Seems our PM's golden smile has not delivered the goods in Copenhagen.

They can take their carbon emissions shit and stick it up their ass, he should be improving the state of new zealand, not worrying about what some uppidy shits want him to do for them when half their gasses burn a hole in the ozone right above NZ, anyway... Nevermind the entire US or european countries making a"carbon footprint" a thousand times larger than NZ...
"Our emission targets are low and that's not supported by the New Zealand public". -What makes this fuckin dork think she can speak for the New Zealand public?
"John Key should listen to the people of New Zealand and support a really high emission target of at least 40 per cent, which is what the science recommends he does." The people of New Zealand are all scientists? Surely that would be the only way their opinions were valid in a debate based on science? No?
"More than 180,000 New Zealanders have signed on to Greenpeace's "Sign On" campaign calling for a 40 per cent cut in emissions, relative to 1990 levels. " - Oh, when georgina said the new zealand public, one would think she meant the majority, not a small fraction of the population? Someone needs to point out that they can cry all they want about making these huge increases, with some scientific backing, but they aren't economists, how can they judge what is achievable change?

"More than 180,000 New Zealanders have signed on to Greenpeace's "Sign On" campaign calling for a 40 per cent cut in emissions, relative to 1990 levels. " -

Have you seen these clowns getting signatures on the streets? They're just about militant. I suspect a number of those have signed just to get away from them.

And it's pretty easy to sign a bit of paper and do nothing anyway.

How many of those 180,000 are prepared to give up their lifestyles, landrovers and big screen TVs (or pay through the nose to keep them)? Considerably less than 10% of that, I would suspect.

I don't care that he's gone to Copenhagen - I just hope he doesn't fucking sign anything when he's there.

I wonder how many of those that signed on for a 40% reduction would be prepared to take a 40% pay cut to fund it.

Hell, if they all donated 40% of their current income to the cause, and gave it to business to finance new capital plans required to reduce emmissions then they would be really helping.

After experiencing the "100% pure" ad campaign abroad I was quite disgusted when I came to New Zealand about how many solid fuel fires there are and how many large engined cars there are. New Zealand is totally at odds with Europe and Japan in terms of pollution per capita - the only reason we get away with it is coz there's so few of us.

5 Years after moving here I installed a wood burner and bought a Falcon....if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em.:2thumbsup:

It's all a fucken joke. Key gets the fossil award. I hate to imagine the award the delgates of the U.S, China, Russia, England and other huge polluters received!!?

Oh right, Key was honest, the other diplomats talked the right shit knowing they wo'nt really be taking any action, full knowing that they are the problem.

I'm sure the carbon footprint of the whole summit wo'nt be gargantuan.......

Maybe the organiser should receive a polluter of the year award?

I can't take any of it seriously. I've been to the U.S of A, and seriously, just go out and enjoy yourself, don't recycle, or worry about your footprint, we are but a speck in comparison of what the other countries are up to.

Get the yanks into a reasonable sized SUV, rather than personal trucks for starters, then i'll listen. (forget about actual "green" cars)

Not only has Key won the fossil award, under his leadership New Zealand is now accused of cheating. OK so it's a bunch of greenies. Still makes no difference, now we are called cheats. Good one John. You might be 'relaxed' about this but for myself, our honest is pretty important.

OK so it's not going to break the bank but it does point to the problem of having a PM who is our Tourist Minister and pushng the NZ clean and green image. Not a good look............to paraphase, Bill rort the taxpayer English.

Plus, I would have thought that if people were that worried about carbon footprints, they wouldn't generally fly half-way round the world for a "green" holiday.

They'd go eco-camping and eat mud and some such.

*sigh* hate to point out the blatantly obvious but they come here to see what we tout as clean and green PRISTINE ENVIRONMENT.
difficult to sell that if we get blasted every other week in their media as being environmental polluters.

Tourism is a very competitive market, we are in competition with a bunch of other places around the world for a very lucrative market. They will not hesitate to put the boot into us.
So for the cost of a few hundred million buck you'd happily cost us a 20BILLION a year industry?
Not to mention the damage to our agricultural sector's markets......
well fuck me your a financial genius ain't ya. :first:

Be it a scientific hoax or not I'd rather be on the side that will see us stung the least, and for what we do to earn a crust as a country that entails New Zealand being seen as squeaky clean on the environment front.

And I don't think people buy the food they see at their supermarket because it is from NZ, as it is...

NZ is still a clean and prestine environment, and that isn't going to change so long as the bulk of our (tiny) 4+ million people are stuck in the suburbs and cities, not out in the wilderness that the tourists love, so any change to tourism is the fault of these foreign greenies bad mouthing NZ for not changing as much as they'd like, despite the fact that if we don't lower 40% we'd still be putting less carbon out than them. Stupid, I think.

Maybe if it is going to cost NZ tens of millions someone should spend a bit of cash on some mercenaries to shut them up:Pokey:

SkyryderMeh, any damage to NZs already shitty economic state is the fault of these scam artists at copenhagen, not some magic change that is the result of a few fossil fuels being burnt. Pollution of rivers isn't related, and it's always been going on, a bit like climate change. I supose the last time the climate warmed up it was the result of too many methane farting mammoths... Some people need to get a fucken life. Start worrying about how you are going to survive the climate change and then once you have that sussed start worrying about lessening your impact on the climate. We're fucked if we do, fucked if we don't - just that by jumping on the band wagon some people get rich while everyone else gets poor.
