Was in the gas station this morning when a young boy came in on a street majic with no protective gear at all not even a bloody helmet. Where are the cops when we want them. ( Not a dig at cops here.) just wished one was happening past at the time.

Well i could not let him go so i asked him where his bloody helmet was his answer was it's at home couldn't be bothered putting it on.

And we have to pay his acc levis because i'm sure it wasn't registared.

You have to look at the long term. This is evolution in action. The sooner he crashes the less chance there is that we will end up paying his offspring later on....

Or do you report him and hope that maybe just maybe a ticket might make him think next time?

To be honest i couldnt give a shite, after 38 odd years of riding bikes ive seen plenty of such idiots come and go.Like i said i still subscribe to the not popular these days belief that pain or death generally sorts shit out, instilled in me by a very talented and still alive and riding old motorcyclist.Such idiocy wont be changed by a ticket.

If the ever present threat that his brains may end up running out his ears don't make him wear it then I'm not sure a ticket will.......

Having said that, if his actions were a threat to someone else then I would happily dob them in.

Ok I hear what you are saying. So coming upon such a scene as an innocent by stander is ok? - pretty damn traumatic I would say.

Just so long as he didnt threaten anyone elses life. I guess we will agree to disagree.

Problem is that if he is stupid enough to not wear helmit etc then he is stupid enough to take a few with him when he does come off.

If you think 'live & let die' with this, what if he was your son/nephew/cousin etc. You'd tell him to put a bloody helmet on! Here is an oppertunity for peer pressure to have a positive impact. If the 'real bikers' are telling the young fulla's to stop being dropkicks and wear the proper gear, chances are they'll listen.

I'm always in awe of idiots riding in shorts and teeshirts too - Obviously they have not had other riders drill them with what appropriate clothing on a bike is.

I told my son that no way was he getting on a bike if he didn't wear the right clothing - and yes, it has worked.

however, when I first rode with a bunch of guys (quick rides too), I told 2 of them off as they were only wearing jeans. within a couple of weeks, they both had been out and bought proper pants :woohoo: A bit of commonsense and letting them know the jeans wouldn't have protected their arse at all! Certainly not at the pace we ride :msn-wink: :first:

i choose to occasionally ride in a tshirt if the weather is warm enough. i often wear jeans, or, more lately, track or work pants. sure, i have the gear sitting at home, but its my choice to wear it or not. if anyone told me off for that, they would get a polite "fuck off" in response. yes, i have been in an accident. no, i wasnt wearing any proper gear. yes, i have the scars to prove it. no, it hasnt made me ATGATT and wont either. last time i checked, it was still riders choice.

i have however pressured young riders into wearing the right gear, or wearing it properly. the two boys across the road from my old job shared a scooter. i told them i would crack their heads together if they continued to leave the chin strap undone on the helmet. they did it up after that. another young boy came in on a scooter in shorts... i pulled up my pants leg and showed him the scars below my knee. i never saw him after that... must have scared him off the scoot.

I think the same way about helmets, but Johnny Law says I must wear one, so for the most part I do wear one, it's less hassle.

Helmets might prevent gravel rash on your bonce but they have a habit of breaking necks (without a Hans device). Sure, you need some protection but is a helmet the right thing? I don't think so.

Perhaps a Kevlar flying hat with a nose bridge.....:blip:

yeh, same. if i didnt have to wear one, i wouldnt for some trips. most of the time i would, but not for short trips. so i wear an open facer for the most part. in light of the fight against acc, i have been wearing a full face and my jacket, despite the heat. cant wait until i can go back to my normal habits.

Yup as long as ya wear a helmet it isn't against the law to ride in what eva ya want.

Lol Also its amazing tho how many people want you to be so damn careful with their injurys when your tryin to treat them at an accident scene.....I mean the ones that could`ve avoided being so badly injured or generally caused the accident , if its an innocent thats been hurt I do my upmost to make them comfortable.

I think the helmet law is a joke and should be scrapped.
By forcing riders to wear a helmet, the dumb are protected. We all know the dumb breed better too.
Removing them from the gene pool is so much easier.
Obviously there are circumstance etc but the same for the seat belt law.
Its all about carbon y'see - more dumb people, more we fuck the planet. Mass Exodus is coming due to the dumb.

If idiots want to risk their skin then that is their problem, BUT you managed to have an effect and convince a couple of other riders that they should take their own safety more seriously, well done! Also well done to them for being able to see the sense in gearing up.

difference being the kids i was talking to were all learners who had basically only just got on 2 wheels, whereas i had been riding for 3 or so years by that point and considered myself experienced enough to a: share my injuries with them and b: make the decision to ride in whatever. if someone had said the same thing to me when i was starting, i would have taken it on board and possibly complied with their suggestions, at least to begin with.

rt527, when i got hit, i wasnt interested in my injuries, mainly cos i couldnt feel them, and i sensed they werent serious. was more worried about them cutting my boot off... it was half of a pair given to me by my first partner. i simply ignored the pain when they pulled it off, lol. i havent worn them since cos they dont fit. i think the wreck crushed them out of shape. prior to that, they fit beautifully. i know for certain they saved my ankle from being turned into dust.
