Anyone listened to their debut album?
I've just had a preview listen on iTunes and from the 15 second snippet of each song I think it could be ok, but the true test of a song, and especially an album's value is usually made on about the 6th listen. On paper I'm thinking I should like very much being that I liked Nirvana, like the Foos and Queens Of The Stone Age and a massive Zeppelin fan, but you never can tell. They're also touring and coming to NZ, so if the album lasts more than a month in my car I may have to think of going.
So, who's heard it, who's bought it and who has no fucking idea what I'm on about?

Its worth the price of purchase though its not a world-beating album, The dude on vocals isn't able to take the songs up to the next level, He can sing but doesn't seem to bring anything else to it.
They don't try and do anything exciting, All in all its mediocre, very safe, There are a couple of clunkers on the album, I'd give it a 4/10.

It's on my Christmas list too. Love the Foo Fighters so expecting great things. Listened to a good bit of Zep over the years too but RP's whiney voice pisses me off after a while. Achilies (sp?) Last Stand though... Great track.

Talking about music is so much more entertaining than talking about lying politicians and how they are going to arse rape us this time.
Anything else I should be adding to my Xmas list?
I'm really enjoying Midnight Youth at the moment too, some good Kiwi tunes.

You got any Modest Mouse? "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" and "Good News For People Who Like Bad News" are both good.
Have you listened to The Dead Weather's "Horehound"?
What about the album by David Byrne and Brian Eno - "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today"?

I read the write-up in Rolling Stone magazine and had to chuckle at John Paul Jones' comment "I hate all that media hype shit" or words to that effect. If it weren't for media hype (and trickling snippets onto You Tube etc) they'd never sell any fuckin' albums. However, he followed that comment up with "Let the music speaks for itself", which isn't original but it's the way it should be.
Comments here range from excellent to 4/10. I guess we'll just have to listen to it ourselves. (Must say, Chickenfoot needs more airtime.)

Haven't heard any of those, but will have a listen tomorrow, thanks.
Always keen to expand my music horizons, and as much as I enjoy some of the stuff I hear on the airwaves, a lot of it is just crap!

I like Them Crookedness of Vultures, but I reckon that like many albums, it's overengineered. It'd be more betterer iffen it was say, a jam'n'toast session, or a live albumen.

Bearing in mind I am a metalhead I tend to not like anything that isn't a crushing rhythm section being smothered by over-played dueling guitars. So in that context 4/10 maybe considered excellent. Still, it bored me.
If it aint metal, It had better be ZZ Top or George Thorogood.....
Or The Stones, But thats it.

Its only OK, and compared to the sublime work of genius that was their last collaborative effort "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" its pretty average. Having said that the Eno/Byrne collaboration also bought us "More songs about buildings and food" as well.
Oh, ahd Horehound is OARSOMELY GOOD.

I've seen that in the CD stores....why does it not surprise me that you'd be recommending it - mind you, all your other recommendations have been spot on!

I just realised this week what I really don't like about Them Crooked Vultures and some other recent(ish) albums, like "Death Magnetic": it IS the engineering, but not just that it's somewhat over-engineered (coz after all, that is a Mrkn tradition). While too much feedlin and perfecting can make the result sterile if not done with some finesse, it's the trend towards compressing the hell out of music to suit the iTunes and radio crowd that really sucks the life outta it.
Grrrrr!!! and all that....:girlfight:

Bought it, on my first listen in the car.... liking it so far, but I may have to turn the sub down as it seems REALLY basey!
Will give it a go inside on the stereo with the real good speakers tomorrow.

So the new album that I am eagerly awaiting to hit the stores is Slash's new album that he's roped some mates into playing/singing with him on. Heard one song off it (Yep, been thrashing it on Hauraki, The Rock too probably) and I LOVE it! Can't wait to go buy the CD!
