View Full Version : Pulled over for the first time!

I had a feeling it would happen as well.

Was heading out of Hamilton toward Cambridge on the worlds most boring stretch of road. Happily going along at a 100 following the cars in front. I see a cop come the other way and i check my speed. Only doing 80 now as the cars had slowed down in front so all good. Then a passing lane comes up. I sit back for a few seconds then decide to overtake the cars. Pull out and speed up doing about 120 on the speedo and i see a car in the distance behind me also overtaking. Had a feeling it was a cop and when the passing lane ended i began to slow down. Then i check my mirrors and see the discos going :eek5:

Pull over and jump off the bike.

Cop: Blah blah blah shoes
Me: err what?
Cop: Why are you wearing tennis shoes?
Me: Just haven't got my boots yet...
Cop: Got ya licence?
Me: Yep here ya go
Cop: Wheres ya rego?
Me: Just here behind the exhaust
Cop: Count to 10 *shoves fancy gizmo in my face*
Me: sorry?
Cop: Count to 10
Me: One...
Cop: *takes fancy gizmo away*
Me:
Cop: You were doing 110 slow down a bit
Me: Will do thank you sir....

Strange experience i must say. Learnt my lesson though. Find a better way into cambridge

So you got stopped, the cop commented on your poor choice of safety gear (a point hammered home often on this forum-to wear good gear), he checked for alcohol (as required to do for all stops) and gave you a warning for 110km/h.

Don't get the point, what the hell is there to complain about? He was doing his job.

One of the reasons we wear Boots is to ptotect ankles in the event of "an off". A pair of lite walking boots would probably do the trick.
Big Bikes in Hamilton is closing down 25% discounts on all gear at present.

Sure he didn't want to know where you'd bought your shoes? Or if they were on special somewhere...... ????

The rest was probably just a cover up

I actually rode past Big Bikes on the way home after getting the tags so wish i had known earlier! Silly place for a bike store though. I was actually looking at Cycle Time and thinking how silly it is for a bicycle store out there

Why do you need to do that, unless you are complaining?

Cheer up matey was a joke :woohoo:

Just got back from Big Bikes where i got me some DriRider Nordic boots for $170. Same as these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Helmets-clothing-footwear/Boots/auction-255918469.htm

So you bastards won your little battle and have robbed me of my savings :(

Happy?

But Big Bikes is a nice place shame its closing. Saw my first Hyo 250 GTS which i think is much better looking than the comet. Shame the salesman tried to sell me shinkos when i said i was looking at new tyres and told me that BT45 were not dual compound when im 95% sure they are! Other than that great little store.

Only problem now is i don't have a bike to ride. Just took the fairing in to get a new tab made up and i won't be able to pick it up until thursday or friday  And the cage has no WOF

A very nice intro by the police to law enforcement for you. It's much nicer getting a warning!

sil3nt
30th November 2009, 15:17
They are. The Bridgestone website says soGood luck trying to tell him that! Because his little website where he gets tyres from said nothing about dual compound he reckons they aren't. He was a good bloke and i would happily deal with him again (in fact he gave better service than any other bike store i have walked in to) but his tyre selling skills are letting him down.

Telling me to get Shinkos over BT45's or sport demons is just plain silly!

You sure won't want to ride with anything that has laces - they can get caught up on the footpegs, and then whoopsie, over you go :eek5:

I have a scar on my R ankle - left there by a gear shift pedal that went all the way in to the bone when some silly old fart drove his car into my first bike. Cause I wasn't wearing boots. I was lucky. Leg didn't break and the bone didn't get infected.
Boots would have saved the pain and a bone deep hole in the leg for six weeks...
Get some boots. Cop was right this time.

This gives you some idea what the bastard cops on this site are like..... :)

...happy ending. Those are the stories we like to hear.

The cop probably thought you were doing more like 141* k/ph when he first saw you. How else could he account for your bike having traveled forward in time from the year 1987 to 2009?

*or 88 miles per hour. hint hint.

He was probably a biker himself, pissed off at probably having to pay higher ACC levies for dozy pricks wearing tennis shoes who bin it, making ACC fork out thousands of $$$ for skin grafts.... hence the ACC raising their fees..... Hmmmmm......<_<

Yeah but so long as you wear a helmet you can ride in your undies if you want. Tax collector was overstepping his powers and heading towards the realm of harrasment. I have lost soooo much respect for the tax collectors even before the blow on ya pie incident.

Fair point.

Then you need to make boots, jackets, pants and gloves legal requirements also.

I can appreciate his sentiment, but its personal choice, and it is not his place to question the rider.

I hear ya, its an old lemon that does the rounds......

Perhaps they should be. Perhaps those without the gear pay for their own skin grafts themselves.... those with the gear are fully covered.... perhaps.....

Fuck, you should have heard the howls of protest, when I suggested a sliding scale of cover, depending on cover. This was a few years back. But we haven't moved on from that 'live and let live' attitude.

I'd rather have a police officer warn me that I should get better gear to be safer than have all gear legally mandated and get fined for my gear not having the appropriate safety standard tag.

It is also better that people that don't wear the gear get advice on what they should do - that way they can make an informed opinion on whether to get better gear or carry on as they are and take the risk. Why criticize the officer for giving advice and a warning? Better that then giving out tickets to do nothing more than collect revenue.
