The following events are on and there are still places available:
Pre festivities:

Saturday Dec 19th Hampton Downs Ride Day - 6 x 20 minute sessions on NZs premier race track.
Post festivities: Have a blast before you head back to the daily grind.
Tuesday Jan 5th Hampton Downs Ride Day - 6 x 20 minute sessions on NZs premier race track.
Monday Jan 11th Hampton Downs Ride Day - 6 x 20 minute sessions on NZs premier race track.
To book a space please phone us on (09)412 6266
If you can get 5 of your friends to do a ride day with you, we will give you your day half price. That’s buy 5 and get one half price, so get on the phone and call your mates and enjoy a day or two on the track.
We will also be running twilight sessions next year so watch this space for details.
Treat yourself or the one you love (you know you want to).
Enjoy the ride

Hey thought i'd revive this thread
There's a Ride Day this Wed, 9th Feb for any of you that can make it. Then again on Saturday 19th Feb. Come down and have a blast round the track, you can register with the lovely ladies on the day, (me included :msn-wink: ) or register online @ www.hamptondownsridedays.co.nz

It's $199 for the day. You get 6 sessions of 20 minutes and some coaching from a coach from the California Superbike School if you need it. If you have not been round the track before, the coach runs a first timers session at the beginning of the day. You need to turn up by around 8AM, the compulsory riders safety briefing is at 8:30.
You must have leathers, either one piece or two piece zipped together. They are available for hire for $75 for the day - including gloves and boots and helmet if needed. There is a deposit (sorry can't remember how much) but it is not taken from your credit card, just held and reversed at the end of the day when you return the gear.
It might seem like a lot but it's well worth it. You'll have a blast. There are about 2 every month so if you can't afford it at the moment, save up and come down when you can. In March there is one on the 16th & 21st, in April there's one on the 9th and on Anzac day - the 25th.
Hope you can make it!

$100 per hour for a race track... Maybe if it was a top quality European Circuit.
How am I causing the need for $200 (sorry... $199) for riding on the track for 2 hours on a little bike?
Still covering building costs? Steep profits to pay for the down days? Honestly that's ridiculous. It's cheaper to pay for fuel to go down to the Taupo track for a day from Auckland.
Got any newbie rates to at least try and entice me into becoming a regular? Might be a good business plan... obviously not. Never mind, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Hey yeah I know it's a lot of money for a ride
It is a world class circuit and one of the most technically challenging tracks in the country, if not the world (one of the). And yes there is still some construction happening.
How long would you normally spend on the track - I mean actual track time?

How long would you normally spend on the track - I mean actual track time?I don't want to be rude or anything but it is very far from being a world class circuit. World class circuits don't have gravel pits. They also tend to have a few more corners with a bit of variety.

That's the going rate. Taupo is about $150 a day for slightly less time. Manfeild can be under $100, but that's only for test days where they alternate between bike and car sessions or certain extremely popular club track days. Otherwise it's $135. As for Puke, I think the test days (alternating between bikes and cars) are still $100?? But it's Puke. Problem with test days is there's no ambulance and the cars often spread shit on the track.
Taupo's a few years old now and Puke and Manfeild are relatively ancient.
The HD ride days are extremely well organised and run and the track easily has the best surface of the 4 north island tracks.
You definitely get your monies worth too. Most people don't even stick around for their last (6th) session cos they're done.

90 bucks will be the open day usually held on a friday. Although they seperate the bikes from the cars, you will be thrown in with the racers etc, rules aren't as strict (non existant perhaps?) around passing etc... so perhaps be prepared to be cut up.
And puke isn't HD....

Every ride day I've been to, so many of the riders come and find us to say thank you so much for a great day. Always hearing good feedback from those that have been down. There are plenty of regulars and even get to see the odd celebrity! Very well organised and safety is the top priority.

That's all good I've got myself complete leathers, zip together and everything for extra safety :woohoo:, didn't think there was any point not getting it while I was new and more suceptible to crashes. And I also bought them all with the intention of going to some race tracks to have some track days.
Ooo pukes good, and can even ride through the Hunuas to get me there in the mornings, warm up
Puke track decentish? $90 for the whole day is much more reasonable!

Puke is a complete goat track compared to HD. As has already been stated, you could be sharing the back straight with bikes doing 300km/h plus.
Oh and you're not insured on a test day.

It is worth it - like I said always hear great feedback especially on how well organised the day is. There are 4 groups first is White for slow, Yellow for Medium, Green for Medium Fast and Red for Fast. You can register in the group you think you will be suited to, if it's not suitable after a session you can see us girls and we will move you up or down, whichever you want. It's worth at least giving it a go.

There's no death trap corner.. One person died there in October coming onto the front straight he lost control at a very high speed.

superman - your worried about a "death trap corner" but on the otherhand willing to go out on a no holds barred Puke test ride? You'll be out on your 250cc getting passed at unbelievable speeds. Sounds like hell to me and all it takes it for you to cross into someones line (who you wont see coming) and game over. Please mate go to a HRD or ART so you can get someone to show you the ropes.
ttmadness - I would suggest that using the test puke day to relieve some tension is going to end badly. What I can't quite undertand is that you have the financial capacity to purchase and maintain a late model CBR but seem reluctant to buy the right gear (jeans?!? really?!?) and attend a track day where you'll actually learn how to ride your machine in a safe envionrment. Not being a prick but I just don't get it.
In the end the rules are not there to hold you back but to provide an environment so people are comfortable and safe within their riding ability. If you think your fast then sign up to the fast group...I think you'd find out very quickly that there's a lot more to riding on a track than trying to get redline on the straights...there's corners remember.

