XP@ did an exceptional job in presenting to the select committee today!!!
Charles Lamb was before him, and he deferred a little to his stats .. but overall made some strong points right accross the legislation and not just the Motorvehicle part!!
Huge Kudos Mate!!!

It was a lot easier than I thought, especially with the Nasty one at my side who stepped in when I faltered... team effort!
I hope they listened and act on at least some of my suggestions.
Do not attempt full pre-funding as NZ'ers cannot afford it. Instead partial pre-funding maintaining the current buffer.
Do not introduce scope for risk based levies.
Maintain the requirement to take in to account previous salary when judging fitness to return to work.
Maintain the cover for suicide and self harm when the mental health system fails a patient.
Allow a claimant to retain they holiday pay then they have to stop work.

An interesting snippet from today was that the majority of bike levies come from petrol.
Never done that math before but it is kinda obvious really...

How do they figure that out?
When you buy petrol there isn't anyone recording what sort of vehicle it is going into.

May a slight exagerration on behalf of the committee but use your brain .. and a calculator ... and then take on the amount of times you fill .... for lots it will not be larger they do not ride daily ... for those who travel long distances it is HUGE!
If your tank takes 15 Litres - you pay 9.34c per litre - $1.40 per fill for one a week $72.85 etc.
But then that still doesn't account for the many vehicles I have.

for me it would be about $200 to $250 a year - and I probably do more k's than most...
Unless a very large % of bikes are unregistered...

I read the PDF and your quick summary, awesome - well done. i hope someone listens!
this is the kind of stuff we need to get in the PAPERS not just in front of the committees.

Me too. Just waiting for details but I need to report at 3:30.
I hope the facility is in the CBD or I'm going to have to figure out how to get there on the bike without ruining my suit!

Wouldn't panic about what you wear .. they do seem to take into account travel etc to the site ... its about what you have to say ... and making the points with evidence to back it up.

Good to know, thanks, as that makes it easier to organise. I'm doing plenty of reading and organising my thoughts per this top thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=114729).
Research is not my strong point so I'm relying on others a lot for facts and figures. But I'm trying to work out how much fuel would need to go up per litre to pay for the whole road fund. I'd love to see it done that way as it is also an encouragement to use fuel more efficiently. If someone has already figured it out, please put me out of my misery!
