View Full Version : WHEN do they say the proposed increases happen?

Hey folks -worst case senario WHEN would you say the levvy increases will take effect if nothing further happens?
-My thinking here is that if its say 2011 it comes into effect we make it VERY clear that national has just lost the votes that bikers are able to cast.
maybee its just the 30000 accsaysitis --or maybeeits the 100000 we say it is ---either way thats a reasonable chunk of the voting population to loose

In sitting weeks the politicians are only in Wellington on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There first sitting week back after the summer recess will probably be in early/mid Feb.
I think we should start planning now, so people can save up a day or two of annual leave to make sure they can be there. Early Feb is likely to be lovely weather for a ride. :D

That would be good, even the car rego's are going up a fair whack. Not as much as bikes but still effects everyone really.
Would be good if we could unite with other groups... are there employer groups annoyed about the increases? Most of them would be national voters wouldn't they?

Nick Smith and other honourable members decide what the increase will be after considering all recommendations from ACC and other interested parties on their return from Xmas holidays in February I think.
Increase will be effective April 1 I believe.
Please correct if I am wrong.
Note that it will be the Government that decides and implements any increases, ACC makes it's recommencations every year. Just so happens this year they picked on Motorcycles.
Insert your favourite swear word now to describe them, then pen a letter to Nick and sign it in blood.

Well the first lot were for the ACC chaps who gave us about 4 weeks to make submissions, then they pretty much ignored them all when making their recommendations to the Government (lowered it by $50 or something insulting).
The pressure is now to be applied to our honorable members, as far as I know they don't have a submission process but it is free to post a letter to Ministers at The Beehive and should be encouraged.

Want to beat the system on forward paying up to 15 months motorcycle registration ?
In our own Ulysses November club newsletter was an article put forward by the Rev Allan Wasley of Wakefield. This was distributed at the Nelson ACC protest ride.
Today Friday 27th I decided to put this to the test.
My bike was registered for 12 months in August and doesn't expire till August 2010.
I visited our local testing station and requested the MR27 form.
I filled the form in with my bike rego and bingo it works.
I thought the new extended 15 months would be assessed from the date I re registered eg August 2009 then just add 15 months, to take me through to November 2010 but no !!! the 15 months takes me through from todays date until 27/02/2011,credit was given for the next 9 months already paid. Fellow members its a winner. Gary the local manager of the Blenheim Testing station suggested tell your mates because there is no doubt the ACC component of our registration is going to go up next year, maybe not as high as first advertised but you can bet your bottom dollar will be a lot higher than it is at present.
Another thing to consider-- whats the betting they LTSA will close this loophole as soon as they can

I confess that I don't understand this particular piece of avoidance. Whatever cunning plan is wrought, it will have to pass the "lady behind the counter at NZ Post" test. If I don't understand it, I suspect neither will she.

And this MR27 allows one to do what exactly that a "normal" MR1 form can't? And where does one get such a thing?

Thanks to the Power Of The Internet I have deduced that an MR27 allows one to buy increments of a year's registration in monthly bites other than in bites of three months.
It appears that motor vehicle registration is annual and non-contiguous i.e. a motor vehicle can't be registered more than once.
On that basis, the best strategy is to reregister one's motorcycle for 12 months at an appropriate date in June. If one's rego doesn't expire in June, one can cancel for a refund one's current rego and procure, with an MR27, registration for the period from whenever one decides to cancel and the appropriate date in June.
"15 months" appears to be something of a fiction.

I've dredged this because it is getting close to the time to put in the MR 27 forms.
The form allows you to change the expiry date of a vehicle's license.
You can chose a date up to 15 months from the date of application. (see note 2 on the back of the MR 27)
Costs you $7 plus any extra rego time you need to purchase up to the new date.
Can be done irrespective of the current license status of the vehicle. (e.g. licensed, on hold, expired)
There is a question as to the date the new fees come in. Another thread say July 1.
Can anyone confirm?
