Dead bird in a shoe box.
But I don't reckon it's a tui. Every time I've seen them sing the've sounded awesomely cool.
One thing for sure is that it aint a blackbird 'cause it aint got no rythym.

No not them either. Having observed some of said species up close I can report that their song usually increases in tempo until it hits a crescendo and then immediately wants to start again. It only becomes a nagging drone after the've been nesting in the same place for more than 4 years.

Well, tell us what it LOOKS like, might help. If it's black, it's a blackbird. If it's got a red breast its a Red Breast. If it's blue it's a bluebird. If it's green it's probably a green cockatoo. See, it's easy.

We had a pissed Tui here one night, it had been into the fermented Tangelos on the ground and it couldn't even walk, just sorta flaped around on it back.

High pitched! Could be a chick (or several of them) screaming for food its hatching time ain't it? Look for a nest close by?
Or some angry mother crowing at a predatory cat?
Just a couple of ideas?

I think its a mature version of the Ormaknacker bird. The one with no legs and when it lands it makes this god awfull ormaknackers ormaknackers.
Continual landings are known to change the bird call to a tweet.

If it's fast and high pitched, and repeats every 30 seconds or so, may be a grey warbler. Tiny birds, about the size of a thumb. Been a few around here the past month or so.

My Father in-law shot a crowing rooster that had been most annoying for weeks with a 12 guage shotty. Was quite chuffed about that, until the next morning "cock a doodle do" again.LOL.

There are two birds (and a few variations within that) by that name in the world, the New Zealand one (Vanellus miles novaehollandiae) kind of sounds like some bastard blowing on a whistle five times in a row. They aren't USUALLY out at night though.
