View Full Version : Drying out the boots

So I ended up with boots filled with water yesterday 'cause I was too lazy to put the wets on before going for a ride...(yeah yeah proctastination is the thief of time, I know I know...)
I can wait three days for them to dry out in the "hot water cupboard" (which is gas fired, very well insulated and hardly "hot" at all) but I am not renowned for patience and would like to hurry the process up. I could just wear them wet but frankly, they develop a certain effluvium given that treatment and people tend to run away as I approach...
So come on team, what gems of wisdom have you for accelerating the process? Share your accumulated wisdom with me please...anyone?

Yep, stuff 'em with newspaper and put them in the hot water cupboard. I always change the newspaper twice and by the next morning they're pretty much almost dried out and ready to go out and get wet again....

This is understated - if you stuff them hard with newspaper - a sheet at a time and really cram it in, the boots wil be dry in the morning.
This is the real oil.

Yep, stuff them with newspaper and change after about 2-3 hours with new paper.
If still wet put plastic bags over your socks. At least your socks and feet will still be dry. Bread bags are really good for this.

Newspaper and take em to work if your work is airconditioned. The dry air in an airconditioned workplace speeds up drying heaps

There is a blower you can buy from Farmlands or RD1 stores for drying gumboots. Its a little blower with 2 tubes facing up. Put your boots upside down over the tubes and hey presto, warm dry boots next morning. About $100. You can also get on with 4 tubes for gloves as well or even a helmet attachment. very good system and cheap as well.

+1 for newspaper.
Crunch up the sheets like you are lighting a fire and shove them right down tight. Then change every 1hour or so as required.
Works a treat + doesnt dry out the leather like exposing it next to a heat source (said fire)

If your oven has is thermowave, bang it on 180 for about 30 mins or until the boots crispy on the outside, add gravey and serve.

Well? best you get some newspaper then. Seems to be the consensus on here.......
I've done it before, does work, but never had to worry about the time frame. Goodluck

ive dried shoes with hair dryers b4..
bout 30mins-hour worth of work. just dont get to close and keep 'shimmy-ing' it.. so doesnt stay in one place and burn a hole.
but boots might be different. ive only done it to sneakers.

something I always do with wet boots or gloves is- give them a spin in the washing machine before putting them in the hot water cupboard. Arrange them in the bowl evenly, balanced like, and give them the hard spin, It cuts down the drying time by about 2/3rds.
I worked in the forest once, logging, and used to come home many days with saturated boots, and discovered the spin trick. I always went out in the morning in dry boots.

actually thats a good one....with gloves i wrap em in a old towel and stand on them to squash the water out..the dye comes out thoughI like the spin trick and will try it.Leather doesnt like getting "force dried" so after a few dry outs you have to treat with dubbin, sno seal, bees wax ...whatever...

For a quicker dry, find a vacuum cleaner that can be made to blow. Plenty of warm air circulating should have you sorted in 30 minutes each at a guess :)
