View Full Version : CANCELLED - Due to weather - Wellington Action - 19 December - Oriental Parade
Nasty

This has already gone out in email!!! Should be fun - thanks Bald Eagle for organising!
Where: Oriental Bay
When: Saturday December 19
Time: 8:00am onwards
Fancy a coffee and a bite to eat, while keeping this ACC issue in the public face? Join us for coffee and breakfast at Oriental Parade. Get in early and find yourself a carpark. Yes folks a carpark. Make sure you have change for the parking fees if any. One bike per park please. Then take a leisurely stroll to the nearest cafe and get a coffee and something to eat. Take your time, relax, enjoy your brunch.
Please find a park on the street front first. We will be assembling around the fountain to make a bit of noise, this will kick off at 8:30am. After the rebel rousing we will then be free to go and enjoy our brunch.
If we do it right, there wont be any parking for cars available, highlighting the fact that if these bastards tax us off the roads, we will be forced to "drive" a car, and there will be no parking available anywhere. We also will be supporting the local businesses so they are not disadvantaged because of this protest action.
At all times this will be a peaceful gathering, we are not out to upset anyone, we just want to make a point. Please ensure you do support the businesses after we have made our point. Talk to people about why we are so angry.
Bring your noise makers, this one is going to be LOUD!
Hand out leaflets to the general public letting them know we are fighting this fight for all of us, dont forget WHOS NEXT?
A few rousing rounds of our battle cry from time to time would not go amiss either.

I'm fairly sure the council can, and will, have motorcycles removed from carparks even if you mange to attach a parking coupon to your machine. Might be a better idea for those of us with a four wheeler to take that, park it, and festoon it with propaganda illustrating the point we wish to make - ie this park would be free for a cage driver had the Govt not taxed my bike off the road.
Great idea, and I'm in, but maybe we need to start demonstrating just what WILL happen when our bikes are taxed from underneath us.

We will not park in pay and display parks ... we are not allowed to. For those who wish to bring a car - try and make sure it is appropriately adorned.
They can not remove bikes without a stink . .and I am sure that we can create an appropriate one should it be required.

Just spoke to Council - saturday pay and display are free (this does not mean that bikes can use them) ... but time restrictions apply ... pay and display is before the pool .. after the pool is fair game.

here is the bylaw for what nasty is saying
traffic bylaw
subsection
6.5 No person shall park a motorcycle in any parking meter area controlled by a multiple parking meter, other than in any part specifically set aside for motorcycles.
here is the definition of Multiple Parking Meter
Multiple Parking Meter means a parking meter which functions in respect of more than one parking space and includes pay and display parking meters.

Although you can park for free on a saturday they are still considered metered parks for ticketing purposes.

... on that note we could get our dogs to park our bikes that would be technically aloud as it says 'NO PERSON SHALL PARK A MOTORBIKE'

i think they would be more likly to tow them as they are within the law to do so.

Megaphone sourced
1st official piece of Wellington BRONZ infrastructure purchsed at very sharp price (40% disc)
Treasurer and the VP agreed, worthy cause as we can re-deploy it for training courses, charity events....and ACC protests (or any other supported civil event)
Yep.... a 43w Megaphone
:niceone:
I just asked a mate who (works with the council ;) ) regarding Oriental Parks
ALL Time Zoned parks are public and not bound by the pay and display meter rules
So from his recall of the layout, just past the pool to the end of the parking area's is bike friendly carparks, and no dedicated bike zone is there which makes us perfectly eligible Saturday users, as long as we obey the TIME limits
Kari knows who I speak of methinks

I didn't know that you can't park a bike in a pay n display?? although common sense tells me I wouldn't as I can't gauruntee the ticket will stay on the bike etc.
Anyway my point is - is that rule clearly displayed on a pay n display machine?? can't say I have seen it anywhere. And if you didn't know on the weekend when you don't have to have a ticket how would you know you couldnt park there??
(unless you read this thread of course!!)

Does anyone know how long you can park in one of these parks?
For instance, if it's say 2 hours, it might be good to know so a second wave could come in around 10 to replace the bikes/bikers who are full up on coffee.

so whats the point then?... sorry not getting at you K,
but hey, if we park in town that is metered, pay for the ticket..
attach the ticket to the bike
how can they say that is not allowed???
what is the difference to the other places??????? as long as you have the ticket on the bike..??????

The pay and display all at the ned we aint gonna be gathering in anyway. moot issue
The end we intended to target, if I recall the geography, is all time zones, 30-60 and some 120's (I think anyway)

You can not park down town unless in designated parks. It is really simple ... you can't park as it is against the cities by laws. But in wellington Oriental Parade is quite often a saturday breakfast place - so that is why we are going there.
BTW this was not my idea ... I just put the thread up .. I agree with it though. You want to break the by-laws personally I don't care - I won't the WCC is my employers.

Cyclone warnings, rain and utter shit expected for next 48 hours folks
I say we re-schedule right now, get the word out and re-think for Sunday AM kicking off around 9ish

Bottom line, if weather as bad as weather man says it will be we wont have anyone there to preach to
