:weep:

my day is getting worse. After loosing my gloves in town today (sat down somewhere and must have dropped them)

To cut a long story short..... Stop sign at the top of a steep hill. I stop, look right (I was going left) stopped longer than I should have because of sun strike in my face, bike starts to lean a little, I go to put my left foot down, not realising the road was on quite a camber and my foot landed much lower than anticipated..... damn, bike went down, I went down. fuck I feel like such a dufus. It was quite a steep camber, so much so that the wheels are quite far off the ground. I try getting my baby back upright but shes just too heavy. I'm straining and giving myself a hernia trying to get her back up before anyone sees me
Car full of Asians pulls up "are you ok are you ok!"" guys jumps out and helps me lift my bike back upright. Big thanks from me.
mirror bent, and a few minor scratches. Nothin major. Wouldnt go into gear properly. Gear lever bent. Bent it back into shape on the side of the road and working fine now.
Oh I feel like a knob end. :spanking:

You are not a knob end, you ride a motorcycle. Anyone can get caught like that, you want to try attempting to put your foot down in a curbed culvert! You go to ground fairly fast too! Wet leaves, tiny, tiny pebbles, off camber, short legs....

Pisses you off though. Pity your mates were not around, they would have laughed like drain pipes

Glad to hear the bike is ok!

The joy and pain of two wheel ownership :pinch: We all know that winching moment when it occurs  either to ourselves or see it happen to another biker ...

And as you know, it could have always been worse! :sweatdrop

Winching ????

Don't sweat it. That shit happens now and then. Especially if you have short legs.

Stupid bikes. They need little legs to pop out to support it at moments like that.

And if it makes you feel any better, a knob end is very useful - it stops your hand sliding off the shaft .........

you'll have to think of a better story to tell your mates if they ask what happened to it though :P

either that or claim the previous owner did it, trademe style

Hey man don't feel bad. I managed to not only drop my bike while cleaning it (rolled forward off the side stand), but also pin my foot under it in a way which made it practically impossible to lift without assistance. I pulled a calf muscle trying to let it down softly

Well howbout this ... in a carpark today just practicing some emergency braking and whatever, been riding around for about an hour so I come to a stop. In neutral, turn off, and start adjusting my mirrors. Next thing I know bike is on the ground with me still on it.

No idea how it happened, really can't remember what I did. I was just sitting there... perfectly level surface.

I hit a carport pole with my handlebar and dropped it...... In front of 2 of my friends waiting for me to go for a ride. Few years ago now.

Bad luck...but happens to most sometime.

I put my foot down on smooth and level concrete with nice pebbly surface....that was covered with mossy slime....the damage to the bike was almost as bad as the groin strain from doing the splits...

I like the post of a guy a while back who left a crowded party, headed out to his bike, hoped on then lost his balance and fell to one side. He got trapped between the bike and a fence. Try as he could he couldn't get the bike off. He mentions struggling with the decision do I call for help and have the whole party come out or do I wait for someone to leave and hope they don't call the party out.

He called for help and the whole party came out.

He then wheeled the bike back and thought rather than make an ass of himself he'd put it on the centrestand, jump on start and ride off. So he starts then rocks forward and the bike doesn't come off the stand, so with the crowd watching he rocks forward again nothing... he proceeds to continue the routine looking like a kid on a rocking horse before dismounting and getting the bike of the centrestand. He realised at this point he was on a slight incline.

If I could find the post I'd post it up. The guy had a few more mishaps before riding off.

______________

A friend of mine rode up outside a pub on a summers day with everyone outside. He decides to do the cool flick the sidestand down and dismount walking away from the bike as it drops onto the stand. As he's walking aaway he doesn't realise the stand had popped back up. The bike falls and takes him out pinning his lower legs.

He comments he saw a rainbow in the shower of beer that shot from patrons mouths as they burst out laughing.

