If you have some spare cash, here's an option to consider if you want to delay (unfortunately not avoid) the personal financial impact of the proposed ACC levy increases.

Go to a post shop and request a NZ Transport Agency MR27 form "Application to Change Licence Expiry Date" to change your current motorcycle licence expiry date to a new expiry date up to 15 months from date of application.

If you do it before the new 2009/10 fees are set the current licence fee will be payable to cover the months from your existing licence fee expiry to the new expiry date.

For example if your current licence is due to expire in August 2010, you could change it to expire 15 months from now i.e March 2011. You would be charged the current fee for the 7 months Aug 2010 to March 2011.

Otherwise when your existing licence expires in Aug 2010, those 7 months will be subject to the proposed 2009/10 ACC fee increases from 1 July 2010.

I think you are going to need to do it before the new fees are announced.

yes, and in one of Nick's press releases, he said the levy had already gone up earlier in this year, and that he says there wont be any more this year. more lies.
