Well ,being from Murch, as the locals call it I can tell you that its 120 km south of Nelson,plus about another 30 km up a side valley to the proposed track site.. It is in the middle of nowhere & thats why most people like it....(Murch that is)
Our crime problem is the pot growers the :Police:cant catch...:innocent:
I was approached to make a submission against the track, which I refused to do.Most negative submissions were because of the dodgy gravel road which is quite busy with farming activities & the onus was placed on Tasman District Council that if they were to grant consents then they'd have to widen the road.They passed that onto the Pommie fella.
He was a whinging pom. He was also loudmouthed & arrogant. He also said to more than one person that the local farmers were all lazy. You dont endear yourself to the locals with that attitude. You shouldnt also start work without the consents in place. So fuck off back to blighty bro...we dont need that type here.
Theres a much better track in the Lamb valley anyway.

When I left Wellington quite a few years ago Te Marua where having heaps of trouble with the newly moved in neighbors on the hills with noise. I doubt a bike facility anywhere there would go down to well? But I have been away for a fair while.

As I understand it, the site was chosen with some care. It was in a massive natural amphitheatre to contain the noise (ie a valley) and had no close neighbours. Noise was considered one of the most likely things to kill off a project like this... who knew? :lol: There have been several venues suggested in recent times, this was the first one that wasn't immediately knocked on the head by the rabid NIMBYs and greenies.

The plan was to build quite a complex complex :shit: with several enduro loops, mx track, drag strip (the local club uses the Motueka aerodrome and has a fight on their hands to stay there) kart track, and a road circuit.

The location was considered acceptably central - ppl from Nelson travel nearly that far to go to Nelson MC club rides & races. We also travel to Blenheim, Kaikoura, Waiau, Maruia Springs, Reefton, Christchurch, Greymouth... dunno that spectators would travel quite that far. Motorsport ppl in the top of the south will make the effort to get to a good event/venue. Nelson/Christchurch happens a lot. Ruapuna is our closest proper tarmac track, plenty of NSN ppl go there.

Despite this head fellah being a Pomgolian (and not a very good employer!!), it was a consortium of 4-6 ppl mostly locals.
