alright guys, throw all the comments/goods, bads. and any other stuff/experiences in here!

here i go... It was GREAT! to say the least, thats the first time ive ever riden those roads (apart from small bit to paeroa) infact the first time ive riden a motorcycle more then 100km in a day, let alone over all those roads i didnt know existed!! just amazing... i honestly say i didnt know there were roads like those ones comnig down into coromandel itself. Id like to say thanks to Spankme for the site (i hope many of you donated what u could) and thanks to the guys on the 250's for coming along and keeping up Really well for what i *thought* they were, and basically thanks to all of you for making the day what it was... the highlight of my day (bikewise) was 130wide on his 1984 Kawasaki GPz750E1... not just hte bike itself.. but watching it literally FLY psased, go fully horozontal into a corner right around the outside of me and others... bloody amazing bike and rider, but just take it easy 130wide, id hate to see anything happen to that bike.

Awesome stops and food, and damn mah mate is working tomorrow so sorry MikeL etc about the ride to Port waikato, will go on our own short as auckland motorway :( ride after 4pm...

You guys all rock! great to see everyone with a common interest get along so well.

To those who also took photos, upload them to the above category so we can all have a look at them. Too bad I can't take photos while riding.

Bloody hot day. Burnt my head again. :o Must remember to start taking a hat.

hey Logan, yeah great ride mate:2thumbsup , neat to meet some more kb's and match faces with names, also good no mishaps, other than a rougue chain off, :angry2:
130 wide ,cool to meet you mate, nice bike, do that pm thingy b4 you come to woodhill, and I'll sort it for you.
Pretty sure I can convince Andrew to pop down to Whakatane for a Latte, so once he's finished his exams, it should be on.
Oh and BTW Mike L, I hope you are not trying to imply that I would throw a "Sicky" to go riding, that would be setting a bad example to others surely:o :o :o :o .

It was wicked. A good fun ride at a good pace - and I only made it for half of it it :( Next time I'll make sure I haven't got a job scheduled for the same day...
Can't wait for the next one!

Andrew
2nd November 2003, 12:53
What an awesome day! The weather was great, the company was great and the pace was fresh.

It was also a good learning curve for me and my 250. If i get stuck behind a car on the twisties, I can't overtake it too easily mainly because there was no instant torque on tap, but i had a great time going along at my own pace.

The only mishap to the day for me was the chain jumping off the rear sprocket. Luckily the chain got back on with the help from BabyB, Doc, and Bigdog - Thanks Guys. I'm investigating a new chain and sprockets as we speak. :)

Oh and also thanks to Firefight for accompanying me to the motorway and the lending me his moto-x boots. Sadly i didn't manage to get any pics of Asian tourists, but we'll do that on a Taupo, or Whakatane ride!!

Somebody said to me that i was really lucky that i wasn't hurt when my chain came off. He said that I better rush home and buy a lotto ticket. Well funny enough my brother managed to sell my RGV150 that afternoon, cash exchanged bike gone!!

In conclusion, great day, great food, still single, $1500 richer. Oh and the pics i took will go up on Monday. :)

2nd November 2003, 13:27
Well done Andrew. It was your lucky day!
Count me in for a Taupo ride if it's on a weekend (or weekday after 28 Nov). And Whakatane sounds good, too. From what I remember the road from Tauranga to Whakatane is pretty good. We can avoid the earlier boring bits by going via Whangamata and Waihi... :niceone:

Awesome ride, good to see everyone had a good time and good to meet everyone. Shit that RSV can pull out of corners.
Also good to see some bikes two up and having a good time.

Firefigther thanx for the stand matches the KDX just right, I'll try and sort out a road ride this way.