Sorry don't think this got answered? No you can't go in on jeans etc, HD run a full leather policy as cordura etc is no good for anything over 100kph. You will be ripped to shreds if you came off too much faster than that. Safety is the number one priority at HD.
You can hire all leathers and helmet, gloves & boots if you need it for $75 for the day. If you don't wreck any of it..

ok this sucks. HD is too expensive, puke is apparently too dangerous... no other tracks i can ride to from auckland easily and ride back after.
shit what do i do? downgrade bike? Is a cbr250rr or possibly an nc30 a lot more safe for going hard around pukie?
as far as i can tell, the only really dangerous spot i see is the mountain, shit it would be easy to lose the rear end over there on a 600 at 170kph. 90kph castrol corner onto the main straight seems fine and so do the other corners.
Maybe just use a bike that can be taken full throttle around the mountain?
try and see if i can beat vtecs cbr250rr 1.15 lap record? i need to push something hard.

Go do a ride day, or even just a single session (you can do this by arrangement I have read). You'll see it is worth every penny (Even after you factor in Tire wear, petrol, and new undies :P)

Over charged?? You get very good value for money at HD Ride Days. As I've said, most people don't complete their full number of sessions cos they've got their moneys worth already. Between 4:00-5:00 it's not uncommon to have 2 bikes on the track because everyone else has headed home.
You get what you pay for. Puke charges $90.00 for an open day where CBR250's and even FX150's get thrown in with full monty Superbikes and Supersport racebikes. There's no ambulance (something I've personally found extremely "inconvenient" once) and you have to go out between the car sessions. If you're lucky there aren't any drifters there to cover turn 1/2 with grass and dirt.
Open Days are run by track management. But they don't do any Open Days for bikes at Hampton Downs. The only public ride days are run by Hampton Downs Ride Days as stipulated by HD Track Management.
HD Ride Days are among the safest I've attended (a big plus for me having broken bones at an Open Day). It's also professionally run and the emphasis is on making sure people get what they pay for.

Thanks for the replys mental. Just to clarify Im not anti HD, i have done CSS there its a great track and run well, Im just trying to understand why an open day is different and cheaper than a ride day.
Are you saying there is no ambo or marshalls at an open day? Surely not?
As for the mechanical and coaching staff maybe that should be user pays?
Also Taupo@$135 vs HD$199 means I can do 3 days at Taupo for the price of two at HD.
I really want to do HD but if I cant justify that extra coat to myself I wont be able to bring myself to hand over the cash. ( Anal, yes I know)
The issue for me is $150 for a car vs. $199 for a bike at HD. The Taupo thing is not really the issue.

The issue for me is $150 for a car vs. $199 for a bike at HD. The Taupo thing is not really the issue.
He is wrong. Of course there is an ambulance at Pukey testing.
I think it all comes down to what you want though. If you want to set lap times and learn limits etc then you just want to get on there with minimal interference. If you are for improving your road riding and wishing to learn safe technique, feeling part of a 'program' or community and coaching etc then I'd say you'd be better at HD.
However I agree with you fully, coaching and mechanical should be user pays.
I also wouldn't mind if it was 150 but 200 bucks doesn't make it an option for regular fun.
In addition, it really isn't bad having a 125 or 250 road bike at pukey testing, plenty of guys have done it and report of nothing but total success, so what if you are getting past by 300kmh bikes?Hold your line and they will avoid you, they want to avoid you just as much as you want to avoid them don't forget!!! Never seen anyone complaining about being passed by much faster riders and machinery, they just comment on what an awesome spectacle it is.
Also it seems you get a lot more time on track at open days... if you go on Friday there often aren't even any other bikes down there and you get an insane amount of track time. Then again, HD might offer enough time for you. In my case- five or so twenty minute sessions certainly isn't enough for me.
I'm going down tomorrow for 90 bucks with my new bike, can't wait.

just make sure your suspension is setup properly. at taupo it could cost you a set of fairings. at HD it may be a greater cost.

That's something you'll have to take up with HD Track Management.
At Puke Open Days the few staff they have there are First Aid qualified etc, but there's no ambulance. At least, that's how it was when I broke bones there. They put my arm in a sling etc and one of the other riders (a nurse) found me some good drugs in glove box but I had to go to A&E when I got back to Hamilton for full medical attention.

So an open day for bikes at Puke is $90?
What is the cost for a car open day at Puke?
Once again its not about different tracks and their charges or the cost for a open day at Puke vs. a track day at HD.
What I want to know is why I can drive a car around HD for $150 but to ride a bike costs $199
Nick Smiths not on the HD Board is he?

As I said, take it up with HD Track Management. Asking on KB is about as useful as taking a dump in your own helmet.

I got the impression from some of her posts that "Miss D" is part of the setup and was hoping she might be able to shed some light.
Nevermind.

Ride Days/CSS is a customer of HD Track Management.... The open days at HD appear to be run by the Track themselves.

That's right. But HD Management won't run Open Days for bikes. Instead they farm that out to HD Ride Days. I guess the risk for them is too high with bikes.

Yea I am part of the team, don't know everything though. HD Ride Days pay to hire the track for the days. I do believe that if you book more than seven days in advance it is $184 but I haven't checked recently my memory isn't that good lol
Anyone is welcome to come down just to have a look and have a chat to the crew about how it all works. Spectators welcome, just stay behind the fences. As I say I don't have all the answers, Darren's your man.
Next ride day is Saturday 19th Feb