______________

I've been behind a rider who stopped for lights. They misjudged the camber and started to fall. I was able to kill my bike, throw the stand down, dismount and run forward and catch her bike before it hit the deck. I helped her get upright. She was in shock and just wanted to hop off and gather her composure. Sadly the light had just turned green and the plonker in the car behind was tooting his horn. I told her I'd be behind her till she got going and to take her time. He can wait. She rode off gingerly and got it together. It seems an "L" plate, and almost falling off are no reason for not proceeding immediately on a green.

Everyone does a bin that they feel embarassed about when learning to ride. So you've now joined the club!

When lifting you bike try turning around, so your back is facing the bike, crouch down, grab the nearest handle bar and pull it tight towards you (so it is on full steering lock), and then grab the other end of the bike with your remaining hand, and then lift the bike with your legs (aka, just stand up).

I've seen this happen but between two other bikes! The other bikers could get off otherwise it might start a chain reaction and tip the whole line of bikes over. Luckily another biker ran over and came to the rescue.

There's a vid somewhere that show's this method. Someone posted a link to it a couple of months ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Geez, how buff would you have to be to bench press a ZX10?

if that was the requirement i'd be riding mountain bikes!!!

Ok, I will come clean admit this is my second offence. The first time I dropped my bike I was on my old 250. The front brake didnt work and, I thought "she'll be right, I can ride without it"
Hows this for being a muppet, I had to back the bike down a sloping driveway to turn around..... without a front break!!!??? I was trying to balance myself as carefully as possible with one foot on the back brake......... not really a good idea, eventually I had to use both feet and the bike starts picking up speed going backwards. I had to drop it just to stop it from getting away from me.

I dropped my Moto X bike, on the driveway awhile back, yeah its a MotoX bike I know and is used to being dropped.
Its the manner in which it happened.
The KDX200 has a high seat anyway, decided on our steep driveway to roll backwards down the drive and decided to swing back around and take off forward just like a cool dude, as you guessed it the neighbours were all watching my cool manouvre.
Instead of leaning into the incline the bike sort went vertical and I started to fall the wrong way. Like I needed a leg about 2 metres long to hold it up, got huge lean going fast my leg eventually landing about 2 metres away from where the bike was. Shit did I go down fast and hard, managed to roll away form the dropping bike.
I learnt my lesson, I felt a real dork.
I am very careful now especially on inclines , I'd hate to drop the road bike that way.
A friend told me they dropped their big Triumph Rocket the same way but trying to do a slow U turn on a steep street.
Yeah dont feel alone on this one, we will all do it sometime, then never again.

 That must of looked funny? a real Benny hill moment (for those can remember him)
Both my drops have been stationary drops, one was the classic 'I thought the side stand was down'. The other was more of a lay down really, just got outta sorts and of balance at the top of a rather step driveway, brainfart moment and not a minty in sight!

i've not dropped my bike yet, but a little while ago i had just filled up with gas and was riding across the forecourt towards the road. this particular gas station has a kind of raised footpath thing around the outside of the store itself, about 8 or 10 inches high. dunno why. one corner of it juts right out...

so there was me, riding along, looking out towards the road checking for traffic in the direction i want to go. eyes flick back to in front of me, only to see im closing rapidly with said jutting bit of path. managed to keep from plowing into it with the front wheel with an ungainly wobble, but i still collected it on the bottom fairing hard enough to bounce the back of the bike up and over.

could just about feel a forecourt full of eyes turning in my direction, so i shook my head and took off without looking back! haha.

Ehheheheh love all the stories.

My most damaging drop was turning around on a really steep street, and dropped it on the downhill side. I can usually pick my bike up myself but I needed help with that one. Snapped the rear brake lever off

Most embarrassing one was hitting a wing mirror while splitting and dropping my bike on someone's car. Ooops... by some stroke of luck though I never got any insurance bill or anything!

Oh man, where were you all the times I've dropped my bike?!

With my most recent drop (on the downhill, described above), I was trying to get it in full steering lock but it was making such a sickly "scccrrrrraaaaaaaape" :crybaby:
