Maybe its cause I am being boring and sitting at home rather than in a shipping container in the middle of the ocean but I have had it with the brilliant network that is XT!
Is Anyone else in Wgtn having any issues with making and receiving phone calls today? I rang the help desk about an hour ago and was told it was going to be fixed in 20mins. Have reset ph a few times since and still no go. Anyone else?

Its fucken shitty. I rang there 0800 number from my work 027 and was on the phone to them for 20 mins. I got asked the same details by 4 different people and finally found out that the network had gone down in Chch last night and while they were resetting it we would continue to face theses issues. When I asked one of them what compensation they were going to give there customers he said, "nothing". When I said can I change back to the other network he said, "no". Im loving the customer service!

There was a wee news article awhile ago slamming the XT Network thingie. Saying "it has failed to live up to its hype". No suprises there!!! IT's TELESCUM!!

"Calls from my new XT phone to both cellphone and landline sound like I'm in a barrel, echoey. Been three weeks and still no cure . . . best system in the world???" one user complained. But Telecom is defending the performance of its network, which it has heavily promoted using popular Top Gear star Richard Hammond, saying it has had 90,000 customers sign up in the first month of operation, and only a few of those have experienced any problems.

Spokesman Nick Brown said it was inevitable a few minor problems would occur when a new network was introduced, but no widespread issues had been reported and Telecom's call centre had recorded few complaints

That was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in July!!

Nope, I get zero coverage. Not a fuckin sausage. XT phone sat in drawer and back on CDMA network. Gawd knows what I'll do when they take that off line or when my ancient phone finally dies.

Interestingly enough Vodafone finally has managed to get my signal up to 2/5 bars though.

I worked at one of the Telecom dealerships - Leading Edge Communications in Taupo - for the past 6 months. I started a couple of days before the XT network was launched. And I tell you what, if I had known what I was going to be in for, I'd have stayed on the freakin' dole.

From what I hear the network is crap compared to Vodafones and even the original Telecom network, especially around the Taupo area. The main brand of handsets they were pushing (Telecom R6, R7, R90) were complete and utter crap with piss poor reception and extremely poor functionality. Just about everyone who bought them ended up hating them.

We had to deal with sooo much crap as a result and the last 6 months have been a farking nightmare for me in terms of stress as you are supposed to hit these sales targets while trying to support a network with a range of products that more often than not seem to come up short. Fortunately for me I found another job. I was supposed to finish up on Saturday next week but I asked them to push my resignation notice forward as I'd just had enough.

So glad to be out of there. The XT network is not my problem anymore.

However I was able to save up for my SV650, so it's not all bad.

F U C K E R S ! !

Now that my work phone is XT too I cant use either of my fucken cell phones. Telecom just sent this to our work:

Good afternoon

Telecom have advised that some Telecom XT customers, especially those in Wellington, may be experiencing issues with making and receiving phone calls, sending and receiving SMS messages and other XT services. Alcatel/Lucent engineers are currently working to resolve this issue at the highest priority, however at present they cannot provide an estimated time of restoration for this issue.

Until this issue is resolved, calls and SMS to and from Telecom phones may not be received.

Unfortunately tell-lie-con send the profits from NZ overseas, instead of investing in infrastructure...

Hey, I'm no proponent of telecom's but seriously, they just invested billions in a new network (the effectiveness of which i will not enter into debate)
I"m pretty sure voda NZ is probably owned by overseas as well.. not sure though, happy to be proven wrong.

I did last year (well my people did) after just a few days with the New XT Network they were told very directly that they will take back the free Phone they gave me, they will send a courier bag to on-send it, they will connect my previous phone within the hour, and all at no cost to me.

I rang them yesterday to so see how much it'd cost to break my contract. The guy said to me "oh, its alot of money, you'd be best not cancelling it". I asked how much and he replied $200. I told him that I didnt think that was too much considering the fact that I can never rely on the fact that my phone will be working if I get into any trouble or blow my bike up in the middle of nowhere....

Think I will just cancel it and pay the bill off at $20 a month. I am pretty sure that I am going to sign up with 2degree mobile.

I'd be challenging that fairly vigorously. How can they charge you for not keeping their part of the bargain? A contract has to work both ways and they are not providing a service they said they would. Consumer Guarntees Act and all that; the service they said they would provide hasn't materialised. You need to be more assertive and maybe also call Citizens Advice or look at the act online or summat. Either way, Telecom are not coming through and should release you from the contract. If you get a negative response from the dweeb on the phone ask for their supervisor, work your way up until you get satisfaction. They play on the fact that most folk simply give up and stick it out, waiting for service to resume. Don't fold, go hard.

Yup! We switched everything to Telecom in Oct last year as no-ne else could offer the deal we got for all business lines, (3), and four cellphones, (free including an HTC Snap), plus the enticements to switch. While I'm with TelstraClear at home and no-one can beat my deal with them, - cellphone $20mth, 500 txt/pxt and 29c/min to any landline or mobile and of course the phone was free - they couldn't do as well for the business. However since Oct I have been on the phone to them at least twice a month to correct errors, last month they credited us about half the billl and I'm aboutto call them again now to correct this month's bill which should have about the same result.
The mobiles are on the XT network but being in Auckland it has been working very well with no issues apart from Telecom's muckup on our plan. The phones work great and the boys' Sony Ericcson C510's are doing brilliantly. Rudy loves the HTC Snap as well.

So it's not all bad, but personally I'm sticking to my TelstraClear Nokia 6275i and the CDMA network until I know what I can upgrade to. TCL has signed a deal with Vodafone as well now too, so we'll wait to see what they come up with.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they have a clause in the contract stating that they don't guarantee service, as they do with their broadband service. Meanwhile I'm flying along here with vodafone.

Someone I may or may not know might have been attending a meeting when a certain telco were planning to change their old network. This person might have been privvy to an expert outside consultant relaying the pending doom that users of a certain mobile phone network are now experiencing due to many factors.

A certain company may or may not be capable of planning a drunken grope in a house of ill repute, even with complimentary alcoholic beverages.

Due to legal reasons this is specific as I can be.

Ahhh life is good on an alternative mobile carrier who planned their network meticulously.
