Moto Academy NZ is in a position to offer a seat to a young rider who is keen to race in the 125GP class of NZSBK 2010.
One of the Moto Academy NZ riders from this year is in a position to race NZSBK, so we have a ride available.
The package includes (but is not exhaustively):
1 x 1998 Honda RS125 main bike. :scooter: This is a fast bike with NZ optimal transmission, CKT serviced suspension, med/heavy front springs for NZ circuits, cast iron brake disc if rider wants it (not all riders like the feel), Marchesini wheels and possibly a quickshifter (in the process of organising one).
1 x 1995 Honda RS125 spare/rain bike. :scooter: Also a really good bike, but more standard and "softer" for rain racing.
So no messing about, all we do is swap the transponders over and go.
Bikes are also fitted with thermostats, so no messing about warming engines up, they do it themselves.
Riding gear, assuming you fit size 50 or 52 leathers and 43 or 44 boots. If outside of these sizes we will need to negotiate a modified deal on gear as we have sponsors products we must use.
A new Shoei XR-1000 helmet to keep (replacements at your cost but we have a sponsorship arrangement).
Parts and service support to keep the bikes going.
Entry fees and garages for Friday through Sunday.
Transponder.
Transport of bike and rider to events.
Accommodation Thursday to Monday of each race weekend. As long as you can put up with Glens snoring!
Fuel.
Tyres and other consumables.
You pay an up front fee of $6495 + GST to us and then you need only pay for your food, accommodation and entertainment for the other days and travel to and from the towns of the races should you want to head home in between meetings (as I will probably do between Ruapuna and Invercargill).
Crash damage costs are extra but will be kept to a minimum when possible. Moral of the story, don't crash!!
I would point out at this time that Moto Academy NZ is a training and educational organisation. We are not a championship chasing race team. Our aim is to provide an environment in which a young rider can learn and establish themselves in roadracing. We do not provide a structure that is gear solely to winning championships. It would cost somewhat more than the price asked and more expertise than we have to offer that. Having said that, the two main bikes we have are proven to be fast and capable, so with the right riders on board who knows what might happen.
So don't hesitate to contact me and we can see where we go.
Don't wait around though, entries for the race meetings will be closing soon enough.
Cheers

I sincerely hope Moto Academy is running in about 12 years Steve. It's simply an awesome initiative and a credit to your dedication to the sport.
Pat on the back for you and the supporters.

Imagine him and Deano's first racing together! That'd be awesome :D
Anyway, good luck Steve. I wish I was a few years younger!!
Out of interest, what's the youngest age limit eligible?

Thanks for the ups youse fullas!
Youngest age I think would be 14 with MNZ dispensation.
A rider of that age would need to be able to demonstrate some years of MX and maybe MiniMoto and Bucket racing of some kind.
EDIT: 125GP or Streetstock also of course. Poor ommissions.
Jumping straight onto a 125GP bike is not so easy.
Cheers

See rule 15-2-3. It's 13 years old
You have to apply to the board and it's not granted as of right!
"recommendation from a CURRENT top level rider who shall act as mentor until eligible for a senior licence."
Today I imagine the perfomance of a youngster in South Island Streetstock would be the measure of ability / maturity. The Sportfotoz Cup, the Nationals Support Series and, obviously, comparing to lap records.
Riders propsing to enter the Nationals need to be told they need to qualify, for obvious safety reasons. A 125GP rider who can only acheive Streetsock times would likely miss out, as a 125GP did at Ruapuna in the last championship.

Was Cameron Jones not the youngest rider to ever win a Race or championship through Steve Ward racing?

Youngest to win a championship, Nick Cain is youngest to win a race (I think!).

Cam rode his first National Points meeting at age 13years and 12days old.
About 9 months later, after winning the Sportz Fotoz Cup and setting the Ruapuna lap record, he went to 125 GP. He was assessed and recommended
by Shaun, who was one of two nominated mentors. The other was Andy Evans(the current 125GP champ) At this time he had 37 road race log book entries so wasn't short on experience. He finished 9th as a 14 year old in his first year, then won the GP at 15 plus 2 weeks old, followed a month or so later with the title. Just after turning 16 he retired from 125GP after 3 full championships, and is now climbing the 600SP ladder.
Nick Cain was a stunner on the 125, he won 2 races and the round overall at Teretonga when only 14. He went on to the Red Bull trials in Italy, where he had very high commmendations for his effort

Seems that way.
Even though we offer more than a lease deal, that is the essence of it.

If people or their families are keen on the benefit but not the cost, then don't forget the Streetstock class. Eligible from 13 years old, low cost, complete coaching and support. Full feilds so all abilities get to race and develop,
Spare bikes. 80% are under 18 years old (boys and girls) so new friends to make over 3 weekends on the New Zealand's best island.
And it's proven it works, that's what most of the country's young pro twin

4 more years before my boy turns 13. Any sign of this Streetstock taking off up here in the tropical north before then?

We have had quite a few Northerners commute down for Streetstock.
They claim it's good value for money when they consider how much good quality riding they get for their dollar. Just this weekend we had an Auckland dad and 13 year old son fly down for the day, they were over the moon with
bikes provided, full coaching, 3 training sessions, one practice/qualifying and 3 races. A bonus too was they get a professionally shot DVD of the days racing for another 5 bucks. Consider today's cheap fares and weigh that up with your "local costs" up north and you'll find out it's adds up very well. Another family from Ngatea travel down about 6 times a year. They love it. At the prizegiving the lady rider won "Streetstock Senior" for the levels series. Avalon Biddle commuted down for a couple of years. And when your young one turns 10, we can start them in our training class under "young junior road race" PM if you want more detail
Cleve, we might see you down here sooner than you think!
