View Full Version : News on Radio NZ National this morning

National radio reported that Nick Smith is now considering lowering the ACC Levy for motorcyclists.
Of course to me this isn't surprising because my suspicion (that was shared by others) had always been that the original recommendation was so ridiculously high that we'd all breath a sigh of relief when Snick Mith tell us it's less and he's reducing it.
Don't be fooled! This is all about National Party again trying to put the blame back on ACC so that they come out looking like the good guys. A
Don't forget that the National Party & ACC have always tried to justify the HUGE increase by using incorrect information and incredibly skewed facts.

The news article I read this morning suggests it will still be very high with only a very small reduction. The battle continues.

ACC Levy recommendations announced today..

It all means that the submission process to ACC was a waste of time and we still face big increases and there has been no responses to all our submissions........The proposed increases are yet to be ratified by Parliament so it is all up to Nick Myth now!! God help us.
Roll on a mass protest where by we all put our motorcycle registrations on hold.

"The cost for motorbikes bigger than 600cc would rise from $430.54 to $739.32, but that is down on the $781.12 originally suggested by the ACC. It would fall to $659.26 once the law change was in place."
woohoo, $40 less .

Don't forget that the National Party & ACC have always tried to justify the HUGE increase by using incorrect information and incredibly skewed facts.
Also, don't forget the National gutted the previous ACC Board and appointed their own.
There is no actual discrepancy between them - it's only for the public show. Nick of course, wants to appear responsive and sympathetic by "coming to a compromise" (the figure they had always planned)

Whoever the so-called motorcyclist's representative was that was interviewed by the radiolive network from last nights meeting and aired on their news this morning was as weak as piss :argh:
yeah sure the interview would have been cut for the amount of allocated airtime but christ they sounded like a school kid trying to weasel their way out of a detention

What I find strange is how, up to now, the figure/s proposed were ($745) on rego...but in the above report, the figure/s INCLUDE the levy on petrol. I do, say, 8000kms a year - you do 25000kms. We will not be paying the same total amount in levy, will we?
Just how the fuck are we supposed to know the amount on the rego to compare like with like.
Just another of Judge's filthy tricks?

ACC Insurance is sorting out its books to minimise exposure to bad customers. How long before cyclists, contact sports, DIYers, etc get hit hard. Who's Next!!
Oh and we're only just getting started on this :2guns::2guns::2guns:

Bloody spot on Kflasher! have they stopped to realise how many thousands of votes national will loose as a result of this move?
In the press release this morning -"Why should car drivers continue to subsidise motorcyclists? ---- HANG ON! but motorcyclists are supposed to subsidise RUGBY PLAYERS - SOCCER PLAYERS - NETBALLERS - CYCLISTS - ROCK CLIMBERS ETC ETC ETC !!!!
As far as I see it the only way forward is for one of our better informed members to go on something like Cambell live and ask ACC/Nick Smith directly and on the spot to support their false figures etc.
What does everyone else think?

Not to mention that since many of us own cars we actually cross subsidise ourselves...

The Honourable Mr Joyce's eyes apparently crossed when that was pointed out. They STILL think they are dealing with itinerant bike gangs, not voting taxpayers with rateable property and families.

MOM just listened to your interview on National, it's pretty evident from the interviewer's responses that the general public and even the Natinal talkback host are not concerned about the bogus information/ propoganda ACC and National have given everyone, and they dont really care
National and ACC are lying to us and they just dont see it as an issue!!!

Yup ... it was a good interview ... interesting how he could just talk over you ...
Points to note for future:
1. Yes Levys are going up on a number of things
2. We pay ACC on car increases, wage increases, petrol and motorcycle ..
3. With so much being paid - and the statement that the insurance company ACC need to increase costs to be self-funded and pay their own increased costs - where is the money going.

well writen
We have to stick to our guns...
No ACC levy increase is required...
Bikes should be the same as all other vehicles on the road
Then we need to fight for a better and fair way of collection... over all keeping what ACC is and what it was designed for... and that does include cross subsidising the accounts need to be rejoined
ore we could just frop our monetory system all together and become a resoures based system...

A few well spoken words by Les on ZB news at 9.00, and this is a station that has minimised coverage of the ACC campaign to date.
Time for us all to give Leighton Smith a call on 0800 80 10 80 and let him know the real story :mobile:

How about we (motorcyclist) may very well hold/ control the next election results
The only way that I can see we will get any change is to keep the issue public until the next election and then vote the bastards into oblivion. The ONLY thing politicians understand is "what must i do to get reelected and keep my job because I am fucking useless in the real world" Recent KB politician just done maiden speech excepted. Power to the people
It cost them more to collect the money than the (TV) fee

It was quite funny to see all the helmets come off and underneath there was as much mascara and lippy as you'd see in your average Miss NZ contest.

The question surely arises as to how "they" expect motorcyclists to be patched gang member criminals and at the same time "born again" professionals, on the associated mega cruiser, returning to riding on machines way too powerful for their capabilities?
