View Full Version : So how many 600cc+ bikers actually earn 80k+?
firefighter

So, i'm getting sick of hearing about how those of us on 600cc+ bikes tend to be higher earners.
The number constantly quoted and used for subsidisation examples is $80 000.
So, for interests sake, how many of you on here with bikes over 600cc, earn that much or more?
It will be interesting to see the numbers.
To cut the modesty out, I for one don't earn anywhere near that!
One such place where this figure lives: http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/bikers-vow-keep-fighting-acc-hikes-3209862

New mortgage too, so go Nick! I would LOVE to be on 80k!

I've got a 250 and 570cc currently, though I did own a 650 once, but it was a single so doesn't really count ;p

Interestingly some numb nuts in that link is rattling on about bikers causing x number of accidents. Look at the cost of the accidents if you are going to do that. Most of the single vehicle accidents are cheap, either rider dies or at worst breaks a bone. The multi vehicle ones are where you get the HUGE rehab costs. So please if you are going to quote those stats, know your shit will ya.

Not really relevant. You need to ask this question at a HOG meeting. This site is probably too young to have a high percentage of upper decile earners. And the wrong sort of bikes.

Nope.
We both earn a decent whack - but have about a quarter of a million dollars worth of mortgage (with a quick payoff time) hanging over us.
If these proposed levies (or even close) go ahead, I would seriously consider flogging the bike off if it wouldn't send me mental within about two weeks.
And I'd consider getting a 600cc instead, but I'm a fat bastard, so it'd be slower than a water buffalo on valium.

Thing is though, at the end of the day it is only money, you can't take it with you when you die and you sure can't judge your worth by ho wmuch of it you have managed to accumulate. One thing I am trying hard to teach myself is to be satisfied with the blessings I already have.

'back in the day' I used to earn 10k per week when I was working in the UK / US / Asia. Stupid money I know. Totally stupid money.
(btw - Im not bragging - as is often the case when you have a lot coming in - you invest - some good - mine not so good - so Im far from rolling in it now).
Anyway - whilst I still earn good money - I earn A LOT LESS than I would in the UK, or the US (I have been asked to move there a few times).
But I live here on the smaller amount of money - and me and my family are far the richer for it.

I know! We were watching that news item and both of us turned around and said "$80 grand? Shit, we don't earn that between the two of us!"
I'm self-employed and my income varies greatly, but I've never earned anywhere near $80,000 in a year. Bloody politicians assume everyone who is not on the dole is raking in big dollars and it pisses me off. If I did earn that kind of money I probably wouldn't mind paying increased levies!
On a side note, ACC really pisses me off. I tripped on so-called 'safety' strips on the edge of stairs last Friday and ended up getting a free ambulance ride. That, however, was the extent of the freebies. ACC doesn't pay the full cost so I've already had to shell out $60 for two x-rays and $20 for a doctor's visit (she kindly didn't charge for the second visit), then next week I have to pay for physio as well. And if I am not fit for work next week, I'll only get 80% of my salary. Wow, that sounds fair, doesn't it? Oh, but that's right, I earn at least $80 grand so I'm sweet. Yeah, right!

Its the benificiaries they should be looking at, no tax contribution in the first place should equal no ACC if they have binnage.
As usual, pick on the winners & support the losers.

Read the very first post and you will realise your post is completely off topic. It does'nt in any way question anyones right to ACC, it is asking who is actually in that bracket as it has been the number quoted for subsidies in the event of an accident for those on 600cc+ bikes.
