I can't even figure out where that car came from. I can't see it on the road in front of the truck. Perhaps it pulled out from a side road.

But yeah, I would say the rider had little visibility of the oncoming traffic while overtaking a truck on the right hand side while going around a left hand corner.

At least some good may come of it being on You Tube. Hopefully it will make someone else stop and think before attempting something similar, and save their life.

Since it was a left hand bend, looking through from the left side of the truck would have been safe. Even then, I wouldn't pass any vehicle on a lefty.

Just saw the youtube poster (or whatever you call youtube users) claims it was him filmed and that he suffered no broken bones. Lady luck.

hey, this is my cousins husband, hes lucky he isnt dead, the truck kept on speeding up and wouldnt let it pass, so leave the guy alone!

WTF???

Anyway, The rider should have had plenty of time to pull back into his lane, He wasn't even passing.

That aside, I love the blue shade of the sky in that vid.

That's a good example not to overtake when you can't clearly see 100 meters blah blah blah...

If you look very carefully at the beginning of the video, you can see the car coming on the left of the second biker for a split second.

This guy was incredibly lucky. I hope the car driver was as lucky as him.

The exact same thing happened to me in the south island, except I was the innocent dude on my bike, and the driver of the car decided to pass the truck on the left hander..

Managed to slot the bike in between the truck and the car, blew my left mirror off on the cars passenger side mirror.. Then got off and broke my helmet when I smashed it on her car..

You must have really hit it hard! I know a guy that tried breaking his helmet with a hammer, and wasn't even able to crack it!

Good point! I wonder if there is more to the crash than what can be seen in the video.

The truck braked and moved to the right. He would have seen the car coming ... the bike had nowhere to go, and moved to the right to avoid it.

Following the truck too closely,

Yer, sorry that was a little mis-leading, broke an air vent and one of the bits that holds the visor on, only some scratches and missing paint on the shell.

Lucky bloke indeed! I'm glad he came out of is so well.

It is amazing when people try to defend what happened - it was a simple case of a rider fucking up and being very lucky to survive his mistake. Hopefully he learns from that incident and goes on to have many years of safe riding.

hey, this is my cousins husband, hes lucky he isnt dead, the truck kept on speeding up and wouldnt let it pass, so leave the guy alone!

WTF indeed - blaming the truck is a bit retarded! Since when can't a 1400cc motorcycle pass a truck if the rider uses common sense and picks his spot? Can a truck speed up enough to make it difficult for a 1+ Litre bike to pass? How much power would such a truck need?

There was a truck, a car & a motorcycle involved - I can't see how the truck or car driver would have any of the blame to share. It seems to me that the blame would be fairly apportioned thusly: Motorbike rider = 100%, Car driver 0%, Truck driver 0%.

This is why you look before you pull out - and not pull out to look.

Yes the ultra blue sky is caused by not using a UV filter on the camera.
You should always use a UV to create a more natural blue colour...
