Inspired by a comment of Woodman's, post pics of your's, or someone else's, ADV bike standing up on it's own.

I can play this one.

1) Halfway up the Rimutaka Pylon Access track
2) Fishers track
3) Start of the Sutherlands Hut track
4) Mangahao Dams
5) Jezza's 950 Adv S on Makairo Track

Only standing up on its own photo I can remember from my collection is back when I had my DR250R. Photo is at White Rock 1998.

I already posted it here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=528&d=1068321589 in this old thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=1190

Unfortunately I don't think I have a photo of it but the best one I left standing was my CBR1000F looking a lot like Mervs in a paddock out near Oxford or Cust area.
I took bad line across the paddock on the way to watch some trials guys do their thing.

Yeah Transalper its funny how those grassed areas look fine until you find out they are basically a bog underneath.

Hey, don't bend your back!

Ok, not really an ADV bike. We couldn't afford them.
But 2K got you an Ok 82 XR500R in the early 90's :)

We were up north and nicely heading around Poutu point....
The tide had gone out but it was still a tad soft! :argh:
I think we both went over the bars at different times.....
KTM 950's are heavy mothers when the front is down that far!
Worth doing again simply for the pukka factor...:)
and I ain't talking Jamie Oliver Pukka either....The other one.....:Oops:where are my spare undies....

:gob: Mark thats impressive deccellaration. Did the rear end kick round 90 degrees when the front dived deep? And do KTM 950's have sand shovels in their tool kits?

It just buried its head like an Ostrich, an orange one....
The owner of the said Ostrich was last seen picking himself up from about 35 feet away....:woohoo:
I think he was in third......so, it was moving at a fair rate of knots...
We dug it out with our hands, left right, left right....shook it and I laughed, he didn't...Was hard not to, because I had done it just a few moments before, but he missed my epic tumble!
Shovels, yes, they need them.....I hear most tanks of that vintage had them somewhere on the tracks or the running boards...
Oh, that was REAL tanks....

Pity it isn't in our fraternity anymore......;)
So, it didn't make it across the bamboo and native flora?

What is it with your beemers Eddie?? They seem very well balanced.

Think this has been here before, but I like it.

That pic is another Bart special.

Yes it did, the tree trunks were slippery and it just couldn't get traction, the rear wheel was just spinning up.

The black 800 would balance on it's centre stand with both wheels off the ground.

And 2 years ago I had never ridden any bike off road, so the 2 beemers have spent a lot of time on the wrong lines and in the wrong ruts these past 2 years while I figure it all out.

Yeah, I was being real helpful by laughing and taking photos, instead of actualy helping.

Buy a beemer and you don't need a stand.

BUT...:calm:for something that weighs...maybe 115kg or more, we leave to the gods! All of them.......:eek5:Hey I've done it on the DR-Z250 and it's more than 115kg!! You need lots of speed, and a shallow entry angle. It helps to lock the front wheel on entry and keep the power on to use the rear wheel as a paddle. Mind you, it's a bit scary hitting a large puddle at 80+ km/h knowing there are 30cm deep wheel ruts hiding underneath. But get it right and you do just skim across the top for quite some distance... about 10m ish. Despite repeated attempts (each lap) I never managed to get all the way across this particular puddle, but made it all the way to the shallows on the other side so barely slowed down. More speed may give a longer glide, but I wasn't game to go above mid-90s.

How did you know my weight?? Actually to skip across that pond with my weight and the bikes = about 300kgs I would have had to be going about 150 kph where in fact I was barely going walking pace.

Totara Park Trail Ride - 2 bikes overtake me & 1 rides straight into a big water erosion rut. I think he's OK his mate will help him out. I ride round the corner & into the same bloody rut. They ride past laughing

mangaore Dams - Eddie's already posted a photo of his PD in a mud wallow. He then turned it round & rode into the nearest waterhole to clean it.
