Dragged the bike outta the shed and shot up to Duntroon today (Longdrop rally) to have a couple of beers with a few mates who had come down for the Longdrop rally,wasnt paying $30 to get in when i wasnt staying so met em the pub blah blah,carried on up to the lakes then headed home about 5.15,came upon 2 cars so passed one then in the middle of nowhere the one in front of me turns his indicator on:confused:am thinking wtf theres nowhere to turn into so briefly thought hes indicating for me to pass him,resisted the urge as the car was full of doddery old buggers,by the time all this had gone by we were finally approaching a Farmers driveway on the right and there was a black Commodore heading our way anyway so tucked in behind and on his left side,remember this was in the middle of nowhere and on a fairly narrow road,the Commodore was almost on him then:doh::doh:the f#cker turns right into the driveway:pinch:the Commodore hits the pics but nothing is going to help,next thing the Commodore slams into the side of the old buggers car and its taken sideways out of my vision back off up the road,unbelievable.Result one naffed Commodore,one naffed old buggers car and luckily just a few bruises and plenty of shock,think his wife may have a broken arm,once everything settled down i left my name with the Commodore driver if she needs witness help.Crazy shit and couldnt help but think what the result would have been if it was a bike,and there was plenty about.

Many years ago i had a cousin in the Airforce up in Blenheim,one day riding along in the middle of nowhere on her wee GN250 some old bloke turned right on a dead straight bit of road,she was flown to Wellington but sadly she was brain dead,couldnt believe the old guy didnt see her,this today was xactly the same thing,how the fuck did he not see a huge bloody Commodore?Not heading over mate the way mate,theres a poker run on here to try and raise some $ to help oot a 3 year old boy with some pretty bad medical problems so am going to go with that,heaps cheaper and a very worthy cause.Have a good one over there mate,might catch ya at the March Hare etc.

I hear ya Mike, had a real close call yesterday

coming back from Palmerston via Linton, Tokomaru & heading towards Shannon. The Opiki turn off has undergone a major transformation with a merging lane for those heading south off the turn off, the whole corner is a major sweeper (nice)

noted 4 vehicles waiting to come over on the turn off .. first was a ute .. he could see us coming (great visability) so turned into the merging lane (as he should), but noted the second car rolling forward & thought he is gonna keep coming & may not have seen us, so already backing off the speed, then thought hmm wats the bet he drops deep down into our lane (rather than follow the ute)

sure enough he did fark me :eek: .. stood the bike up hit the picks hard & was only a foot or two from his rear bumper, considered underpassing him but with new seal that was a :nono: , so got really close to his drivers door & gave him the :finger: .. as did the harley rider, that we picked up at Tokomaru and Bren, bless him .. also gave him the :finger: salute.

the ole bugger did not give way did not look and certainly did not pull into his correct lane

thats been the closest call ever :sweatdrop: thank god the spidey sense was on full alert

Yep ya got to watch those older Gumbooters, they get very set in tyheir habbits, and tend to fly on auto piolet alot.
My old man a retired Gumbooter, used to bleat on to me about not having an accident in 35yrs+ of driving untill one day he did some thing simmilar, he shuts up now.

This sort of accident is hard to understand - if the old bugger can't see that car coming on a long straight road then how did he travel that far without something happening? It's just crazy when there is a quiet road with not much happening to distract the driver then they still can't see the only vehicle that is approaching - it is lucky it wasn't a bike coming the other way or someone could be dead.
