Gpx 750 r oil leak

Hi guys im new here and i am a kiwi in Brisbane - I have a Kawasaki 1988 GPX750R real tidy ole girl but just got back from a ride and shes starting to leak oil from the front sprocket area by the looks of it ..it was shock horror i tell ya :rolleyes:...so i have trying to find out if there is a oil seal in behind the sprocket and how hard to do as i do all my own fixing/maintenence etc ... my last bike was an limited edition 93 FJ1200 (dam nice bikes) anyway if someone could help me id be wrapped ...and here im thinking search the web in and out and end up back in good ole NZ for answers :niceone:

Yeah there's a seal in there.

Yes there will be an oil seal behind the sprocket. Depending on your set up the gear shifter shaft is close by too and will have a oil seal so replace this while you are there, and any related gaskets too.

Try Bikebandit.com and pop in your year and model and it will show diagrams. It's a US site so it may be called a Ninja or not be there if they did not receive that model.

Hi TWR & Allan and thanks for all your help that will the seal for sure .. :niceone: I have stripped it down only one more question is the Nut on the front sprocket a left hand thread or right - im guessing its left ? even the rattle gun wont undo -mind you think the compressor is bout to bloody die --:rolleyes:just in time for the fat bugger in a red suite he might bring me a newy :niceone:

There's a indent on the casing that you put a 10mm rod into (sits at about the 4pm looking at the sprocket, inline with the sprocket teeth) that'll hold the sprocket firm as you're giving the beeries with the rattle gun. The sprockets almost fuse in place sometimes so heat can help....not the best if you're trying to save the seal but seeing it's leaking it isn't going to get any worse. Once you've heated the nut up give it a good blast with CRC (there'll be a lot of smoke but it'll smell good) that'll soak in then give it a blast with the gun.

Once at the seal, drill a small hole into the face of it so you can get a hook into it the gently pry it out, don't dig it out by going around the outer edge & the casing.

It will be a right hand thread.

You'll get more turning power out of the rattle gun if you use a single hex impact socket.

well guys got the sprocket off with WD40 and the mrs sitting on the bike not to sure which had the best result there :second:the mrs was talking may have a bearing on it :niceone: any way the seal i thought isnt leaking -what i have found where the seal around the rod where the clutch slave goes onto is the one in question -beacuse the rod is very loose fitting through the seal and if i move slightly to one side out comes oil ! while its hot and running down the inner casing to give the impression of the seal i first thought - so do u reckon i can do that in place or remove the back plate only a small seal --now im thinking ill get the mrs to talk to it while i do it :first:
