Was thinking about heading up to Puke this Sunday if the weathers OK to check out the Classic Festival.

In 2003 it was $25 to get in, $5 for a programme, and $5 to cross the bridge. Dunno if that was per day or the whole 3 days.

I usualy go one day,I'll most likely go sat afternoon,maybe sunday,I'll make a descion on the day.If I take my trials bike down for the demo I get a free ticket,not likely..I don't want to show people how to fall off.I've had free tickets the last couple of years,but my mate on the commity won't give me one unless I bring my bike for the demo...prick.

I went down to Pukekohe today for a look around the Classic Festival. Looking around the bikes that people had ridden down was almost as interesting as walking around the pits. There was a truly impressive collection of Velocettes which had obviously had many hours spent on them. Joined the crowd that listened to the "Munro Indian" when it was fired up! I'm not sure if it's a bike or some sort of exquisite torture device though!? I'll certainly go back next time for another look. :niceone:

Arnt those old shiters amazing........ now they are what motor bikes are all about, if it wasent for the guys back then, ya have to wounder what bikes would... or wouldent be like today.

I went on saturday,I went to the first Classic event,and try to go as often as possible.

Saw some great bikes alright,wandered around the pits saying giday to people,looking at bikes,a shitload of Velo's.I've never had anything to do with Velo's,they were too much of an enthusyists bike.One that stood out was a Velo scooter,a flat twin - the Viceroy,cool,I liked that.The guy who owns it collects scooters and I sold my 2 Zundapp Bela's to him.Saw a Triumph 500 sidevalve twin,they are pretty rare,never seen one before - an import of course.Saw my old BSA sidecar - Blackadder,and had a yarn to the guys I sold it to 25 yrs ago.Still has the same motor,but an 850 or more now,it's a full nealer these days too,but the same frame and forks...and they are still using the sidecar frame I built for it back then!

That 350 Triumph single looks good - I didn't see that there.I used to have one,but never got it going.They are rare as the factory was bombed in WWII and all patterns lost.See how much it looks like a BSA B31,they even have the same bore and stroke - that's because Val Page designed both,the BSA being a later model.Saw a Vincent Comet leaning against a fence that looked like it had been used hard on gravel roads - you often see Vincents like this,the guys that ride them use them hard.

I didn't see the Munro bike - is it the real thing or a replica made for the movie....but saw it running up and down the pit straight,sounded good to me!

Ah,I see MacD has added a couple more (I took no photos,I've seen all these bikes before) The Cotton - see the triangulated frame,2 tubes going from axle to top and bottom of steering head,strong stuff for the day.Carl Garnet had his Cotton trials bike there to,and his Triumph with the special frame,the name of which escapes me,made in England with a French name...no,not Rickman.

The owner of the 350 Triumph also has a sense of humour - the overflow bottle is a NOS bottle ;)

I think it was the replica, but somebody else may know better?

A good friend of my Father's used to restore classic bikes many years ago, but I was too much of a spotty youth to truly appreciate them then. Unfortunately he died riding one on a rally in the 70's but I suspect that he went out the way he would have wanted.

Yeah its a replica built to the same spec's as the real thing, there are two of them (insurance reasons) built for thr movie....... cant wait for the movie aye :ride:
