If someone brings the sun we will bring the BBQ.
This will be the third time we have dragged the BBQ out to Puke and we are determined to use it this time!

I can confirm we have Steve Briggs (A KTM sponsored rider) as our guest instructor this time. He will be on board one of KTM's RC8 race bikes. Remember his brains are their for the picking. ;)

Info for those of you who have Auckland City Council and Cycletreads ART vouchers.
Please make sure you have contacted Colleen Thompson at CThompson@paraserv.co.nz or 027 423 1433
and booked you slot.
You cant just turn up on the day and hope there to be spaces. As always this training is (of last week) nearly completely booked out and the last week is a mad scramble for any spaces left.
See you all there.

I have a question Graham. Since ART is about improving ones riding, why do we stop it due to rain ? Obviously one needs to be more cautios and smooth etc, but why not tell people about issues such as surface water then let those with sufficient groves on tyres to get out and practice ? After all we have groves in our tyres for that exact reason, and I personally dont have a problem riding on a soaking track.
Thank you.

Its simply a saftey issue.
Pukekohe has a suface water problem in a few areas, unfortunatly these areas are either where there is limited run off (ford mountain T7) or at a very quick corner (Jennian Homes T1). Deep puddles at Jennian and in the case of T7 a small river of water running accross the track. The session is only stopped if these puddles or the stream of water becomes an issue, usually after a very heavy down poor. Normal wet conditions we would not halt the event.
Experience has shown us that once these have formed it takes avery long time for it to drain away or dry up. Even race events get pulled on Puke when this level of water is present and thats with experienced guys with full wets there.
Your right, there is alot to be learnt riding a bike in wet conditions. Its just a case of ensuring the conditions aren't too wet to become dangerous.

Had been harrased by a certain ART Instructor (or two) to come out for a look. So to keep the peace and them off my back, I came out to observe. From what I saw today, I would highly recommend the AMCC ART days.

Couldn't agree more, what a day! :niceone:
This was my first track day ever (Group 1- your pic is of my group!). What a blast. The faster groups were flying and truth be told, freaked me out a little to begin with. All good later on though.
I wasn't expecting such slick event, AMCC sure know what they're doing. Instructors were bloody awesome and the other riders in my group were really cool too.

It was good fun.
Although I can recommend not getting on the grass on the back straight at 250KPH.
Still can't believe I managed to do that. Next time I won't try and go round the outside thats for sure.
By all accounts the bike did a pretty impressive somersault when it enterd the gravel.
Must have still been doing around 90KPH
Evidently the Pukekohe sand trap is different to the ones you see on TV when the Superbikes go off the track and manage to stay upright. Or perhaps my offroad technique needs work :)
Still - the Germans seem to build a sold machine. Washed of the dirt and have a couple of paint scratches, a blown headlight bulb and a broken head protector - Got off damn lightly I'd say.

Well what an awesome day!! A whole day!! With full groups.
The standard of riding was fantastic, the improvements obvious and rewarding.
We had a large group of dedicated instructors some of whom were trying out new technology to aid in the instruction.
We had Star Insurance ‘come out’ stating they have been ‘blind’ testing us at previous events and have declared us ‘Class One’ meaning they will insure you without increased premiums and even discount you premiums after attending our courses.
We saw a varied assortment of bikes from 250 scorpions to carbon fibre exotic Ducati 1098’s. We even had a grass tracking BMW!
Group 4 had Steve Briggs on an immaculately prepared RC8R KTM race bike on hand to share his knowledge; Paul Pavletich had the road version.
Cycle Treads (Northern Accessories) informed us of new tyre technology coming out from Michelin soon in the form of the new Michelin Pilot Power Pure, a dual compound tyre suitable for road or track much lighter than the current Michelin 2CT favoured by the current supersport and superbike riders.
Prizes were awarded for best presented bike, most improved rider & best instructor. A goodie bag was also presented to a rider felt by our sponsor to have impressed in his attitude throughout the day.
Video tracking proved to be a great teaching aid for both instructor and participant and often a large group could be seen around the monitor.
All in all an awesome day had by all, cant wait to do it all again in March, Check the web site in a couple of days for the entry form.

Awesome day. I don't know how AMCC manage to get so many experienced instructors out there with us. Every session I had, I managed at least a few laps with one of them in our group (2). Invaluable experience for me getting to follow these guys round to find the lines, practice smooth transitions and braking.
Following each session instructors would give some 1on1 time discussing the session, I also had the guys working on and teaching me about set up of suspension which made soooooo much difference to the feel of the bike.
The video footage and the bike to bike coms are an excellent idea and these will hopefully continue / develop in future sessions.
Of all the track days I have had, AMCC definitley run the best for me - superbly organised, well run, great tuition and focused more on improving my riding than just blatently hooning round.
Had such a hoot today and learnt heaps. Win-win!!!!!!
Roll on march...............

A supreme day by all accounts. Thank you all.
Session 1 - Tucked in behind Brian and follow him for 2-3 laps which really reinforced all the theory that we covered in the track walk and briefing. Managed to put in a few laps and felt how the whole picture kinda clicked together. By the time session one was over I felt quite confident in the bike, the tyres, and taught, yep today things work :D
Session 2 - Managed to stay mid field at the start which gave me the chance to ride on a clear track front and back, and happily do my own thing. Had a few instructors zip past on the straights and the odd sports bike, but don't count this as traffic as you guys were cone within the next few sectors. Had awesome fun on this session too. Alistair was kind enough to jump in front a few times and show me some stuff that I can do smoother. :woohoo:
Session 3 - In the brake previous to session 3 I was having a chat to Brian regarding ground clearance loss and the roper way to lean off the bike to unload the suspension and hence give me more ground clearance. It was time to put this in to practice. It did work and improved the ground clearance, but due to old habit I found myself returning to the older style of which the right pegs were kindly reminding: "thats not what you were told"....Overall happy with that session, but still need to work on that "lean forward and side wise rather than just side wise" in order to unload the suspension. Believe will get there with practice. :ride:
Session 4 - Was some sensational fun. :D I believe that all riders had increased their skill levels and from where I was sitting everyone seemed to be riding at a pretty nice flowing pace. Was not held up by anyone, nice clean lines. Some more cautious than others but it was great to see everyone concentrating on our adrenaline filled hobby and taking most out of it, while having in mind the safety aspect in mind. :ride:
Would like to say Thank You to all my fellow riders in Group 2 who rode predictably and never endangered me on the track, making for a fully trouble free day.
I would like to say a Grateful THANK YOU to AMCC for running such a superb event, and a BIG THANK YOU too to Greg, Alastair, Brian, and Graham for their input, constructive criticism and advice they gave me trough the day, and helping me enjoy myself 100%. And last but not least Angela, Gremlin and the rest of the marshals who looked after us out there. You guys rock ! :woohoo:
Hoping to see you all again on the next one in March.
Thank You.
P.s I have some footage of group 2 session 2 and session 3 which I will be uploading on youtube probably tonight or tomorrow and will post up. :niceone:

What a day. Talking with instructors at the end of the day we were all buzzed. Instructors in Group 1 & 2 especially couldn't believe how much improvement virtually everyone had made with some of the improvements being quite incredible and huge discussion taking place around who to nominate for most improved riders.
The smiles on the instructors faces and the enthusisasm was very very obvious, it is so obvious to see how much of a buzz they get watching you guys grow bigger smiles and much bigger capabilities.
The feedback from you and your compliments are fantastic, AMCC, Northern accesories and the guys set out to provide you with safe, well run, rider training with a smile. It is soooo satisfiying to get the feedback you guys think we are providing.
Graham was just beaming at the end of the day. Thanks guys.
See you at the next one.

My second time out on a track, and things are definitely coming together- like those two lefthanders before the hill, theyve merged into one lovely big sweeper now!! Kind of obvious to all the experienced types out there, but a big buzz for a newby like me. My VFR 800 just gets better every day ,and got me home safe to Paihia last night, tired but still buzzing.
Huge thanks to all you good folks from AMCC, including all the blurry people with flags etc. Instructors all great to talk to, but bloody annoyingly quick on supertankers! Thanks again,Matt.

A further clarification on the Star Insurance classification. I jumped the gun slightly regarding the level one status.
This from Mark Mallard (National Sales Manager Star Insurance) “On the day we lowered you to a level 2 which is a 1500 excess or 7.5% of the sum insured which ever is Higher, you were a level 3 and we must only move 1 level at a time, we will have a random tester at the next event you do with the view of lowering you to a level 1 track day, $1000 excess for bikes upto $30,000 sum insured with 7.5% of sum insured after our blind tester confirms that you follow the rules that we require. We will not cover your group 4 riders at all. “
I would advise partisipants to see Colleen in the Jennion Homes building at the end of each event to obtain a certificate of completion as proof of attending our course to show to Star Insurance to gain the benefits available. We look forward to working with Mark & Star Insurance in the future. We would also welcome any blind testing from any insurance provider at any of our events.
The March 6th event has already started having slots filled. I anticipate Group 2 to fill very quickly as always. Group 4 is likly to fill up quickly with racers testing prior to the 4th round of the AMCC protecta series being held the next day.
As always the early bird gets the slot so you know what to do. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/117234-AMCC-ART-Day-Pukekohe-6th-March

I am with Star, they said there is no extra premium....my excess goes up to $1500 on that day though (plus my bike has to be rego'd and WoF'd, and noone else is allowed on my bike).
So I think I'll have a go at group one. :Punk:
Hope some other cruiser riders come along to keep me company! (note: I was joking in my last post, I'm not out to race anyone :innocent:)