Well, didnt get there but decided to do a quick run over the Rimutakas to Featherston today. Wind, about 90 friggin knots from every direction. - almost took the front wheel from under me on three corners in violent gusts as well as a following gust trying to blow me into a cliff face on a downhill tight right hander:eek:

I had a great time although I'm wondering if my riding technique needs some adjustment. My habit of lifting my butt over the seat to lean off for all but the more gentle corners has left my thighs in some serious pain! I know i'm an an unfit bugger at the moment but do other people have this happen to them as well? How about Motoracer?? Dude, you looked like you were attacking every corner as though it was your last! do you suffer pain or are you fit?

Anyway... had a great time, went home tired, sore and very happy.

ROLL ON THURSDAY!! :2thumbsup:

i fully agree about motoracers riding coldkiwi...i noticed him getting off EVERY SINGLE corner sorta thing.. which i thought was very enthusiastic at first... and was doing myself.. but after about the first 10 corners i was already feeling like i could easily give-up this technique... was really amazing to see even that last bit b4 te irriangi drive he was still keen as mustard working those legs!! i was long shot... And just yesterday i rode to friggin Kerikeri 2up, then rode back alone.. thats 1100km i coverd over sat/sun.. the most ive ever done before and i am feeling sooo snotted in the legs and right shoulder... finally udnerstanding what some of you olderones talk about... and im only 18 with aches and pains after 2 ddays riding :(

A great ride all round even for the grannies like me:rockon:. The cyclists and hence slow traffic made the ride that much more interesting. I have never been around there but i think i might end up going to botany from howick via the coromandel one day. Meet heaps of great people cheers for the experience i really gotta work on my cornering though, soooooo slow in but ok out. :2thumbsup :2thumbsup Thanks again to all involved it was heaps of fun:done: :done:

3rd November 2003, 13:07
Hahhaha, yea thats the 3rd person to say that about my hanging off riding style. Yes, I have been going for runs so I wasn't in pain or anything. I was a little tired when I got home but thats the usual. I guess thats just the way I ride. if I don't do that, I don't seem to make the bike steer properly.

Saturday was my first proper ride after a long long time so I wasn't in my usual riding form. Once I can get down low enough, I just rest some weight on the scraping knee and hang on to the bike with the other leg, feels pretty comfertable and I am able to go through the corners the fastest this way (I reckon I am putting some weight off the bike and directly on to the ground when scraping the knee, makeing bike lighter through the corners).

Motoracer
3rd November 2003, 13:36
That might sound silly to the pros out there. If I am not up to speed when I start racing, I might have to change/adapt to a differnt or "better" style as I go along. Currently its working for my road riding.

Shame I don't have the corner speed to match the exit...then you wouldn't have whizzed past me:D All I need to do is learn to corner reasonably through the really tight stuff as well.

Great day out. Thighs back and neck still suffering, right wrist iced to take down the swelling.(no not from an after ride wank).

There's an AMCC ride organised next week end for any interetsed.

CK, what's this getting a new bike??? How come this hasn't been posted about before did I miss it? chortle

RSV rear tyre is hardly marked...that's touring rubber for you....but then neither is the front and that's a sport...just don't ride hard enough.

Ride is Sunday 9th Huna falls and dam visit with fish and chips at kaiaua after (you can pay). Meet is Drury services 9:30.

Perhaps he meant the Bombay Services???

Thanks to everyone that came out for the ride - I had a fantastic day. :D I couldn't believe it when the Auckland crew finally arrived! I think I heard someone say there were 19 bikes, is that right? :gob:

A beautiful day, lovely roads, and great company. The classic cars, and wonderful new seal on the Coromandel Hill were definitely highlights (that tarmac was less than 6 months old last time I rode it, and falling all to pieces). :)

And despite the fact that I supplied Spankme with sunblock for his bald noggin (too late though, unfortunately) I got home to find the back of my neck was rather red & my arms were on the pink side too. :o

Si - I am eternally grateful that you've got a fantastic sense of humour. And you're a lot quicker on your feet than I could have imagined! :shit: ;)

I was barely able to operate the clutch by the time we were halfway from Coromandel to Thames, and it got worse on the way home. I had to resort to using my whole hand to move the lever into the bar, because I had no grip strength left at all. :) I know you boys could probably suggest an exercise for forearm strength that comes naturally to you, but any other useful suggestions for me? The pain up my arm & into my elbow was excruciating.

