So i commute on my bike. I have been working for a couple of months at this place and it was my 15 yr olds bday on the weekend. I mentioned during smokeo break that i ahd got one of the new Ipods for his birthday and he was real happy about it.
the conversation continued like this..

me: yeah., we woke him up at 1am when I got home (I work nights) on his birthday to give it to him
him: you went round to his place at 1am?
me: ummm, what? no.. I went home. hes only 15! he still lives at home
him: he lives with his mother?
me: ummmm.. well, he lives at home with me and my wife, yes.
him: oh, you are your wife live together?
me: of course we do... what?
him: oh, but you ride a motorbike?
me: what now? huh?
him: but you cant be married and ride a motorbike. It just cant be done.
me: what now?
him: the two just dont go together. All the married people I know dont ride motorbikes, and all the motorbikers are single.
me: ummmmmmmmm. well except me.......... what now?

he was serious too. he assumed that because I ride a motorbike then I must be at the very least, seperated......

????????????? what now?????????????

Well then he'd be completely gobsmacked to learn that there are women who ride who are not butch muff munching dykes who hate men. In fact we are happily married to riders! Male ones!

I love people like that. In a very early post of mine I told the tale of a social interaction with a particularly hen pecked looking individual outside of our local Push-n-Shove (Pak n Save to the uninitiated) and his Rotweiler (Woops I meant wife) regarding This very thing.

I told him my Wife wanted me to sell my bike (had 250 at the time) cause it wasn't big enough. Oh the hilarity!

Perhaps he only knows two people, and is applying similar statistical methods to those used by ACC

I swear I read it in my Suzuki manual back when I started riding.

It was in Japanese characters - so I can't be definite, but the symbols looked like it said:

"Bike Warning - wife low"

but wife could be oil - my Japanese was crap, now its non-existent.

The gobsmacking would be exacerbated (like 'masturbated' but not) then by learning that my wife made me buy my current bike.

yep shows the danger of stereo types. It was my wifes suggestion that I sell the 2nd cage and buy my bike with the proceeds and she's the one who tells me to "go out and ride it's a lovely day."

My partner and I both ride. We were both riding before we met. In fact we met through riding. However, neither of us will be a passenger!

We have an article cut out from the Herald with the headline "Key to a Successful Marriage: Seperate Motorcycles".

How true!

I met a guy not too long ago admiring my bike and in his late 50's. he said

Him: I always wanted to own a bike.
Bike Guy: Have you ridden before.
Him: No my mum wouldn't let me so I just watched friends do it.
Bike Guy: That was a long time ago, why don't you get one now?
Him: Oh no I can't. My wife wouldn't let me.

Then we talked bikes for about 20 minutes before I left. The guy really would like a motorbike.

All I can say is thank god my wife lives motorbikes and rides.

Well maybe not God because I don't usually talk with him or as Dicko from Aus Idol says "I'm not a God botherer".

Now Duct Tape should be a God.

I am happily married with a 5 year old son and a 4 year old son. My wife wants a Ducati Monster. She used to have a bigger and faster bike than me.

Am I merely a figment of my own deranged imagination?

No one I have spoken to ever finds it weird that I ride a bike and am married with small children.

If anything, her and our two kids make me a "safer" rider.
