We all chat on Kiwibiker with out alias's etc....
We all PM each other and say hello, we also have a great rappor and have fun.
There are occasions where we meet, ride, drink coffee and shoot the shit!
The thing is, on the odd occasion we all meet and have a really great ride or be it a weekend get together, I feel it would be good to try and introduce each other with our Kiwibiker name on out helmet or bike or both if you want to....
Dakar riders have the blood group on the helmet and sometimes on the bike as well as the name, so why can't we?

What we need is some nice person to have access to that decal cutting thingy machine, advertise this and maybe it will take off? I for one would be keen yo have NZKTM and A+ on my helmet and bike....
It would help identify me on group rides and act as bit of an ice-breaker too for new riders and those www stragers we keep chatting to! :)

What do you guys think? I think it could be cool, we are already members of an exclusive club..ADV has decals, we can have identities too, plus the extra bonus, blood type! :)

Yeah great idea. I used to use my wifes NZ Blood Collection key ring because it's red and easy to find if I drop it until it was pointed out to me that it has HER blood type on it :oi-grr:

The idea is we ALL have the same I.D. The kwibiker name, the blood type on the helmet, ot the bike somewhere....
It will identify us on group rides and if anythinf untoward happens...?
There are occasions where we don't always know the real name of our fellow rider....(been there done that on the biggies)
It happens.
This will help the cause....I am sure..
We just need the support and a clever sign writer with a motorbike belonging to Kiwibiker....:)

I wouldn't worry about blood type - the hospital is going to give you Oneg until they have typed and crossed you themselves anyway. I like the idea of KB names though - it's always hard to track real names against who you actually talk to on KB. How can we ensure that the adhesive on any decals is helmet compatible?

Thanks...I am sure that if it happened.....The Blood type on your helmet might stand for something like a 'Medic Alert' bracelet? I don't know....But coming from an Emergency Services background the information may be a great startting point. Why would you fake a blood type on your helmet?

As for the adhesive quality? I have had and still have a few good quality decals on my helmet and they would have no issue staying there with no apparent damge to your helmet.....
You ain't gonna change blood type are ya? :)
Vampires amongst us......
The sort of decals I am thinking of are vinyl, easy to put on and take of, leave no residue, and are cheap.....
Fore instance, a name, blood type may be just $10-12....easy..

Maybe two sizes, one for the helmet across the back or on the side. Then maybe the bike somewhere? No real options, primarily helmet and maybe front guard or tank?

Why would you want to put it there anyway? Heaven forbid you ever get damaged enough to require any kind of blood transfusion, but frankly no doctor in their right mind is going to take one look at your helmet and say "give him 2 units of B- stat!"

KB handle yes, blood type NO.

maybe list it in ya phone if ya wish "ICE blood type" but still it wouldnt realy matter. ...... but if you have a rare/strange grouping ya should be carrying/ wearing something anyway.

Well, if the blood type is a bit rare or there are issues, surely this might help the process. I for one am A rHcess + Might this help? I don't know, other than the services have a guidance to start?
If blood type is not good how is it that the years of Dakar has helped the riders and medics? With it identified on entry forms etc?

Yup. That was my point above. In the Dakar it is a known standard. In the "normal" world I doubt it would even be noticed let alone acted on.

@NZKTM My point with the adhesive was not that it might come off, but that everyone says don't stick stickers on (or paint) your helmet. They can cause invisible weakening of the polycarbonate shell. That is to say, the weakening would not be noted until you were in an accident and needed the full strength of your helmet. It is also my understanding that fibreglass helmets are immune to this issue. Google should tell you more...

If I was in an accident that needed the 'full strength' of my helmet, I might need the details still 'adhered' to my lid? perhaps? Blood type....maybe?

Well is a great idea... blood group on the back of your helmet..
the only thing i think about is we know its there.. but are the ambo drivers going to look on your helmet... it needs to be a standard thing were all bikers may chose to do this....

Because in the Dakar it is an established process. It is tested. It is noted on the entry form. It is emblazoned across you helmet. On the road this isn't the case. If it were noticed at all, the doctors would still give you O-neg until the lab type and cross returned. The reason being, if they kill you by giving you B-pos - standing in front of the medical council and saying "but I noticed on his helmet" isn't really going to cut it. Maybe you borrowed the helmet etc. The Dakar is a different proposition - the conditions are much more controlled and the are established rules and procedures. That said - you not going to hurt anyone by sticking your blood type on your helmet either. It's just not going to be a useful as you think.

Yes you are right. It would need to be standardised. The reality is though, there is little point in pursuing this as if you need blood in an emergency setting you will be given O negative. You will the be "typed and cross-matched" before type specific blood products are administered.

Great idea, I can't help but think the Meds wouldn't take notice of it on your lid anyway in case you had borrowed someone elses helmet etc.. just in unusual cirmcumstances it would come back to bite...but that is Murphy.

My Hat!

For me in WDW2007 in Missano Italy in a crowd of 50000 people I was spotted by an ex pat kiwi living in France, he was from the Ducati Forum and knew we were going the event, he gave us information that transformed our holiday into the best event EVER in our lives so to me the little bit of identification made literally the world of difference.

I have a coupla T shirts as well with Wanaka Motorcycle Club on the front and MONSTAMAN across the back on the top, surprising who comes up and says gidday .... thankfully no one has shot at me .. yet

I have mine (blood type) on the inside of my jacket lineing. Same deal. No one would believe it.

Best idea would be to write it on your drivers licence (or perhaps on a removable sticker, so you don't get done for defaceing it). At some stage they are going to confirm your ID.

They'll still blood type you first. There have been cases of "imports" using their relations' ID to get free medical care... potential for some serious trouble there.

If I remember my 6th form Human Bio correctly (it was called "6th form" before they decided to call it "Year 12") O Neg blood can be given to anyone but any other blood has to match or it will clott pretty much instantly so I wouldn't expect any emergency Doctor giving blood without checking it is the right stuff.

No idea on what they would cost to produce, but if they were priced in the order of $10 each I'd be interested in a vinyl type sticky with the KB logo and my user name, perhaps one each for the bike and my helmet.

blood type would be a good thing to have on a drivers license i think. most people involved in a wreck will have their license on them, and that can only belong to that person [photo id] while helmets, bikes, other gear, can be borrowed.

No. You would need to establish a procedure. Alter the license designs. It would cost a LOT of money just to get those things done. People would need blood tests. You would need a reliable way of providing that information to the LTSA. In would need to be stored. There would need to be crosschecks to ensure the data was entered correctly. All in all, heaps of money to solve a problem that doesn't need to be solved. Because, funnily enough, you will be given O neg initially. They will draw blood to test for a variety of things - acidosis, alkalosis, crush injury, clotting factors........... They will type and cross-match at the same time. Type being a/b/o-+ and cross-match looking for a myriad of other "factors" that are now known to be important when giving quantities of whole blood (or transplanting organs etc.).
