Rum is the greatest spirit.

Closely followed by gin.

Personally, I think Malt Whisky is, but you make a good case.

Was a great comic in the 90's. Fun with Milk and Cheese, main character's catch phrase was "Gin makes a man mean" and "Everyone booze up and riot"... :Punk:

Have drunk gin ever since, have always been easily led by dairy-based creations...

I thought it was God, or the Holy Ghost... or maybe Jesus. That Trinity thing always confuses me - like the three musketeers.

All for one and one for all! (and two for the price of three!)

Alcohol is a complete waste of money. Homebrew rules.

That all depends on the skill off the brewer, I've been making it on and off for 4 years, have tasted some other peoples product and its rubbish, yeasty, dis colored base, haven't drained off the methanol portion, too strong, essences and additives in wrong proportions etc.

Some people are better off to buy it..

Rum makes guys fists clench and arms swing.
Gin makes girls cry and moan about their lives.
Bourbon seems the safest option :Punk:

My first few brews were nasty, but now I can brew a very tasty beer using no boil extract kits and a bit of dry hopping. Or when I distill spirits, it costs about $30 to make around 7L of 40% ABV spirit and it's bloody good quality. So for the price of one average quality bottle of vodka I can make 7.

I do like a good Bombay Saphire, fresh lime and lemonade on a hot evening... I don't recall getting all emotional when drinking Gin, but I know a lot females who do, then again, I usually only have two before switching to Jack to finish the night.

Shot, I never tried the beer kits, $20 for a doz is ok for me.

I around 7.5-8L @ 40% after second distil, I bought a reflux head for mine (comes out around 88-91 % :D), and a carbon/ceramic filter cause I couldn't be arsed with a bunch of z filters. I've got a gallon bottle full with 4 rum baggies in, 2 bags of chips, some vanilla and a few drops of "smoke" essence, its going to be the tits in a month or 2

Rum as in "a Tot" as the Naval chaps refer to, would have to be the most vile concoction Ive ever had to swallow. Can say that after many attempts.:Pokey:

It depended what the tot was.......if it was Bundy, it was f*king awful, but the last of the RN stuff we got, after they scrapped the tot and the RNZN was still imbibing, was superb..........

Have you got one of those fancy essencia carbon http://www.yourshout.co.nz/Filter.jpg filters like this? I've never made rum, I just stick with neutral spirit, black sambuca and gin.

Sure do old chap, I filter it all through to a tank at about 50%, filter it through again. Then its good to bottle.

It would be interesting to know how much impurity is left after 2 distills, and 2 filters..

You drink it straight ! Its essentially vodka when its clean eh, I don't like it ha, I would like to see how a 90% absynthe comes out

I can't help but think that spirits made by starting with raw alcohol and then adding the flavourings (e.g. gin, rum.....) is cheating.
At least with whisky, brandy, bourbon etc, what it tastes like, depends on what its made from.

Have never understood this cleaner spirit sales pitch.

Got an essencia still producing 5 Ltrs at 90 % and filter it thru a pre Z drip filter.

Usually make just Bourbon with the chunks. Made a rum for a sailor and he was happy , now wants it a bit stronger than 40%. some ppl have no class, aye

Agreed - no gin is! Not the blue one, not the normal one... not any of the variants. Gin's terrible no matter what you do to it (except the gin sling you can get on Singapore Airlines... and even then I'm suspicious they don't actually include gin)
