OK Ive been fiddleing around with the cam timimg but cant work out how it goes ,it shud theoretically work if it is sumwhere near?there are the 3 marks on the flywheel and a "o" on the cam gear .where shud these be in relation to each other?and does it matter if i line it on on the wrong stroke so that it sparks at the wrong time -or can i just flipp the little spinny cdi thing over coz its only got magnets on one side.any help appreciated

Would advice not flipping anything over and it is VERY important that you get this absolutly spot on or you will FUK your motor!!!!!!
Best thing to do is to make notes before you pull it apart but i'm guess your well past that point.
See if you can find a manual or even just some pages copied out of one regarding reassembling the top end of your motor.
Once back together turn your motor over by hand, slowly and listen for any strange noises (ie you piston hitting your valves)

Uh, with respect, I'd really really suggest getting that manual.
There is no "few teeth" with valve timing. It has to be exactly right. And not hitting when turning it over at maybe 50 rpm does not mean not hitting at 10000 rpm

I dunno what a CT125 is,apart from being 125cc - but on the flywheel should be an F mark and a T mark, line up the T mark with whatever small arrow on the cover....the O on the camshaft sprocket should line up with a mark on the head, usualy 12 o'clock,or 3 or 9 o'clock, and we may as well say 6 o'clock for good measure. The cam should be on the back of both lobes, meaning there will be no weight on it and you should be able to turn it a little each way.If it's a Honda the CDI rotor (sounds like what you are saying) is located by a very small pin,do NOT loose the pin,and make sure the rotor locates on it.(fingers crossed....)
where is the mark for the flywheel to line up with?there is no apparent mark except for the casting line.??
Dunno,I can't quite make it out from here - put a small screwdriver carefully down the plug hole and gently turn the motor over with a socket and T bar on the flywheel nut...you should feel the piston come up and go down again, just keep it somewhere around there, that's close to TDC...now look around, that ''T'' mark should be close to something.Does it have an inspection cover over the left sidecase? if so it could be under that,or pull the side case and look around.Later XRs have a bung 'ole in the left case to line up the flywheel.
Dunno,I can't quite make it out from here - ..
Eye's starting to go on you are they mate? Sad isn't it when the old folk start to lose their faculties. I can make it out perfectly from here - see it's just there - see, right there - no no further over - no you're looking in the wrong place - sheesh don't know how you can't see that.
Guess you may need to start training that cat of yours as a Seeing Eye Cat :devil2:
