Scuttlebutt at the precinct is that more Chinese cars are to be sold new in EnZed...

Let's hope they are a little better engineered than their motorbikes...

Wooden engine anyone?

If they are cheap enough I could be keen. Indian car 'the tata' sells for only about $4000 brand new.

Just carry a toolbox at all times

What wooden start? or wooden last long?

Seeing as They'll still have to meet NZ standards I can't see them being that much cheaper. You would not be able to sell that Tata new in NZ without some serius "export market" mods.

Nothing new.

Honda produces the CR-V in the United Kingdom and Japan for worldwide markets, and as of 2007, North American CR-Vs are produced in East Liberty, Ohio. The CR-V is produced for the Chinese market by the Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company, a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Starting in fall 2007, North American CR-Vs will also be produced in Jalisco, Mexico in addition to the US, Japan, and Britain due to high demand.

China. Mexico. India.
Even Fisher & Paykel stuff are not made in here anymore anyway.

Most of the current Japanese car parts are also made in China.

China has been undergoing industrial revolution in the last few years. What fails now or yesterday will be their success tomorrow.

NZ should be very scared if we don't move up from the assembly/production industry to the design/R&D stage. Soon half of our country will be unemployed.

Airbags are optional?

Oh yeah, I can "choose" to get a brain damage. Cool.

What I hate about Chinese "fake" Automobile Industry is them making copied cars such as this.

<img src="http://indianautosblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/rolls_royce_phantom-vs_hongqi_hqd.jpg"></img>

Top one is the "real" and the bottom one is the Chinese fake.

Wait, theres more.

<img src="http://www.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/thumb-fake_BMW_X5.jpg"></img>

Fake BMW X5? Gotta be kidding me!

Fake 7 Series? Jesus wept!

Just compare, where would you rather be in?

Yep, jap cars were a joke in the '60s, treated with suspicion in the '70s, begrudgingly accepted in the '80s, and the cars of choice by the '90s.

Yet, IIRC when the kiwi WW2 vets had their 50th anniversary celebrations in 1995, many were offended by all the Japanese cars parked outside and demanded their removal . . . :2guns:

Human race is its own worst enemy, we want things cheaper and we want them yesterday AND we want them to last forever.

gwigs is onto it, the Chinese are doing now what the Japanese did in the 80s.

They are a manufacturing superpower, no two ways around it.

In that case, the rest of us can leech off the taxes they pay - and drink Lion Red all day, while playing the pokies.

I thought the cars you old farts talk about were the kind of thing to smash into a phone line and keep driving, not completely disintegrate like those POS'

The car would survive ok but the steering column would impale you and the metal dash would cut you in half and the lack of a crumple zone would transfer the total impact to your bod and internals....... Lamp post would die though.
