure as to where too from here*

The correct response is to spit out a quick press release to the usual suspects in the media: "Nats, scared of peaceful biker protest, close public meeting". Something along those lines.