It was a relief to find that we were all comfortable riding at our own pace. Truly. It's one of the reasons I ride on my own most of the time. It was a pleasure to ride with a group of people so happy to do their own thing within the ride, and a surprise on a couple of occasions to find bigger bikes sitting behind me, but quite happy to remain there, despite several attempts on my part to give them room to pass & get on their way. Kinda nice to have someone "covering your back" without any pressure on me to go faster. :) I look forward to the next time I get a chance to join another rideout with you lot. :)

Do you go to a gym, Slim?
Do some dead lifts and reverse bicep curls. The dead lifts strengthen your back and takes the weight off your arms when riding. The curls will strengthen your forearms and make you look like Popeye.

Slim, lucky for you I was a little sluggish that day:D

2 ideas for helping your left hand clutch thingy.

1. Don't use the clutch for upshifts

2.Get a short piece of broomhandle, put some cord through the middle of the wood halfway along and attach a 5-10kg weight. Then just hold the wood and turn it till the weight is wound to the top and then lower it. Just build up the weight and the reps to strengthen your grip and forearm strength.

CK Drury services are the services reached from the southband motorway near drury, before you get to Bombay services.

TTFN

Motoracer
5th November 2003, 10:13
Or another more simple yet fun way of strengthening your forearms would be going on these big rides more often

You'll notice that if you do the same roads this weekend its not going to hurt as much if at all. The human body adapts to changes quite fast. Once your mussels heal they should already be much stronger than before.

bluninja
5th November 2003, 11:23
It's alright for you scrawny people to say that!:D Went to the gym for an easy session last night did some work on my legs for moving around on the bike....squats with 210 kgs, abductor and inductor on 165kgs, chest press on 165kgs just to simulate the sort of forces I experience on the bike....then I woke up and I was just floating in the spa pool :2thumbsup :2thumbsup

BBQ at BluNinjas after the next ride!!!!! :D

I have did used to do the exercise you detailed while I was attending the gym, for specifically the same reason. I've got a broom - what can I tie to it for a weight???

Motoracer - I had actually thought your suggestion might suffice. Decisions, decisions.

holly fuck, you'r a strong man!.:gob: You could probably do Squats with the RSVR if you got a good enough grip around it!!

No matter, I've still got the advantage around the tight stuff :D

Ok, if I can figure out what drury services means, I'll be there. Failing that I'll just go for a fang myself. My dad has conveniently left his phone charger in Whangamata last weekend so I have volunteered to go fetch it on sunday (via Waipu of course!)

Anyone else interested?

(BTW, my legs are still sore! the thought of even doing any sort of squating - bugger the weights- makes them hurt!)

If those squats were to parallel and the chest press was a bench with a free bar then *respect*, bro. I never squatted past 160... but then I never loaded the bar up to 240 and wiggled my knees up and down so that I could call it a 'squat' to impress the girls, either <_< (and don't gimme none-a dem smith machines :angry2: )

Slim, just get an empty 5 litre milk container and fill it with water and stick the cord through the handle. Hey presto 5kg weight.

Sorry the spa pool is at the gym...and I don't do free weights...takes too long to set up, then you need someone to spot for you. In judo I can manage to pick up guys as heavy as 140kgs and throw them about and unlike free weights they move a lot. This of course is all off topic:Offtopic:

It's all relative. on a machine I used to do 360kg's but free squats your only looking at 180kgs because of the need to "stabilise".

The advantage to machines is supposed to isolate.

Try Yang balls. I used to use them for the same reason. They also give you better finger dexterity.

When you can do them for ten minutes constantly get bigger balls.

Also good for carpal tunnel and rsi.

I have a broom (that doesn't get used very often) and a milk container at home, so all I need now is some rope.....
