View Full Version : The ultimate loaner.......

Well as some of you know i have had a few issues with gearbox and on the rally a sprung a leak (only leaks at high speeds so probably just a worn gasket) But i go into the friendly guys at mt eden with a forelorn look on my face and ask if i can pleeeeeeaaaase have a loaner to get to work etc....

Right off the bat mike says okey dokey just check with ricky how long it's gonna be.. sweet as looks like a couple days to assess the bike so what can i take.

Well at first it looks like a cbx400 good enough bike and will get me to work. Uhoo chris has already lent it out bugger. So mike starts to have a mingle about the yard i think the scared look on my face when he suggested a dirtbike put him off that idea. Then came the mighty cb750.... Here i am thinking well not a sportsbike but certainly a powertrain to get me from a to b. But he didn't have a key or something about the ignition..... So that was it he made a decsion ..........................................

It was honestly the most frustrating ride home. think you can make a gap but it takes about a minute for the power to wind on :killingme :killingme :killingme. Also almost killed my dad cause he was laughing sooooo hard when i came home. That being said at least i have something to ride.

Cheers mike......................... just watch out for those laxitives in your coffee :killingme :killingme :killingme

Luckily when my GN250 had an electric fault, I was saved from the scooters. Due to the fact that Colemans -> Manukau is not exactly a scooter trip. Unless you want it to take an hour or two.

Early last year I had to take the Drake in to get his feathers unruffled. Well they gave me scooter to take home. So I says OK no problem. Well I'm riding down Colombo St and have to stop at some lights and caught sight of myself in the reflection of a shop window. So here I was all togged up and sitting on this pimple of a scooter. Shit did I look silly. Well the lights change to green and I take off and two harley riders come along side of me. No one says a thing but I can tell that one of them is about to take the piss out of me. So quick as a flash I says "Why don't ya get a real bike." He guns it foward and cuts me off. Not dangerous like but just giving me the message. They just have no sense of humour.

Been looking for that bike for some time.

Luckily wasn't wearing leather. Just the usual synthetic jacket jeans riding boots helmet gloves etc.... still probably looked like a toss. Had a guy on a 250 laugh at me......... gonna find him when i get the 600 back and see how much he laughs when i pass him on the back wheel................ :devil2:

Sorry, but I have a very good imagination, and even tho you weren't in a leather one piece, it made it even more funny imagining a full set of gear on a scooter. Just about choked while laughing.

Better safe than sorry as for the gear. Maybe Mt eden was taking the piss and didn't believe you would actually ride off on it...

Gremlin

*moves quickly to cover own ass*

I don't know about others, but I am not calling it anything like that. Its just that your average scooter person wears skirts/shorts and t-shirts. Hardcore bikers such as ourselves (can I be included? pretty pleease?) spend money on gear to protect ourselves because of the possibility of binning - which is kinda related to the *sensible* speed we are doing.

Scooters are not equal (need a "not equal" - ooh !=) to racing machines. So seeing one piece leathers (in my picture) on a scooter is hilarious. Like that ad where two scooter kids pull up next to the bikers on their hogs etc.

Its funny. And it takes more muscles to frown than smile. :D

Too right! What I hate about the smaller scooters - the machines themselves - is their low power, low visibility and pissy-little wheels. I don't think they're safe to ride so I'd be inclined to wear full gear while riding one, as well. I wear full gear on bigger, faster - but better appointed - bikes, and I feel "safe" on them, so I'd certainly wear full gear on something I don't feel safe on.

Occasionally I felt unsafe on my big, heavy Zundapp and Puch - when I was at the maximum wind on the throttle or when hitting sixty miles per hour downhill on the (relatively) small wheels and getting "speed wobbles" - and I class them as better appointed and "safer" than most of the 50cc scooters I've seen.

Casbolts In ChCh give you a CG125 if you're daft enough to ask them for a loan bike. To rub salt into the wounds some focker has stuck Ducati 999 decals on it.
I even had a couple of forkin teenagers race me from a set of lights when I borrowed it once, and they won, on foot. Arse biscuits.

Thats a good idea. Would probably want to spray some chain oil on the rear to get it sliding though.

When do you have to give it back aff-man? I reckon it's just the thing for some off roading. :shifty:

Some mud and cow poo baked to the exhaust would make them think twice about giving you something with less that 100hp and a 180 rear. :devil2:

Unfortunatley it went back today. They wern't going to get round to looking at my bike this week (due to mechanics taking days off for thier kids holidays) so i went and got the 600 back cause i need to do a bit of errands this weekend..... So it goes back on monday and we'll see what i get next time   :killingme :killingme :killingme

P.s. F%##%King woman drivers. Was taking the scoot back and well she just pulled out right into me. I swerved and the left handelbar was over her bonnet and i am sure i felt my pants brush her bumper. If it was the cibber she would have cleaned me out... or i would have enough power to get out the way......

P.s. thinking of getting a cheeeeap scoot for offroading stunts now :devil2: :devil2:

well here is how the last 2 weeks have been
2 weeks ago from this coming tuesday i take it in.... and they give me a scooter..... then i go back on thursday cause i needed my bike for last weekend (even though i didn't ride it at all i might have needed it) then go back monday and ricky is sick so take it in tuesday and they give me a cbx400f.... and say they'll know by friday.. call them yesterday and it's next in line so first thing monday....

oh and the cbx is a mighty beast. It gets that whole oscillating bucking horse motion in corners which is a little unsettling. Also i start her up yesterday morning and the end of the exhorst fell off and the baffle came out. Luckily i was at home and it was a quick fix....

That being said it is quite fun to ride might ask mike how much he will part with it for :killingme :killingme

Just not a touch on the six hundy eh? Lucky you got the Honda as a loaner bike as opposed to the Zooki by the sounds of things.
Took the Mrs bike to town today for some new feet, and the chain felt odd so that I thought to myself I must tighten it up. The mechanic says later on you realise the chain and sprockets are bout stuffed. (Rolley eyes and moan to myself) No I didn't. Anyway I picked up the bike later with the drivetrain parts ordered and went to scrub the tyres in so that they did not not have big wide chicken strips like the old ones :killingme Anyhow, when I lay the bike into corners esp with a bit of gas on and the thing was shuddering like crazy! cheeky young punk! its getting lovingly carted into town everyday thank you very much. As for squaring the tyres, the most risk that rear tyre is at is when I go for a hard thrash and open the gas on the way out of corners! I spent that last ride out to coro reminding myself to go easy on the exits to STOP it getting flattened.
