Just heard it briefly on the news. They didn't give any details other that a Motorcyclist fatality has closed a road until about midnight they estimate.

Yeah saw it mentioned on Nightline before (went out for a ride just after I saw it). Too many of us are not beating the odds unfortunately.

thats realy sad :crybaby: , lots of that going on lately. Did i mention my partner nags me all the time about the bike being unsafe... but deep down i know she wants a ride.
In any case all these accidents that are happening lately sure as hell dun give me as a learner much confidence.

Dont give you confidence? Try convincing parents to let you get one :msn-wink:
Mum doesnt mind since i went for the SR250, but she wouldnt of been happy if i get anything bigger for first bike, but then again its their job as parents to worry i guess ! Cant blame em, my reply was its more dangerous for a 17yr old to be in a turbo or whatever skyline thing.
But ya bikes > cars, just gotta be careful, depending on my career choice and shit like that i doubt ill every buy a car or regulary drive one until i got little uns, which i hope is at least 8 years away :D :D :D
Be careful tho guys! :Punk:

Its interesting about the fatalities tho... Well, not like that. What I mean is that I haven't read about a single fatality involving a biker who was a member of KB...
If there were some killed and they were members of KB, then I'll take a wild stab and say it was not their fault...
KB is good for us :niceone:

If I have a fatal, and anyone says that about me, I'm sending kickaha around to give them a kickaha in the arse-aha.
Every accident I've had has been my fault, one way or another. I'm only here so far because I figured out what I did wrong in the previous ones.

I would disagree with you. I certainly wouldn't bleat on about somebody elses fault, but if it was validated then I would.
I have had one accident on my bicycle (completely my fault, completely) and many near-misses. Very few would have been my fault, if the other party had been observing the road code...
I could have certainly been more careful, but then if you wanted to be ultra-careful, you would live by yourself, no electricity, no house (it may fall down) etc.
But you could do clever things like making sure your brakes actually worked (because they were soaked from rain) before speeding down roads...

So everything is everyone else's fault then?
I'm suggesting that YOU take responsibility for what YOU contribute to every accident you've had.
And until you've messed yourself up the same way I have, I'd keep my mouth shut about bicycle accidents. If you don't look at how YOU could have avoided an accident, even if everyone else around you is blaming the other party, you will continue to have accidents.

Hmmm, was working yesterday, COULD have earned Helen & mates $1,300 - $1,700 IF I'd ticketed the speeding bikes.
Close-knit packs doing some good? speeds on a windy/gusty day on hilly, up-and-down roads going to the Beaumont rally, madnes in some places.
Eventually pulled a couple over, gave 'em a warning and asked them to pass the word around at the rally to get everybody to slow down a bit before somebody got hurt or it cost them money.
And we wonder why they crash??

You cannot completely blame yourself as a lot of accidents happen because of car drivers not being able to see the bikes or the car drivers not looking in their mirrors before turning or changing lanes....driver awareness of the road is lacking and bikes take a beating cuz of this...this said and done i have noticed a few people accelerating a bit too fast on heavy traffic roads which just increases the chance of someone not being able to see you.....so be careful KB'ers..........

Are you on duty next Sunday for the start of the Southern Cross? I expect most will be passing through your area around 2:00 - 2:30 pm.

Heard about this one from the guy who saw it happen (following the bike)... Says it was an older guy in a Maxima pulled out in front the biker... says he didn't see him... but guy following bike says the biker had a very very dim headlight as the biker had just passed him, so with lights of the car behind the bike, it may have been difficult to see. He died pretty much instantly, not pretty. Police asked if he was speeding... he said no as it doesn't really matter now... any RIP
Yeah ... heard the same thing from rellies who were coming up for a wedding and were on the scene a couple of minutes after it happened. Apparantly the bike was in a passing lane and the car pulled from the left hand lane into the passing lane ....

Ok, thats what I meant. From reading your post, I thought you were getting at the point that whatever the accident, the rider is partly at fault, which is not true.
And until you've messed yourself up the same way I have, I'd keep my mouth shut about bicycle accidents.
Bicycles are not as fast as motorbikes, yes, but they wear less gear, and I guess you have never passed 80 on a bicycle. I also hope you don't under-estimate the speed of bicycles and pull out in front of them in roundabouts. I hit the back off a car, and messed my face up pretty good. I didn't have nice clothing etc, just a helmet. And that doesn't help your face.
If you don't look at how YOU could have avoided an accident, even if everyone else around you is blaming the other party, you will continue to have accidents.
If you really tried, you could avoid just about anything. Just ride like a nana :D But honestly, where is the fun in that?? Yes, you should definitely try to learn from mistakes. That's what makes you wise...
