nah, agreed move. With age, comes some wisdom, and he's done them before. I'm just back up for this now, see how it goes and get to know the strings. can't beat experiance tho.
as for straightening triple trees, I'd have to say :spudwhat:
but we/I'll do a more advanced one later on, get onto servicing bikes etc and brakes, based on how this evening goes, cos I haven't been to one of Frosty's do's before

Gutted...this sounds great, but it just happens to be on my birthday, so the parents will likely want to come to Auckland and shout me dinner...
I've changed my brake pads and oil and filter before...but still don't feel like I know much about these things...can't wait til the next one.
Death.. why not?? I'm just giviing it a go.. seeing if it will change the steering physics of the bike etc... It's only for a few thousand K's anyway.
Kerry said it wont be a problem.. just personal preference.. Whats your thoughts?
I know I'm not Death, but I've got an experience to share...I think much of it depends on what the standard size tyre for that bike was. My CBR250r was running a 140 rear when it should have been a 130...and it was crap when riding on the edges, weaved and had little grip...reason apparently being because the tyre is squeezed up more to fit on to the rim which is too small. Changing down to the recommended size made the bike steer like a dream (relative to before). So if the TL is meant to take a 180 naturally...should be way better. Aside from the rim size thing though, going to a smaller tyre should provide less resistance on turn in and the bikes should be less reluctant to change direction.
I heard that Macadams are old tech and really crap though. Good luck :niceone:

No, no the clarification makes the testosterone pump faster (not mine though cos Mrs Ixion wouldn't approve. And I got into enough trouble with that cloud, I'm not looking for any more) . Cos it means that there'll be two *heterosexual* chicks along. And no mention of fella's accompanying them

The TL comes with 190 as standard but the 180 goes on no problem.. its a 6 inch rim so its not a stretch for the tyre.
Yeah the macadam is a bit old in the technology but is still a good tyre none the less, for a sport tourer. Plus it was well priced
TL1000R is a sports tourer? I always thought of them as a bit of an animal. If you're confident using the Macadam though, by all means.
Let us know how it feels using the smaller tyre though, please? Grip, handling and stability? It would be good to know for future.

that's pretty much the gist of the evening. It'll be an easy guide of showing you what to do with the simple things that need to be checked regularly. Then we can progress onto slightly more taxing things on another night.

Hiya,
Does anyone know what "basics" will be covered at the spanner night?
'basics' will cover the day-to-day things that you need to be aware of. Condition of your chain, tyres and their condition, how to spot problems with various bits.. Don't worry, there will be a fair bit covered, but don't be affraid to ask questions. And it'll be at a 'basic' level, so we won't be pulling engines apart etc.. that's for another night
Frosty has done this once or twice before, so he knows the drill. Just empty a little bit of brain space out, and fill it up on the night..

I'm coming over from the shore too. If you know Barrys Point Road, inbetween the Honda and Suzuki shops is where we normally meet. I think there's a few people coming from the shore, so we can all meet there around 6.15, to leave at 6.30 as we'll still have to navigate a bit of traffic.
Map. (http://wises.co.nz/map/default.asp?street=WESTERN+SPRINGS+Road&suburb=KINGSLAND&town=Auckland&sttype=&id=63157|2&svctype=1&mapaction=0&mapwhich=0&mapsize=2&width=512&height=512&businesses=1&brad=25&color=-1&filled=0&e=2665200&n=6479523&routemethod=0&s_id=&radius=&zoom=3&move=true&zoomin=true)
As for the cost, nothing. Just learn, and don't forget the top bloke who's letting us use his place..
Don't forget, it's now next week, not this..

This is the first this year.
Frosty had done some previously, but everyone has been too busy lately. There's been a great increase of newbies to the site and to riding, so it's a good time for a refresh.

Cheer Cheer.
I had a thought last night but I decided not to post it but Ive had another change of mind. just putting the idea out there.
this is an event Id like to remember, but its not like a ride on a saturday morning or something its a weeknight. so um. a txt ring?
IE. I txt 2 people. those 2 txt two more and so on until everyone is reminded.
it would be optional.
fuck Im on contract. ill do everyone (assuming someone reminds me)
so the deal is. If you want a text the night before the spanner evening then PM me either here or pyrocam.com and Ill text you the night before (or if its close enough the weekend before cos its free)
Im vodafone but I dont mind txting you dirty telecomies if your on that network :mobile:
all I need now is a date to set the alarm on my phone on so I dont forget.

Frosty's comments notwithstanding, we still appreciate the work our 'committee' does for us!
Additionally, I'd like to give everyone one the site a quick heads-up re the events of 7pm on the 26th of March...
A few of us (3 - literally!) had not been near the 'net for a while, so we turned up for the spanner evening anyway...
I can report that upon the arrival of we few uninformed stragglers, Kerry at Motohaus tore himself away from his nutritious meal, and - completely unprompted and unexpected - proceeded to give up an entire hour of his valuable time educating us with his wealth of bike-related wisdom.
This all took place on the very comfy Motohaus couches, and was further enhanced by Big Dave turning up with his shiny new Kiwi Rider mag, starring himself on the cover - an ideal learning environment if ever there was one! [Why can't university tutorials be like that?]
In this cynical, self-interested age, it is rare to come across someone in business that will give up their own time and facilities to share their knowledge with people they've never met before.
I came away knowing many things, that seem so common sense when you're told them, but which you could never make the leap to by yourself...
Thanks Kerry, you're a bl**dy legend!
Just as soon as I have coinage to spare [and a bike to spend on :msn-wink:] I'll come and find something I need [or 'need'] to buy from you.
Ross.

Yep,Kerry's a good bloke orright.
I was there too(briefly),I swung by on my way elsewhere to make sure there was no-one waiting outside after it was cancelled.....but found Kerry still there even though I'd let him know it was off,on the off chance that some would show. :niceone:
Couldn't stay long though as the mighty TL was calling....... :wait:
